Dream Valley Mini Discussion Thread

Feb 7, 2018

    1. I have 2 birdmen (Soom Euclase & AS Qingyi body w/MD Snake Demon head). I do not need another birdman.

At least that's the story that I'm being told....

    2. I love the bird feet on Rah's eagle version, but not the bird head. I am planning a Dream Valley MSD as my next doll though.

    3. I've asked DV about possibility to put human head on eagle body and human version Rah head on classic B4-04 body.

    4. I have a Euclase boy on the way, just bought him in marketplace and then I saw Rah. I have a Bastet and I want him too. No must not but ohh this is so evil. Off to cry.

    5. he's gorgeous but me & my wallet are secretly glad he's not 1/3 size
they are killing it with incredible sculpts lately though :love

    6. If they were to do a male cat-taur in this size (tall MSD/short SD) I think I'd be in some serious trouble. I know they did the wolf-taur (Order & Chaos) and a 1/6 cat-taur and they were hella tempting but I was able to stand strong on that.

    7. Regrettably, I think I’m going to pass on eagle Rah, as cool as he is. Now human Rah, however… I’ve just realized that he’s nearly spot-on for one of my dearest oc’s and the fact that he’s not limited is a huge bonus. I’m not ready to order him just yet, so for now he sits in my Alice’s Collections cart. :)

    8. Their YoSD Cat Taurs were adorable, so I'd love to see some MSD sized cat boys as well! I did fall hard for Chaos and his little fangs, pretty much in love with the engineering. I need to take some more pics of him, but here's Randall being silly with his boyfriend for the holidays.

Honestly I wish I could order Rah's lower bird legs separately and put them on my Bethel boy. They're so pretty.

    9. @Magnus Vale I have long loved the Bethel body. I know how much of a PITA dressing a winged boy can be as I have several already but... I'd still like to own a Bethel. I think, perhaps, that if I hadn't recently received Akash (AS Qingyi body), I'd be working harder at not needing to but Rah.

Akash is OT for this thread and I'm struggling to figure out what I'll have him wear so that it doesn't hide the amazing wings sculpted on his back and chest and the very cool feather details on his calves. A skirt/shendi/kilt is def going to be what he needs to wear as I'm 100% not into removing his bird feet every time I want/need to change his pants.

    10. @Iron_Dog It's really a beautiful body. I'm always impressed with DV's sculpting. I love bird and feather themed things, so he was a must have for me too. Quin Yi is gorgeous too, if I weren't primarily a MSD and smaller collector, I'd definitely be in love with him!

Ah, the good old fun balance of fantasy parts and clothes or showing off tattoos and clothes. I have a gorgeous dragon tattoo on one of my boys, but he's not really a revealing clothes type of character. Dove (Bethel) hasn't been too bad as long as I've found clothes with either wide necks or anything that can be slid up from the bottom. Now, Camus, my dragon Greyson, is a real jerk to dress, since in addition to the enormous dragon wings, he also has his gosh darn tail. Plus the ongoing battle to get wigs to not pop off his horny head.

Kilts are definitely getting more and more tempting at this point.

    11. @Magnus Vale My DV difficult to dress dude is Kheima (3-arm body). I basically resort to wrapping a thin scarf around his torso in a sort of halter style and secure it at his waist with a broach. He wears sort of hakama pants for his bottoms.

As for other... challenging guys to dress.... Neither Akash, Rhyia (Soom Euclase), Darisu (RS Pixiu) or Gunari (Lume Light Koit w/Soom Alk legs) can wear pants because of their bird-like feet. Macian (Spirit Doll Dark), Sleet (Soom Auber Storm Sprite) and Iwa-Xine (Soom Boehm Smoke Sprite) all have wings that fit into slots in their backs so frequently go without them because I'm lazy. Jaiseki (AoD Min) and Kijika (AoD/LE Doll Adonis) also have wings but theirs are the strap variety since they didn't originally come with magnets so they're marginally easier to dress.

Dashiell (DearMine Oskar) has beast legs/feet so pants are generally a non-starter for him, too. Naicree (Argonautica Little Kio) has fins on his legs and arms (and he hates wearing clothes *sighs*). Vaynabei (DC Clemans) is a merman. Nassano (Sugarable Naga Adian) and Hylocereus (MD Snake Demon 64cm) are both nagas so clothes isn't really something they do. Skerren (Akhmel Nathan) is... well it's just a crying shame to put clothes on him and because of his VERY delicate look, anything on him would look like a tent. Mkhai (Impl Miguel The Demon Hunter) has bone spikes all over him that make clothes very trying to find. Vasyl (Soom Vesuvia FtM on Poison Kiss body) needs pants specifically made for him as his awesome tail gets in the way of regular pants. Ferrous (HZ Roro Nui Nui) doesn't really have arms/legs (they're conical stumps). Itzal (Vita Magica Izel) has a tail that doesn't detach (he was an OOAK the artist made) so getting pants on him that aren't custom is a nightmare.

I'm not even mentioning the guys I have that are difficult to dress because they're a weird, non-standard body size. In case you haven't noticed, I lean heavily to the unusual, odd dolls. But, I also sew 95% of the clothes my guys wear so generally dressing them is not too huge of an issue although it does mean I have an absolutely stupid number of patterns, most for specific dolls because of their weird sizes or unusual body requirements.

    12. @Iron_Dog Ooof, yeah, a third arm is definitely a challenge. If/when I get the three arm body, I'm planning on using some of TTYA's clothing since they snap in the back and I can just leave one open, but if you don't want to dress in modern style, it's definitely even more challenging.

I feel the Soom wings things, I have several Little Gems with wings - A Volo, a Ray, the Erland skeleton set, and a Goss Regression. I've been using clothes that snap in the back mostly, although at one point I did commission someone to make a shirt with wing slots for the pegs to stick through. My Greyson is my only rigged tail boy at the moment, which I either use his fullset pants or a pair of leggings that can slide up underneath. Also on the point of leg challenges is my Soom Shale - who has those enormous fantasy hoof legs - which means he's definitely wearing shorts or harem pants most of the time. Luckily Cheshire, who also has fantasy legs, is petite enough to fit into leg holes most of the time. It's weird finding the balance between gorgeous fantasy sculpting and functional clothing.

Ah, it's nice that you can sew clothes for them too! I was working on learning to sew, but my current apartment is too small for a machine set up and I haven't had much time lately. Unusual size dolls are pretty fun though, even for their challenges. You have excellent taste!

Now I wanna try commissioning some better pants for my Greyson. At least Bethel fits pants, although I prefer shorts so that I can show off the gorgeous feather sculpting on his leggies.

    13. @Magnus Vale If you do decide on the 3-arm body, be prepared for it to be strung insanely tight. Or at least Kheima's body was. I was genuinely afraid of moving his parts as they creaked alarmingly. I was barely able to get his head on it (SD Souloid Gold Mechanic Phiel head). I ended up having him re-strung as even a month of leaving him curled into the fetal position did nothing to ease his tension so much as 1mm.

He does have some reduction in the ability of his 3-arm to hold poses after re-stringing but I'm no longer afraid of damaging him just from moving his parts as you normally would. He is still strung fairly tight but not as tight as the factory default. He was so tight that when we went to re-string him, we couldn't even get his feet unhooked to release the elastic. They wouldn't pull away from the socket more than about 5mm. Yeah, he really was that tight. The arm was/is also strung on the same elastic as his legs so it took a bit of fiddling to get it right.

A large portion of my guys wear either ancient Asian inspired clothes or ones that are pieced together from various traditional styles from around the world to be a future sci-fi sort of thing. I have very few in my crew who wear modern clothes and they're not out there in body design. They're more of the rare/never-heard-of-him type but have typical body measurements.

    14. I needed help getting Morrigan's (Rosa) second wing on since she is also strung very tight. I'm planning to get the Howard II head and the three arm male body to put together. Putting his head on Is going to be interesting when I get him.

    15. I just got the comparison pisc from DV I asked them for. I thought you guys would like to see it too, so I share them:

1.Human Rah head on the old classic B4-04 body vs. eagle Rah on the eagle body: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51783555449_c0df9b8725_h.jpg
New body vs.good old B4-04 body looks slim and small. The hands are soo tiny and slim.

      2. pic of a special (short) neck inside of eagle’s neck:

That’s why there is no chance to put human head on the eagle body.

    16. I’ll be honest, I was hoping the extra definition sculpted onto the new body would’ve had it end up slightly less slim than the other two… obviously not that built or anything, but it looks like it’s basically the same size aside height. I noticed that about the hands as well in Rah’s pictures, I love the delicate look but they feel undersized to me. Those are an easy fix, at least.

    17. Okay but is there any reason why DV can't just swap the eagle body legs onto the standard Rah body? Surely the legs are the same size at the hip?

regarding the three armed body, I had a jacket custom made lol. It has a hole in the back for the extra arm to stick out. I actually modded a factory made shirt to do the same so he could wear that underneath. It's not too tricky, you just have to be brave with scissors.

    18. Suerly are, but the neck of the human body will be too long tu put back an eagle head, so you'll nedd to put the eagle legs back onto the eagle body. You will need two bodies human and eagle one to could use both heads (human and eagle one).

    19. I mean for people who want the bird legs but not the eagle head. Why could DV not just cast the regular human body but cast the eagle body legs and hybrid them? Then you'd be able to have human rah with the eagle legs like some people want, or just the body alone with the bird legs.
I'd definitely be tempted if I could buy a body with the bird legs that'd take a regular head.

    20. Me too, @purple_monkfish . I love those legs, but animal-head Egyptian gods as dolls do not appeal to me.
