Sorry, @dds27, I can't help you with your request, but I can congratulate you on your DoI Elf The B acquisition! Ryu
Hey there! I haven't been to Den of Angels in a very, very long time, and came to surf the thread for my favorite (and defunct) company. I saw your Tohma and have to say he's so cool!! Absolutely rad; he was my favorite character in Gravitation anime (iirc there was a manga I didn't read). I may have seen your boy before, but regardless, it was nice surfing the old posts and seeing him today. Looks like this thread hasn't been posted in for a year either lol. Yesterday and today I have been dusting off my dolls, and (sadly) getting them ready to be packed away for a long awhile. I'm doing some major cleaning of my all-too-small apartment, and many things need to get boxed up so that I have room to sort and reorganize. It's possible I won't see them again for a few years if I decide to wait until I can afford to move away before unpacking them again. Thinking of how rare they are makes me want to do one more photoshoot (the first in 6 years honestly) but that would mean redressing them lol. They had on random clothes though; I'd want to put them in their default clothes for a shoot anyways. All three were secondhand, but way back then, I was happy to find all three of them. First came Lahoo, soon after was Shall, and then finally the missing member Camine arrived. Camine's pleather straps were already flaking so I never used them, but other than that their fullset outfits have held up. I really don't have time to fool around with them and the camera though... if I find some older photos I took of those three, I'd like to share a few here, just to celebrate them before they hibernate. It amazes me to see how DOD still get a lot of love, and that a few were even found for sale out there in the wild. I hope anyone still hunting finds what they're looking for.
So the dolls have been packed up, but along the way I found a really old booklet! Must have been from 2006, when the original owner bought the fullset Shall. It was in an embossed pink envelope, and about 7 inches tall. It has a fancy tissue coversheet with shiny text. (tbh I had completely forgotten these three characters had tan versions lol.) I decided to share most of the pages in a Flickr album: Dream of Doll I'm glad I found this booklet! I have one of the square ones they threw in with a lot of orders too, but this one features my favorite trio and feels more like a fancy gallery in style. Plus, I don't recall the image of (not tan) Camine on the top-left of the page. Feels like a rare find! xD
I had no idea there was a tan Shall! She's so cute Thank you for sharing the booklet with us @Lehst !!
oh! Have the images of the tan versions been lost to time? I did not realize... I must have forgotten they weren't even on the website back when I was actively buying the dolls. Well I'm glad you enjoyed looking at my snapshots lol. They sure are interesting. Honestly I've never actually seen anyone own one; it must have been such a small run and during DOD's early days. Well, I found a few old photos of my dolls. I was going to upload two here, but I'm not sure if embedding them is working, so I'll just leave another album link for anyone interested: share (that's just the album's name lol.) Wow from these images alone it looks like Shall and Camine are an item! But in reality she hangs out with them both. I think Camine was new at the time so she was excited to see him. x'D Goodnight my dear dolls, may you rest well in your boxes until we meet again.
I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for DOD and your dolls are sooo gorgeous. Thank you for reviving this thread!
@ElectricMauve aww! thank you so much for the compliment! DOD had wonderful style, and while my bf and I didn't want to own more bjd, we still really loved several of their other sculpts and admired the photography. I was a tad worried about posting in an old thread, but this is the DOA's official place for the topic after all. It also made me happy to see that fellow fans of these dolls still surfed in to see my wordy posts lol. It was really fun for me to skim the old news too. Our love for DOD will surely live on. (^_^)/
@Lehst I was constantly on the DOD site back in the day too but the only tan dolls I remember seeing were boys like tan Ducan and I think Camine. Tan Shall must have been before my time since I love Shall but totally have no memory of a tan one. Now that I know she exists I have to go hunt for more pictures of her... Thank you for posting your dolls! Even though the thread is old and not so active we love seeing the dolls here so I'm sure it was a very welcome surprise for everyone Excited to see more of them when you're able to pull them out again!
Oh, well spotted! That is a photo of Camine I've definitely never seen before - a lot of similar ones but definitely not that one I hadn't forgotten there were tan ones myself (I'd desperately love to own one but alas they are rare) and iirc there was a tan Shall owner in the database here.
I'm absolutely dying over here. There's 3 dods up for auction on the 18th but I don't do auctions, especially by estate sales/auction houses. There's what appears to a tan Code 2 (but they have him listed as a dark ducan), I think a Shall? in colonial getup (her sculpt isnt listed), and an Elf Ira! The Code is gorgeous, i love the way hes styled too
Is there any archive site that kept pictures of all the outfits DOD sold? I remember them being amazing.
Oooh is it an in person thing or via website? I'm totally curious and would love to see, even though I can't buy them lol
@Mirth I'm considering bidding on the Ira, simply because I've never seen another one and probably never will again. I've never bid at an estate auction, though, and this would have to be absentee. Is there a reason I shouldn't?
No, no, there's no reason not to! I just don't like them (auctions, not this specific company) personally due to experiences in other hobbies, just make sure to have them wrap anything you win very very well and prod to see if they have accompanying documents/boxes that they might not have realized go with your item it's in person but they have a catalog online and absentee bids, it's by Sunflower Auction!
There's a Black Elf Sha too! He's a big tan guy Regarding the auction, I had an actual heart palpitation when I saw the Black Ducan listing and then was crushed when it was a Code 11, but he is definitely still handsome!
Ahh, damn, he is a Code 11! I may have to have a shot at him myself if they'll accept overseas bids. @Mariemisu - no website, but the DOD Dropbox has all of the clothing images I've found/been sent!
Thank you! That was so cool to look through. So many amazing dolls, BJD and others! I actually recognized some of them from their owner having posted pictures on DoA. There are some I would absolutely love to have, but I'll have to watch from the sidelines and hope whoever gets these lovelies shares them online somewhere.
