Ever been disappointed? Even a little?

Sep 16, 2008

    1. The only thing I actually like about my Soom Glot is her hooves :( After all that waiting, all that wishing and hoping and I don't actually like her all that much. I'm hoping this will change after a face-up and a period of time, but at the moment I just don't like her. When I opened the box it was instant love, but I think this was really relief that she arrived. I've noticed a lot of things that irritate me about her, particularly her rotating thigh joints and thin resin. When I compare her to my YoSD Yuh, the resin is paper thin and feels brittle, I don't know whether this is a true flaw or whether it's a characteristic of Soom.

    2. I must admit to the teensiest bit of disappointment about my first doll (BBB Ophelia), not so much when I first opened the box, but later, especially when I compared her to other dolls I saw online. But, I did buy her with the knowledge that she was going to need some work done on her (restringing, sueding and so forth), and now, a year later, I think she's damn near perfect! :D (There is the slight issue of getting her to stand, but I can live with that.)
I'm now about halfway through a similar cycle with my Apollo. He's getting there slowly but surely, and I think that both they and I are better for needing work; I appreciate them that much more!
Now, to see if this happens with my incoming Honey Delf...

    3. i hope that doesnt happen to me D8

    4. Just a little bit, when I received my second one and found how difficult it was for me to make what I initially expected from him. Nevermind, now he's more and more similar to that idea, but he is not yet what I wanted. Despite this, I love him ^^

    5. I'm struggling a bit right now with a decision to replace a head on a doll I'd bought really for only the body, but hoped the head would grow on me. Unfortunately, it hasn't, but I really want it to. Still, I can't change the reality that the nose is just too thin and the chin too pointy and it doesn't match my other dolls at all, and will continue to bug me as long as I have it. It's also not worth the pretty major modification I would have to do to remedy it.

I want to not be disappointed.

    6. Yeah... I ordered a Senior Delf Howl and while I love the sculpt itself... he's a bit too sorrowful for my tastes... not to mention his character who's suppose to be this happy go lucky goofball of a vampire... We've been getting by, but I'm desperately awaiting a Landy to replace him, he looks exactly the same in my opinion but he's got a quirky grin which is perfect for him.

    7. the first bjd anything i got was a vampire ill head from oreintdoll.... i though he was msd size but when i got the head it seemed waaay too small for my taste. plus the previous owner didn't take care of it as well as they should of, he had deep scuffs on his forehead and yellowed more then they said... it nearly killed my liking for the hobby. but i just ended up trading him (after a good sanding the scuffs and the yellowing was gone) and everything is cool...

    8. I had bonding problems with Fiebe at first, since I didn't get why on earth I bought a girldoll, but now I love her just as much as the others sometimes even more, my love seems to spread around with my dolls a lot, it grows when they look good in an outfit I made, it grows when I rp with them, ... I guess I haven't really been disapointed in bjd's now blythes on the other hand urgh never ever again!

    9. A good bit of preperation helps. Reading the measurements and getting out a ruler to physically see exactly how big or small the doll and it's parts are is a good start. My favorite place to learn what to expect is usually in the box opening/arrival gallery to see how dolls arrive strait from the company whether they are painted or unpainted. I like to see what the customer service was like and if a few people bought the same doll I like to see if there is quality consistancy.

Even with all these precautions sometimes we will be disapointed anyway. They are hand made and so there will be differences on occation. Sometimes the dissapointment doesn't even have to do with how the doll looks, the quality, the customer service or the condition it was in when it arrived.

The very first doll I bought made me so excited I could hardly breath. I kind of assumed that every time I bought a doll I would feel the same way. There is the excitement of the hunt - finding the doll you are sure you will love. There is the thrill of spending such a large amount of money on yourself and then the inevitable nerve-riddled anticipation as you watch the tracking and desperately wait for the doll. So shouldn't it then be just as exciting to finally recieve the package and open it up?

For me it wasn't and hasn't been since my first doll. That has been a disapointment for me. Sometimes even the very perfection of the doll disapointments me. It was so bad that I ended up selling them.

Finally my collection has been wittled down to 2 second hand dolls which need extensive work and can therefore hold my attention. I don't even understand it myself but...well that's how it goes for me I guess!

    10. Never felt disappointed so far, luckily. Just i had a bit of a negative feeling when i just had Purple and i realized that she was totally, deeply WRONG for the character i was planning. But i always do lots of research before i buy, mostly because like OP when she (or he, i don't know >///<) brought the puki, i am young and have to save a lot of gift money XP

    11. I only physically have one one resin doll in my possession and I am extremely in love with him, so I haven't had a chance to experience disappointment. ^_^; I have my next doll (a yosd, and a tan, no less) on his way, as well as a random used head I bought on a whim, so we'll see how I feel when those arrive!

    12. Hmm, I may have had cause for disappointments in the past, but all of my dolls I have fallen in love with.

Recently I am building my first boy (my other-man doll is an artist BJD). When his head came I ran to the post office, I was that excited, but I have trouble finding a personality for him. He was an impulse and I didn't know much about the sculpt before I bought him. I didn't even really get excited when his body came.

His body is so much heavier then any of my girls. His thighs are hugh. I am going to have to sand them. I am having a hard time getting past that.

    13. I was really scared when I opened Feu's box, actually. For some reason, she just seemed.....off. I shifted her eyes to fix the infamous DoD box-opening-derpface effect, but she only looked a little better - she was still scarily off. Then I trimmed her wig to remove the long back piece, and suddenly she looked WAY better. Still not perfect, though. It's going to take a lot of work to get her how I want, but I think I can get there.

Periodically though, I still look at her and go :\. I catch her face at the wrong angle and I can't help but notice that geez, a lot of Dream of Dolls have all the same facial features. It's disappointing to see so much of someone else in her face, but she's still new. Other times when I look at her, I see only Feu, and in those moments she's perfect. It's just going to take me some time to learn how to pose her and style her so the only thing I see is my Feu.

    14. Glory doll Lucy. I love love love the head sculp. Her nose is the most beautiful thing. But the body did not work out at all. I realized then and there that I was more of a body person than a face person. My whole first week with her the body drove me bonkers and I could not get over it!

I thought I was all about the face but no. I am super picky about the body shape and flexibility. I tried so hard to love that doll but I could not. My mistake was not giving up on the body earlier and just matching the head to a Dollstown body like so many others did. After months of trying to fix her up I was just sick to death of the whole doll and I sold her. She has much a better home now.

    15. Is there really that much of a problem with the Lutz face-ups? :? I thought those were supposed to be generally good, and it seems like a lot of people keep them on. But a lot of people in this thread seem to have problems with them...

    16. Only real disappointment I've had is my LUTS type-3 body.

It's from the Bloody Valentine batch, and while the color is amazing (a beautiful cream), the quality is terrible. When looking at the resin closely, it looks as if the solution was watered down, and he's light---much lighter than any MSD I've come across...even a few tinies. To top it off, the 'double joints' don't do squat. You have to grab and pull on them JUST right to get them to do anything, and they always just snap back into their little sockets, so all the 'enhanced posability' is just...not there at all.

    17. One of my housemate's iplehouse MSD's came with a gimp on one leg. The resin on the inside of her lower leg is too thick so the knee ball and the ankle ball don't really fit properly. We're going to dremel it to make it fit better but in the meantime I think she needs some crutches... o.O

    18. The only thing I've been disappointed by was bodies. Xiaoli's is pretty bad, Her knees don't fit together well, and her wrists have no movement. I've done some work on her, and there is more to do, but I don't think I can do anything about those little hands of hers. But she's so cute I love her to death anyway.

    19. I completely shat myself once when I opened my boy's box. He was covered in bubblewrap, and at the angle I was holding him he looked like a different mold from that company.
I ripped off his bubblewrap mask, and realised it WAS the right doll xDDD (he was just bald..)
      But yeah, nothing disappointing~
I'll let you know though, my 4th doll is arriving sometime this month (hopefully!) so I'll post here if she's not how I envisioned~ D:

    20. Recently received a Chiwoo head from the marketplace. Immediately discovered I dislike large heads. *facepalm*
