1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Domuya Secret Project Nightmare Discussion

Feb 14, 2010

    1. Oh, wow, he looks GORGEOUS -- I love the mane! :D

    2. Very pretty. Wanted to do that too but emmigrating came in between. And I have my own horse now but he doesn't have a long black tail.

    3. OldMagician, you have done a magnificent job of the mane! This was how I imagined the horse could be. Also, your work with the eyes, in other posts, is so helpful in resolving that design problem. In fact, you seem to be the Nightmare expert online!

I purchased a Nightmare last year when it first came out, just as I was beginning to learn about abjds, before I had any dolls in hand. By the time the horse was finally delivered, my interests had turned away from the project where I thought to use the horse, into other bjd areas. So, when the extremely heavy package was delivered, I stored it away without opening it, since I had no space to tinker with such a large doll if it was not the center of interest for a project.

It remains unopened, but I still have hopes of using it at a later date, when I have more time, and more space. From the posts I have just been reading, when I do open it, there will probably be some damage, although my box came through in excellent condition. Since my main interest was the horse itself, and the chainmail, and the saddle, but not the rest of the armor, perhaps I will not find any damage that will matter so much to me.

I just wanted to thank you for all the clarification you have posted. Now that Domuya seems to have disappeared, your work shows the most information that I have seen. I will hopefully be able to make a mane when the time comes, or possibly find someone to make one for me. Could I ask, how have you attached the mane to the horse? The neck appears to be very smooth and gives no purchase.

Thank you for all your excellent photos, and also for the great pictures of your beautiful medieval dolls!

    4. Thank you all.
The mane is set with Velcro, the hair waft sewn onto the soft part of it, and the "hook" part glued (using flexible glue that can be removed easily if necessary) to neck (looks like stubble when the mane is not on). I divided it in two parts to allow for movement of the neck and possibility to adjust it. Should add a third part to the head later so the foremost part is better fixed.

For those who plan to restring this doll, be careful!
The stringing, and joint mechanism is fascinating, but slightly complicated to get right, so make note of where all strings and hoops goes before loosening any string. When I have more time I will try to post a stringing schedule.

It really is a pity that Dumuya have disappeared, and I still hope that the artists behind the Domuya dolls will appear somewhere again with new projects.

    5. OldMagician, thank you for the details about your mane design! This is one time that Velcro is the best solution, the flexibility combined with strength being paramount in importance.

I think that this thread will remain very important for all those who have Nightmares, and we are all grateful to you for your research and ingenuity. Even more so, for your willingness to share what you have learned.

    6. That is one beautiful horse there :D
And yes you did a wonderful job on that mane, he looks like a real horse now :)

I would love to see more pictures of Him :fangirl:

    7. Wow! How did I ever miss this?!

    8. Reviving this thread with a picture of my boy. He has not yet found a worthy rider.

    9. Wonderful to see a Nightmare again.
Still have the same problem of having mine on display, although he spent a year in a museum exhibition about Asiatic dolls, so he has been seen.
Arekushia: there are hooks on the head plate behind his ears where you can connect the neck armour, so that back head is covered as well. He looks to be in fine excellent otherwise.

    10. Thank you for pointing that out! I had little to go off of so I was referencing Domuya's old photo of it, but it was tiny!
