Don't trust a doll over 30?

  1. If it fit the character and was a good sculpt, sure!

  2. No way- I like the fact that my dolls won't age.

    1. Yay, I just got a realistic head sculpt I might be making into an AWESOME older man!
Several of my dearest and most beloved characters are over forty or look as if they are. They have age and experience making them strong and smarter.

    2. I would certainly find a more mature looking doll interesting and possibly one I would own. I disagree about the age though. I've met people in their twenties that look a good deal older than they are and vice versa for those who are 30+. I like the idea of adding my own wrinkles, scars, spots and the like and not having it sculpted on.

    3. Not crazy about them really. I'm in the hobby mainly because of the beauty of the dolls; not that older-looking dolls couldn't be beautiful, but it wouldn't feel the same to me. Then again, I'm quite touchy on the doll subject, and I like my dolls to look stylized because incredibly realistic dolls tend to, well, creep me out. So no, I wouldn't ever buy one, but I can understand why people would want them. :3

    4. I would love some older dolls, even into their 70s of both genders. The problem is even if you get an older head, I've never seen a doll body that looks anything older then 30. Minimee heads could easier be older then the norm, but then it'll be out of place on a young, virile body.

    5. Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but Souldoll put out a Tarot style doll that has a pretty face and an older face.

    6. If the sculpt looked really awesome, I'd buy an older looking BJD... if it's affordable. With my luck, they'd be really expesnsive because they required a truly skilled artist to make the sculpt look just right.

    7. I have a lot of characters whom I would love to shell into dolls, but they're all in their early thirties, and I just can't find the right sculpts, or even one that could be modded to look like them. It's rather depressing sometimes (and it's only made worse by the fact that I don't really like the size of SDs, so I would like to keep my collection to minis).

    8. Love the older face on that Souldoll. Wish there were more sculpts like that.

    9. I would love to but a doll that was older looking in her 30s or above.
I just have never seen one and I don't know if you could ever capture that look from a face up alone.

    10. Unfortunately the fantastic Souldoll example posted isn't an actually sculpt, it's just a mask :( that goes over the young pretty face. It's really too bad because to have an "older" looking male doll would have been really quite unique. I would love to make a doll of my mother someday, but she is in her 50's and I don't think she'd appreciate a doll made to look like her resembling a 20-something.

And it's definitely true that the more mature sculpts (like Soom, Iplehouse, etc) tend to be on incredibly large dolls 70cm+ and there isnt much in the MSD range that doesn't look like an anime boy or just a child. :(

    11. I'm looking for one now. I had a Resinsoul Dai that I had the faceup artist give her a more weathered look. I want my character to be in her 30's.

    12. On the one hand I DO like having the ability to have a character look perfect when they're a doll--most of my immortal characters simply stopped aging (and happened to look pretty good), and two of my dolls are based on characters of mine who I have described as doll-like. But there are also plenty of character I'll never make into dolls BECAUSE dolls look too perfect, and that's not realistic for me to have ALL my characters smooth-skinned and gorgeous and young.

I would LOVE to have some old dolls for a few gentlemen of mine... 50's and 60's with smile lines...! <3 And cute little beginning bellies instead of ripped stomachs.. I'd be out a lot of money very quickly.

    13. I would absolutely love to see some older dolls! :) If it weren't for the fact that I only collect MSD's, I'm sure I'd be tempted to make a character in their 30's or 40's. All the sculpts I've seen that get close to looking that age are just too large for me.

    14. "Older" like Gerard Butler, heck yes. Older like Hugh Hefner? Definitely not.

    15. I would LOVE one. I'd love to make a doll of Granny Weatherwax from the Discworld books, but it would take a lot of work to modify a sculpt so that she looked old enough. I also have a few characters, really fashionable older ladies, that I would be thrilled to get a chance to make into dolls.

    16. I am most drawn to fantasy dolls with a mature yet youthful look. Most of my dolls look like they are 22-28 years old even if they are hundreds or thousands of years old. I personally would not be interested in a doll that looks much older, but even though it's not my thing I hope others can get the type of doll they want.

    17. I would buy a doll that had more mature features and showed the signs of aging. I think it would make an interesting and unique subject. I'm trying to diversify my collection and think that a doll with wrinkles would be kinda awesome...especially if they had the body to match. I'd love to create some sort of parental or old sage type character to blend with my current crew.

    18. I HAVE dolls that look older - some of the bodies CAN look old, especially under clothes. I've a Souldoll Key whose faceup makes him look in his 50s, & I just got my DZ Helene done to resemble a very well-preserved lady of Taiwanese extraction - late 40s/early 50s. I've got four more characters to shell who are over 50 :D They are out there - SoulDoll and Ringdoll both have older men dolls available right now. I really want to get a more, shall we say, curvaceous body (like the Sharmisthra one) and put a sculpt with an older faceup on it to shell one of my older lady characters :D

NOTE: You know, people in their 30s are NOT OLD... just saying - and a lot of dolls can totally shell characters age 30-35. Also, many people in their 40s don't look it - maybe a few little lines on hands, eyes, lips... The Helene faceup is like that - from a distance she looks young but then close-up she's got fine lines on her face. That's how a lot of women in their late 40s actually look LOL

    19. I think that David Kuncci (Dollshe) looks over 30 years old. In my opinion, the Granado produces dolls that look like persons of Mature age. Doria (Iplehouse) in default style is a woman of 30.

I would love to see Mature and even very old people, and fat characters in my collection. This kind of “actors” let make really interesting photostories. But, damn, I am fixated on pretty young faces and don't have a Hollywood budget.

    20. Most of my doll characters are 15-21, but my oldest is 33, so yes.

Actually I would love a doll who looks like Mick Jagger. :)
