Elfdoll (8-inch)

Aug 21, 2006

    1. Well, Elfdoll just told me that my doll is "in transit", and will be shipped 15-20 days from the email they've sent me. I kinda suspect that they copied the body of the payment confirmation and only changed the title, because it's the same text they sent me after I confirmed payment. He might arrive before I have to leave town.... considering that I apparently don't get EMS where I'm located at (according to Elysium, who refused to send me my Elysium head [via EMS] because EMS doesn't come where I'm at), he'll be sent registered mail, which can take up to three weeks.

I have to admit, I was kinda hoping that I was one of those who didn't get notified when their doll was shipped out, like Valli. *cough*

And, for future reference to those who have to ask Elfdoll any questions on their Q&A, they rarely reply past the first question in a thread. If you respond to a question inside your own thread, they tend to pass you over when they do their daily replies.

    2. I got the same email today...in transit...will receive in 15-20 days...
but I received Hana several days ago. So I don't think the email means much.

    3. >< Oy vey.

    4. I didn't get a shipping notice today D: I'm just hoping they forgot *sighs* I want my dollies ;o;

    5. Wow, Shes Here! No Name yet

My Order Still does not say Shipped.
      What a Fun Surprise!
I love how easy her face plates Change!
I Hadnt thought about it...But 3 of the faces Come with Eyes. How nice- As that would sure slow done changing her face.

    6. Congrats! Hoping my tinies come this week D:

    7. Mine arrived today. He's a bit kicky, but his legs are very poseable. He has trouble sitting without rolling backward, and his left hand arrived stripped on the inside and fell off as I was dressing him. Having a horrible time changing it out for the included fist hand, maybe someone can give me some pointers.

I can't seem to get his wig to actually go onto his head all the way yet, either. His outfit is nicely made. I think his wings are plastic, and it's held on by a pin type backing. He's got a really nice weight to him. There's a baffling joint right at his upper thigh that doesn't seem to do anything, as there's no ball and socket (Ah hah, it just swivels, gotcha). His elastic is very thick compared to Elfdoll Tiny elastic, it almost looks like the same elastic that holds together the Rainy dolls. His tail is sewn onto his pants, and it's wired to be poseable.

His ^_^ face looks like Gilbert Gottfried.

Also, it seems that Elysium Doll fibbed at me. EMS does come to my location.

    8. My Devil's hand arrived the same way. I took a picture of the damaged hand and mailed it to Elfdoll, I am waiting for a replacement. To change the hand, use a crochet hook to pull the elastic while you hook on the new hand. It takes a little coordination--that elastic is strong! Aren't they the cutest little things?

    9. I actually just now got the hand on. *laugh* I did almost the exact same thing, but I couldn't find my crochet hooks, so I used an unbent paperclip instead. I put him between my knees and pulled, and threaded the ball on, and then pulled again, and then threaded the hand through. Now he can play 'rock' and 'paper' in a game of "rock paper scissors".

Also, the wig is beginning to fit a little now, but it still takes many attempts to get it to stay. I think it needs to stretch a little bit.

Maybe I should email Elfdoll, as well. I think that I can just glue the screw back into the open hand, but maybe I shouldn't have to do that.

Oo I was posing him a bit and his wig popped off and flew about a foot away, got some good air, too. That was startling and funny at the same time.

    10. Oh I'm so glad you finally got him! shame about the hand though! D:

I can't wait to see pictures!

;o; I can't wait for mine to arrive

    11. I am sorry to hear that others are having difficulties. Little Veruka is a delight and I've had no problems. I don't like the wig particularly as it sticks out at the sides, but now that I'm using clips to hold it down it's much better. I'm actually using her in my story. She's quite inspiring! I see so much more in her faces as I study them and put her with other dolls. She is so expressive.
I love the weight of her, too. She's just perfect.:love

    12. AnnTagonist.
I sure hope yours arrives too!

    13. I cant get my Hanas Wig on Either. I gave up since I had my Own fur wigs here.
(I never was able to get Cumis Wig on Either)

Changing the faces sure is a dream.
I do want to pack her box away. I need to decide how to store her faces- so they are easy to get to & change.
How do others plan on storing their faces?

    14. Hmm, I haven't even thought about the storing of her faces... A guess a little rectangular candy box or something, stuffed with cotton batting or polyfill. Ferrero Rocher boxes, clear plastic box with rounded corners, come to mind. I always have a couple kicking around... ^__^;;; I use them for holding anything from tiny clothes to beads, to spare change...

    15. Sorry for replying again. I just wanted to share a few comments regarding the Hana doll, as a whole.

      Resin:
The resin quality is nice, and up to Elfdoll standard. He's less shiney than my Elfdoll Special Red, who can sometimes look like he's oiled up for a muscle shoot (not something I mind, really. *cough*), or even my Sooah, who has a nice polish to her that I find really attractive (she's my favorite doll). He is not matte, but he's as close to matte as I've seen on Elfdoll.

      Heft:
Surprisingly weighty, for such a small doll. It's pleasent, but most of the weight is in his torso, which is not jointed. I imagine his torso can take a lot of abuse, it's quite dense. The biggest problem with that, lies in his extremities. His legs are short and slim in relatation to the torso, which means that when you sit him down with his legs straight in front of him, he will have a strong tendancy to flop onto his back, like a little turtle.

In fact, I've taken to calling my boy that, as a nick name, "Turtle".

      Joints:
His legs are very nicely jointed, and capable of many perplexing poses as a result. Hana can crab walk at a moment's notice.

His arms are less well jointed, and his wrists aren't particularly useful as a result. He can rotate his wrists easily, and flex the joint to a minor degree, but the degree is very minor. I suspect I will have to wire his arms, not because he's got poor arm joints really, but because I wired my Min Del Re, and I am accustomed to my tinies holding awesome poses with their arms without real effort.

His neck is typical of an Elfdoll neck, he can't look up very well, but he can rotate easily, look down very well, and tilt -- for a sassy, "wot j00 lookin at, huh?" effect.

      Faceup:
All the faces are consistant with the same doll, with different expressions. This is very nice, as I did wonder how consistant they'd be. I imagined it'd be hard to find a customizer willing to faceup four faces to look like the same doll, with a different expression, due to imagined difficulty. End result? I'm being very precious with his faces.

      Face plates:
The mechanism works very well. If you're prone to touching your dolls at the chin, the face plates will probably pop off, but not fall off, as the wig holds it in place a bit. All but one of my faceplates sit nicely against the head, and that particular one is only off by a tiny bit, so it's not noticeable with a wig on at all.

      Clothing and Accessories:
The shirt and pants my guy came with were nicely made. In fact, they had the effect of making my doll look better, by better defining where his, uhm, butt starts and stops, and where his torso starts and stops.

The horns were cute, and I kinda think they are made of resin. The wings seem like plastic, to me, they have some bendiness to them. They fasten by pin style backing. Mine has glue strings and a couple globs where the pin was glued in, like they used hot glue. I don't see any signs of the pin falling off, however.

I have not removed the shoes from their packaging. They seem to be made of tiny strips of pleather with an ostritch finish, and they're basically sandles.

He came with optional fist hands, which have a little hole between the thumb and the palm, like he's loosely clenching his fist.

The wig my guy came with is too small, it seems. I mentioned it earlier, but at one point, it popped off of its own accord and shot away from his head like a rubber band. *_* I laughed. It seems to be secured via a tiny strip of rubber or silicone at the back, and some grippy stuff in the front. However, my little strip is bent in half, so it only grips when I stick my finger underneth and make sure it lies flat. It still pops off at will, but it will stay better if I do that.

      Sculpt
His faces are nicely sculpted, and you can see little furrows on his brow when he makes a pinchy face, and whatnot. Ears are cute. Hands are nicely made. Feet are small and not quite as detailed.

The torso has some definition, unlike stock photos imply. He's got a little belly, a little line in it to imply abs and a tiny belly button, and pectorals and nipples as well. There is also a bump to imply ribs. It's by no means the definition of an SD sized doll, but it's there... it's not smooth all the way around the bend, like their photos imply. ;) He's also got a reasonable clavical area.

I really wish he'd made the legs just a tiny bit thicker and his torso a little shorter, or legs a little longer. It does seem a bit disportionate in real life. I sincerely believe that body blushing will amend a lot of those aesthetic issues.

      Stringing:
My boy came perfectly strung, that in itself was kind of like winning the lottery for me. He kicks just a tiny bit, but not as much as my Min Del Re did. He stands without help, and can stay that way for a long, long time.

      Size:
As suspected, he seems kinda big compared to my Tiny, but then... she is a Tiny.... *laugh* I think both sizes have distinct advantages, depending on what you're shooting for. He's large enough to give greater detail to the mould, and small enough to tote everywhere. I like his size.

I'm long winded. :/ *laugh* Makes me want to apologize again.

    16. Oh! Don't be appologizing Eidolon Tree! It's a very good and detailed review, and very much appreciated. ^__^ Thank you!

    18. That was a great review, so detailed and precise!

    19. Eh heh, thanks. I hit 'enter', saw the length, and went ">< What have I done?" I tried to write what I'd have liked to know about any doll before I bought them. Hopefully someone finds it useful in the future.

    20. still no tinies for me D: D:
