1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Don't trust a doll over 30?

Apr 11, 2009

?
  1. If it fit the character and was a good sculpt, sure!

  2. No way- I like the fact that my dolls won't age.

    1. As with many threads on aesthetics, I'd love to see more of a variety of body types, ages, ect.

However...in particular, I would love a doll somewhere in the range of age/appearance of Leslie Nielsen (especially when he plays Frank Drebin). Even without a bunch of make up on, he's looking good for 84 years.

    2. I need a 55-year-or-so looking Asian male doll to portray Zetto's dad Noboru. And Zetto's elder brother "Junior" is in his 30s. Zetto's actually 27, and Biff did a modification of his faceup to give him a couple of character lines under his eyes. I might ask her to soften them a little, but this actually makes him look his age. Plus when you consider the storyline he's in, he earned those lines recently...

No, they don't have their wigs on. Actually the wigs will be changing soon.

    3. Has anyone seen this? There *are* artists with cool older sculpts. And in any case, there's always minimees, right? XD

    4. so far i dont have any characters over 30 so... no.
but i dont think i'd like to have a girl that is ''old'' but for a boy i wouldnt mind (there are some freaking hot 40-50 years old man out there >:3 )

    5. Oh wow...very, very cool looking. Yeah, that could be Yamamoto Noboru, right there. Give him a short salt-and-pepper wig, and that would work.

    6. Uh...I've never seen any 30 year olds look "old" personally. People in their 50's however start to show real signs of distinguished age. I have yet to see a doll with these features that looked like something I would want though however I dont buy a doll because it looks young.

    7. As a person approaching 30, I find the broad generalization of 30 = old age offensive. I know it's been said previously, but people do not always look their age. Also, 50 years old is usually when the aging process becomes most noticeable in humans -- unless a person has gone out of their way to be unhealthy OR they have genetic predisposition towards early aging.

More OT, I think older looking molds are quite attractive in their own right, just as the round-cheeked sweetness of the younger molds are adorable. If you're buying a doll because it "looks young" you may want to step back and reconsider spending 200-500 dollars on "eternal youth". (By "you", I don't mean specifically the OP, but rather any person considering a doll based on that principle.)

    8. I'd love to see older looking dolls :D Iplehouse's EIDs were the most mature looking dolls I've seen so far looking as old as 30-38, but if some modding of some slight wrinkles around the eyes etc. and they'll look well into 40-50 Right now I don't have a character that fits that look, though that could change someday :3

    9. This topic has me thinking more and more about the Dr. House head i just purchased. While in the process of sculpting the head most everyone wanted Hugh's forehead wrinkles taken off the sculpt. For me as a artist, I felt the wrinkles made him the age and man he was portraying. The final sculpt does not have the wrinkles and now I hope the face-up artist can bring him into the proper age range a Doctor House is in the show. I still love the head and will use him, but I wish people weren't so turned off by "getting older".

    10. Wow. This reminds me of my time as a professional caricature/portrait artist. People would ask me to "fix" their face in a picture and omit anything they felt was a "flaw". My answer? "If it's gonna be part of your face for longer than three months, it IS part of your face right now, and that's what I get paid to show you. I'm not gonna lie to you and deny you your laugh lines and battle scars. You earned those by living a real life. Without them you would not look like You."

One more reason behind my preference for realistic style sculpts, I guess.

    11. I'd be curious to see what people would do with dolls meant to be "much older",
but I prefer my dolls younger, so I don't think I'd ever get one myself if they were made.

    12. It's an interesting thought, and some older dolls may look cool, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't buy one. Not going to say 'never' though...

    13. I think a lot of the Minimees look older, maybe because they look realistic. I'm not really a fan of the MNMs, though, so I don't know how I would feel about getting a BJD that looks older... Then again, I have a lack of older-looking characters as well so there isn't anyone I'd need a sculpt for. I'd be for BJDs that look older, because I like the idea of having a wide variety of choices available, but I don't see myself buying one.

    14. It might not be one I'd think to buy right away, but if it was a pretty cool looking one and fit a character, sure I'd buy one that looks older.

    15. there is actually a company who made a doll that has an old mans face, but underneath it is the face of a young man. it may be a mask but it looked like it was meant to appear like the mans face changed.

i think i would buy an older looking doll if it fit the oc.

    16. Well..I don't think I would buy a granny doll! xP But if they werent too old I would definitely consider it ^^

    17. Of course I would. Besides, if and when I'll get an Iplehouse EID it will definitely be an adult and not some teenager so of course it will be 30 or more. I mean, nowadays 30 year old is barely adult and 20 -something-people are still pretty much irresponsible kids. Most of my fashion doll characters are 40-50, so 30 isn't old! ;)

    18. I have seen a couple of faces that are for sure older looking but with the best face up I have ever seen on them that made me think that doll yes! But as for older looking, not really my cup of tea, I like them ageless, enough stuff around me gets old, including me, I like my dolls to be young.

    19. I don't have any dolls over 30 year olds since I prefer my dolls younger right now. The Idelian Soom line does remind me of older men though as well as Iplehouse's bulkier boys.

    20. 30 can be ageless too? They just got immortality at different age. To me having just child dolls would be really boring. ;)
