Dream Doll 'Lily' from Laidoll - Anyone Recognise Her?

Aug 23, 2006

    1. Well tonight I completed my first sewing project for Kefri :) a tank top, it was meant to be a t-shirt but it kinda got too short. Anyhow I've teamed it with her new Tonner knitted top and made her a hat to go with it.

Here - under very bad artificial light - is Kef the Sk8r Grrl!! :)) LOL

      Alternatively titled 'Gi's the skateboard!'

(yeah I know, should be baggier etc etc but you get the idea)

    2. Um, I have a bit of a problem with my girl. She's in about 15 different pieces right now and I don't have a stringing tool to get her back together. I've seen the tutorials, but I just can't get the strings through.

Any suggestions, please? I'd like to have her together by a-kon, but right now it seems impossible.

    3. Have you tried using a large paperclip? Just straighten it out except leave the hook in the center bent. (that's basically what a doll stringer is, a glorified straightened-out paperclip with a wooden handle.)

I've also heard of people using ribbon... I never tried it myself, but they swear by it.

    4. Oh hugs - thats awful!

Never ever tried it or seen a tutorial, but how about a crochet hook or similar?

    5. I use a piece of string, It's not so difficult. There are tutorials in youtube.

    6. I use a black cord, like you make necklaces out of n_n to pull the elastic through

    7. Any luck restringing her Happy Cupcake? <fingers crossed for you>

Here is more Kefri picspam, I bought a pair of kids socks from a market trader who does original designs of fairies and witchy whimsical characters, I fell in love with the style and made Kef a sweatshirt out of it. The tailoring's not good but - hey :)

I wonder if the lady would get any response if she sold some of her designs to folks involved in the BJD world...<muses> whaddya think?

    8. hehe that's cute! i forgot to say how much i loved her little shirt and hat you made before! n_n

    9. My Lily is unstrung because her head isn't back yet. I use a combination of bent wire (slightly thinner wire than what is used for clothes hangers) and a chopstick to restring dolls. I left my Lily's arms strung because they seemed to be more trouble than it would be worth to unstring/string them.

    10. Sue - OMG that is the most adorable sweater! And WHAT a brilliant idea to use socks!:thumbup (hmmm... are you doing anything with the other one?:3) the knit top and toque were awesome too!

      happy-cupcake - any updates?

    11. Was it made from a sock? It's cool! :o

    12. New outfit and Ukyou finally has her head back. :D

    13. OMG!! she is soo beautiful!! so natural faceup, i love it!!!

    14. Sue: I love the clothes, and using socks to made clothes out of it is a great idea!

Se-chan: Ukyou is really beautiful now, so sweet!

Well, time for Dil now. I removed her first face up, It didn't fit her at all. Well, the new one is more soft and it fits her better. Now she don't look that nice but she's more like herself.

The bra! Hand made! A hell to do it, but worthy...

And another one, with pigtails ^___^

      Sorry for the picspam.

    15. Mendosukai - thank you :) glad you like them both. I had fun making them, there's just something about making your dolls something...

Tokiko thanks too, I have another part of a sock, only the bit that goes round the ankle coz it took more than one sock to make that shirt :( I havent decided what to do with it yet :)

Aranluc - socks make ace tops once you sew them into something better, they have the added advantage of being stretchy and naturally shape for a good fit. The stripey tank top was also a sock, for what its worth you might be better off with an adult sized one (which is annoying as the best patterns are in the kids aisle) as the kid ones tend to be too small around to fit her well.

Dil looks ACE with that face, very fresh and pretty, I love it, Somehow she manages to look different again than all the other Lily's - amazing job!

Se Chan - she looks GREAT, now *thats* how I want to be able to sew! you are very talented, beautiful picture of Ukyou.

    16. Thanks! I sanded a little her nose, maybe that's why she's different somehow. About the socks, one of this days I'll receive a little boy, 25 cm tall, maybe children socks would fit him...

    17. I've been haunting this thread in the hopes of seeing your girl and she is stunning! I really love that face-up. :D

    18. The talented seamstress who made that outfit is lindsay. *points to post above* :aheartbea

    19. All of the picscam is wonerful. Everyone's dolls look great, and I LOVE the new face-ups. Aranluc, what do you mean about Dil not looking all that nice? She looks GREAT. Almost like something otherworldly. And that bra? Fantastic.

    20. Thank you!

I mean she doesn't look as nice as in her previous face up :sweat
