Dream Doll 'Lily' from Laidoll - Anyone Recognise Her?

Aug 23, 2006

1. ok here you go, as promised a sort of face-up tutorial, featuring meryll n_n;;

http://h-u-s-h-e-d.livejournal.com/103625.html

i'm really unhappy with how the actual face-up turned out lol but that doesn't really affect the process.

2. Well, that was intimidating. Kiera's giving me a look that say "If you ever touch my face like that, I'll kill you". Still, Meryll's had some awsome faceups, so i can't wait to see the newest one.

3. Mendokusai that is an awesome tutorial. Thanks so much. I love the trick with the eraser on the eyebrows. Maybe sometime you might like to demonstrate body blushing too? Please?

4. Mileebert, lol! meryll is used to it, she's my little guinea pig n_n;;

Cloud, thank you n_n and you're welcome! maybe, it's pretty easy. i hear a lot of people complain about body blushing taking more time, MSC, and saying it's harder than just a face-up... but for me it's the total opposite.

ugh, all of this face-up/commission nonsense has really taken away my time with my own dolls *_* once i manage to give meryll a face-up i'm satisfied with, there is definitely some pic spam long overdue.

5. I Want Merryl Spam!

6. I second that! Cool tutorial :) very useful. thankies.

7. Hi there, everyone! I'm new to DOA, but I've admired BJDs for quite a while. At first, I only admired them online, but after meeting one in person (a CP Chiwoo), I knew that I just had to get one. Since then, I've seen many, many dolls, and I've even been to a doll meet. But even after meeting all those dolls, I was never sure which one would be my first. Although they were all gorgeous, none of them matched the doll that I had imagined for myself. I was beginning to think that the one for me didn't exist out there, anywhere...

But then I happened to be casually browsing DOA, looking at pictures, and I came across Lily. And within seconds, I fell in love with her and frantically began searching for the website that sells her. :P It's funny, because many doll owners have told me, "When you find the right doll, you'll know," and I never believed them. But now, I can say, with 100% certainity, that the statement is true. As soon as I saw her picture on Laidoll, I was hit with an "I'M IN LOVE!! Eeeeeeee!" feeling, and I knew that she just had to be mine.

I'm planning on ordering her soon, but after reading this entire thread, I still have a few questions about Lily for you guys~. I'd be super incredibly grateful if you could help me out! And by the way, all of your Lilys are SO BEAUTIFUL. *flail*

1. Face-ups: After reading this thread, I got the impression that many of you either did Lily's face-up yourself, or commissioned someone from DOA to do it. Did any of you actually get Lily's face-up from the website? If you did, are you happy with it? Also, as someone new to BJD, I'm not sure how you explain what you want in a face-up to the person doing it for you. ^^; Do you show them pictures of other people's dolls as examples? Do you explain what sort of expression you want them to have? Also, if you think it's better to get the face-up done by someone outside of Laidoll, do you have any recommondations on who I should go to? I'm not *too* keen on the idea of sending my Lily away after waiting for her to arrive, but I'd be willing to if it would be better for her in the long run.

2. Shipping: I'm a little confused by Laidoll's shipping process. 6_6 I understand that you have to e-mail them to get a quote...But how much has it generally been for shipping to the U.S.? Also, after showing Lily to a friend, she began browsing Laidoll and found HER dream BJD, Yin. :P So, she's now planning to get him, as well (Lily will have a boyfriend! X3), which made me wonder: would it be cheaper for us to order our dolls together and split the shipping cost? Or would it be exactly the same as if we ordered them on our own?

3. Size: Being quite unfamiliar with BJD models, I'm little unsure about how big Lily is in comparison to other minis. My original plan was to get a full-sized BJD eventually, but I love Lily so much that I'm definitely willing to sacrifice that.

4. Yin (so...this question isn't exactly about Lily...): I'm asking this question on behalf of my friend that I mentioned earlier. Do any of you have/know someone that has a Yin? My friend said that she searched DOA, but was unable to find owner pictures of one, and she's really eager to see some. She wants to hear all about him!

5. Last question: Is there anything about Lily, good or bad, that I should know before purchasing one?

Thank you guys so, so, sooooo much for your help, in advance! I'm bouncing-off-the-walls excited about this, so I'm sorry that my post got a bit long. XD;; But you all obviously love Lily, too...so I'm sure you understand how I feel. THANK YOU AGAIN!

EDIT: Ooops, sorry, I actually have another question. ^^;

About shipping...It seems like some of you guys got her so quickly! Does Laidoll tend to ship things out quicker than they say? Approximately how long does it take to get her? XD

8. Welcome, and Congrats on your doll!
I'll do my best to anwer your questions about Lily.

Ok, face-ups. I ordered one from Laidoll, and I'm happy with it. Her eyes and eyebrows are very detailed, and the lips are very subtle. They're a bit pricy though, so if you can bear the thought of sending your doll away again, it may be best to commission one here.

Second question: Shipping cost me about $60, I don't know about two dolls.

Size: While I can't compare a Lily to another mini, she's about 17 inches tall, wich I believe is a little taller than your average mini.

As for anything you should know ahead of time, be careful with stringing issues. Such as, I accidently took Kiera's head off, and it was hell to get back on. And stand warned that her cuteness will take over your mind. But I think that's a good thing. :) She really is a wonderful first doll.

And shipping: I ordered on November 16, and she was here about two or three days before Christmas. And that was WITH a face-up.

9. Thank you! ^^

Which face-up did you get from the site? ...I'm curious to know which one she has in her pictures on Laidoll...

I think it already has. :P Hahaha.

WOW! That's incredbile! It would be wonderful to get mine that quickly once I order her!

Hehe, thank you so much for all your help!

10. I did my own face-up, so I couldn't put in my two cents on that aspect. I think with getting your doll without a face-up would be best in my opinion.

And that's just what it is, an opinion. The reason is that I don't feel that thier face-ups are worth what they charge for them. There are a lot of great artists out there to sift through to get an artist that gets closest to the "look" that you want your Lily to have.... Or, you could do it yourself. To me, that's one of the most fun aspects of having these dolls.

Shipping, I couldn't tell you because I'm a spoiled brat and my fiance buys me my dolls (except for my Mini Fee ShuShu that I got today, WHEE!). He got her for me for Christmas, so I'm not exactly sure when she shipped.

Also, I would recommend purchasing Lily through E-Bay! Search Laidoll Lily and there is usually one listed. That way you have e-bay's feedback system to back you up, and you don't have to guess at shipping through thier website! I've never bought two dolls at once, so I don't know how that would effect shipping... (too expensive to buy two at once usually!)

by size, I would guess you mean, what fits her.... Wigs for Lily are smaller than the regular MSD size. If you are planning on buying her wigs, you would want one listed as Unoa size. I believe that's 6-7. MSD clothes are a bit big, but will fit. Look at the "friends 2B made" website for more inexpensive cute casual clothing. They fit Lily pretty well! This is all that I have experience with as far as clothing goes, so I couldn't really say much else... Oh, 16mm-18mm eyes work, depending on how much white you like showing on the eye.

Again E-bay is a wonderful resource for clothing, wigs, eyelashes, MSC, eyes, shoes....etc.

As for everything else, looks M-Bert has pretty much answered it!

Good Luck with your Lily! She is a great little girl. :D

11. Kaga you know exactly the same happened to me with Lily. I was all set to get another doll, you know - save up - join in the 'saving up thread' - and then I found her on the Laidoll site.

''oooh she's gorgeous!!' and within a couple of hours she'd whispered her name into my mind and demanded to be bought! There went all plans of any other doll. I did put up a spirited attempt at resistance - alas - it was futile LOL

I have in no way been dissapointed with her, she is lovely, no sanding required, particularly easy headcap (magnets) and I found getting her head off and on was easy (Mendo how were you trying to get it back on? I had a huge great hook thing handy, here we have some metal bookmarks that are US made, they have crystals attached - I used that) easy to get her hands off to put bracelets on.

Kefri is a normal skin if that's any help. I have ordered two more wigs for her so I will post pix when they get here.

Face up wise I love the promo pic of her on the site, but seem to remember that they said they wouldnt do that face up, tho I have never found that since so mebbe they took it off. Anyhow I like to get down and do my own things - painting I can do - its sewing I find hard. Plus it kept the cost down a lot.

I'd second the reccomendation to buy from Ebay, there has been some comments about slow responses to emails ( I figure Change has a life outside of work LOL) but the doll always arrives.

Teen Trends clothing fits well, if you hunt around for pix of Kefri on DOA her black jeans and pink tee are TT, as are her boots. I havent yet ventured into buying shoes for her from BJD sites other than Leekeworld and the MSD boots were huge, but the ebay bought sandals fit fine... go figure! :)

So excited for you - YAY another Lily fan. You gotta spam pix of your girl when she arrives

12. I like that tutorial. Very easy to follow and well written. What are your recommendations for making the lips fuller? I love full lips on dolls!

13. lol when i first saw lily, i was spewing nonsense for a few days until my fiance demanded i buy her n_n;; she was so cute, i couldn't stop thinking about her.

as far as size and height, lily is about average i think. she's the same height as my souldoll, but shorter than my other dolls (which are all either boys or slightly above average height). she's slim for a normal MSD though. but all of my dolls are a little on the slim side so it's not much of a problem for me.

as for face-up commissions, it's usually best to give as much information as possible n_n it's so much easier for me when somebody gives me a thorough list and i know exactly what they want (picture examples of other face-ups are even more helpful), compared to when somebody simply says "pink lips and black eyeliner" >.<

ryanking, thank you n_n i'm not quite sure what you're asking, but since it's pretty OT on this thread, feel free to PM me n_n

14. Mendokusai - Thanks for the Piccy tutorial! I had taken the existing face up off of my dolls a couple of nights ago and after all of my undercoating I was getting ready to try things out... ShuShu showed up last night (YAY) so I gave her her first coating of sealer. I have started using your techniques and let me tell you that they are awesome. I just sealed again and I'm planning on starting the next layer this evening. Kayla's starting to look like hot stuff with her new eyebrows. :)

15. I'll post more piccys of her once she's done....

16. awesome! i look forward to seeing how she turns out!! n_n

17. hmm...shipping for me was $52 and i got her less than a week. she is slim, and her feet are smaller than standard. Wigs may be big on her...rubber bands will be your friends! to get a faceup, one of my friends makes photo montages pasting other dolls' features to get what she wants.

i love sadako...no other doll would be as perfect!

18. Aw, it’s really cool that you were able to do the face-up yourself. But totally out of the question for me. I’m incredibly unartistic (unless you count writing), and can’t even draw a stick-figure, let alone paint the face of my beloved doll. ^^;

There actually *is* a Lily listed, but a friend of mine just informed me that she once bought 2 dolls at once from DOD, and the shippping price was about the same for those two as it normally is for one. If that’s the case, my friend and I will probably try to buy our Lily and Yin together to save some money. I sent an e-mail to Laidoll, and am going crazy waiting for a response…But I can’t order quite yet anyway, so that’s okay. Hopefully I’ll get a reply soon! 6_6

Sue~Yes, that’s exactly how I feel about Lily. It’s definitely a “RESISTANCE IS FUTILE. SO MUCH FOR ANY OTHER DOLLS” kind of situation. <3 I can’t wait to see pictures of Kefri in her new wigs! She’s so pretty! I also adore her name! And yes, I’m definitely going to get the normal skin tone…I like that one the best, by a landslide. And the more I looked at the website, the more I realized that the promo pics of Lily on Laidoll are my *favorites* of her, face-up wise…so I’m really hoping that what you’re saying has changed. ^^; Or that I can at least get one similar to it. I’m starting to think that there’s no way I’ll be able to send her away after I get her…6_6

That sounds like me. I can’t stop thinking about her. I’m a college student with lots of papers to write, and normally I’m pretty focused, but after discovering Lily, this has been me:

*types three words*
…
*goes back to look at Laidoll*
…
*types four words*
…
*goes to check for an e-mail from Laidoll*
…
*opens a book to find a quote*
…
*starts rambling about Lily and how adorable she is to a friend*

And every day, it’s been getting worse. ^^; I really want to order her soon!

Fellow Lily fans~ Thank you, guys! So very much! You’ve all been so helpful, and I’m really grateful! <3 <3

19. hahaha you've got it bad LOL - its great isn't it :) I turned into a bratty four year old waiting for Kef to arrive

'' aw no mail AGAIN!! <<incredible sulk>>> texts or mails everyone I know to tell them that there was no mail for me.... LOL

Thankies for your nice comments :) I love her name too, it is based on Kethry from the mercedes lackey books if you were wondering - I have her as a part shin'a'in.

Sarah - how's that new face up coming along? Can't wait to see.

anyhow for no other reason than I just took it and I like it here is more Kefri spammage - back in her jeans and default wig, and new TT top :) (the interesting lighting is an experiment with light filtering - I used it on the Eclipse Night photostory in the relevent section (link - http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121819&highlight=eclipse+night) and wondered how it would work under normal indoor lights)

20. Sue~I think I've already hit the "bratty four year old" stage and I haven't even ordered her yet. ^^; Earlier tonight, I had a new e-mail in my inbox and got incredibly excited...but it turned out to be an announcement regarding my friend's fanlisting, rather than a reply from Laidoll. >_________<

I've never heard of those books, but now I'm curious to check them out. xD

That's a really super adorable picture. <3 She's so beautiful and poses so well. *_*

And now...*flail* I'm going to meet a Lily on Saturday, because there's a BJD meetup at my mall in New Jersey. I'm so excited, I can barely think straight.
