Ever been disappointed? Even a little?

Sep 16, 2008

    1. my sister was going to order a MNM, but she changer her mind and i told her instead of dropping out that i would stay in and buy the head. i did that and the day he came here, i was disapointed. i think that he was a bit TOO anime for me. i wanted to keep him as the same character he was supposed to be, but i was kinda sad when i looked at him again. i brought up the idea of selling him, but then again... i think i would be sad to sell him too. but i would really like him not to sit around in a box so i think im gonna man up and do it. and as for my first doll, i couldn't have loved her more! she is in despirate need of a new face up, but thats up to my sister. she controls all things pay-pal! :XD:

    2. i didn't really researched for my first doll (i couldn't actually, it was a new company)
when she arrived (just the head) i started saying things like 'her nose is not symmetrical' 'her lips are lower at a side' ... but after a while i was just saying to myself that maybe i was being overly critic ^^

when i got her body i've seen that she couldn't stand on her own and her legs were kicky
i don't want to sell her, i've tried what i could: restinging, changing elastic, sanding, hot glue sueding... i still have to finish her

then my brownie haha, before her i was like 'i don't want a tiny, its too expensive for such a little piece of resin' then i've seen this smily cutie for about 80$ the fullset
that was my first impulse buy XD

she's adorable, but so little, i don't know what to do with her
tough i won't try to sell her, not for now at least, she's my only smiling doll after all ^^''

    3. I felt a twinge of disappointment after unwrapping my first doll's head - her eyes were crooked! I guess that initial feeling is hard to rub off since now after she has received even new eyes -- I still keep seeing them crooked. :|

    4. It seems to be pretty common here, but when I got my Brownie my first thought was "Oh my, he's so small! What am I going to do with him...??" I left him in the box for days while I was trying to decide whether to keep him or sell him.

After three different face-ups and full body blushings, we finally bonded. I decided I needed to stop trying to make him look human, since he's never going to work on the scale of my other dolls (he can sit in my Ligaya's hand!). He's a wee little goblin mischief maker now. XD

    5. Well, my only doll ATM was a present to me... I had seen him on eBay, and the next day -after telling my parents- he was mysteriously sold, so I had an idea.... but the pictures the darn ebay seller had put up were of a TAN doll, so when I opened him up, I was kinda disappointed.... -pets Giriko- XD and he had this totally overdone faceup that had freaky shadingXDDD

BUT NOW I realize the "freaky shading" was just the lighting at the time, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE him. So much it's not even funny XD He's magnificent.

    6. This thread shows why the marketplace is so active! I've been disappointed once or twice. My Tiny Sage has a wonky leg and she didn't look the way I wanted her to look after I gave her a faceup. I've bought and sold quite a few dolls over the last six years but the reason I sell them is usually because I get tired of them, not because I was disappointed from the get-go.

    7. I decided to post, although she is my pride and joy now, my first doll is a bit of a disappointment.
After months of searching for a nice, cheap doll (Only had $300). I finally stumbled upon the pictures of a beautiful Bobobie Mei, and purchased her after consideration.
Fist off, I waited TWO WHOLE MONTHS of nail biting horror to get her (cursed chinese new year!!). It was excruciating. When she did finally arrive, she was indeed beautiful, came with a perfectly fitting wig, and was gorgeous... Until I sat her up next to a friends Dollzone MSD...

Bobobie girls are SO TINY!!! In bone structure. I've almost decided to find her a wheelchair and just call her a cancer patient. I do still love my Mei(Ophelia), but I'm still a bit off set by how small her bone structure is, especially compared to her MONSTER boobs!

    8. Oh yeah lots of times. Recent developments with my not-even-here-yet SD16 Kira and my Soom Skoll.

I waited 10 months for Skoll. Issues with customs losing them then having to wait another two months on top of that to receive new ones. I loved him and he was cute, but with all the waiting, I'd lost track of what I wanted him to be and ended up disappointed with myself-- and he was sold.

      SD16 Kira was the only girl (well besides another) that I liked and actually decided to buy for myself. A local managed to get one second-hand before I even received mine so I got a full feel of her and then decided she wouldn't work out for me either. Precedent disappointment! 8Db;

    9. I'll share with everyone! :D

AS Cinderella (Miwako)- She was my first doll and I was IN LOVE when I opened her. She was bigger than I anticipated but I was completely happy. The ONLY thing, was that I didn't know they wouldn't put her eyes in. So she went eyeless for a day until I could go out and get sculpy clay.

FL Flora (Rima)- Adored her. Not so thrilled with the blue-gray eyes, after seeing her fullset pics with purple eyes. She's not great to look at bald and naked, either. lol But she will always be clothed, so it's not a problem. Also, DDE told me her sleeping face wouldn't be painted, but had she shown up like that without my knowing... I'd be very mad. Her default wig frustrated me, however. It is entirely insane and won't part the way it's shown in the default pics. Still cute, though.... my little mop head. <3

FL Dark Rose- Her wig would NOT stay on. I was really upset. Also, they sewed her petticoat opening too small and it wouldn't fit. I noticed a the "dents" under her eyes weren't symmetrical. Her face up at the bottom of her face was chipped. I had to get velcro dots for the wig to stay on. I thought the petticoat was just... like that. Until I bought more outfits from them recently and found that isn't the case. So now it's too late and I guess I have to fix it myself. The "dents" are just the way the mold is, but I didn't notice it in pictures. The face up fault isn't really noticeable... There were toxic fumes when I opened her and my lung hurt for 3 days after. But now I guess everything is fine. xD I didn't pay much attention to her at first, since my Ducan came shortly after, but now I feel better about it.

DoT Ducan- I adore him. Completely. For the extra set of hands, they gave me two of the same hand. Which I told them about and they just sent me a second pair for free. So no worries there. :)

    10. This. I am awaiting the arrival of my SD16 Kira as well. Seeing the owner pictures has disappointment me and she is not even here yet. Don't get me wrong, she is beautiful in the pictures, but she does not seem to be the doll Ithought she was going to be =(

    11. I experienced instant disappointment in a new doll recently, more potent than I've ever felt it before. A doll I'd wished and saved and planned for finally came home, and when I opened the box...I felt nothing. I couldn't even bear to take her out of the box for a few days, and she's been stored away almost ever since she came home. A lot of it has to do with the fact that Leeke chose to paint ginormous man brows on her delicate, girly face, which is most certainly not how she is pictured on the Leeke website. I do understand minor artistic differences in the faceup, but to me, this was a BIG difference. The eyebrows completely changed how I viewed the entire doll and concept I'd planned. Obviously, a faceup can be changed, but I really did like the default faceup as it was seen in photos, and commissioning a faceup artist with skills equal to a company artist takes a lot of time and money, so in the meantime, this doll is pretty much just in limbo.

    12. When my first doll arrived I was a little bit disappointed.
Her face-up was wonderful und nothing was broken, but her wig was a giant fail.
On th promo-pics it was a long, red wig, really wonderful und sweet - but my doll looked like Albert Einstein after a huge explosion...
      And she looked so sad...
After that I joined Den of Angels and learned, that the most people are really disappointed by the default wig of the Dollzone Lola and that promo-pics are not the best thing to choose a new doll.
But after the arrival of my second doll I had the wig that suited my first one perfectly.
And the red wig looks really nice after I cut it down and put it on the head of my seond doll.
So this story has a happy ending :)

    13. It's not because she's a Bobobie that she's tiny, it's because she's a Resinsoul. They have very small, delicate slim MSD bodies.

One thing you can do, if the body doesn't work out for you, is purchase a BBB body in the same skin tone - it will be taller and sturdier. The resin will be cast in the same factory and match. Mei's head is big enough to work on the bigger body. And you'll probably be able to sell her original body on the MArketplace to someone who has a BBB mini but would prefer the smaller, more gracefully scuplted RS body. There's a lot of body-swapping going on between the two doll companies. :) You could even put up a Want To Trade in the marketplace and see how your luck goes.

Or you could just enjoy the fact that she can wear Tonner clothes. *is contemplating getting a BBB head on an RS body for just that reason* I know it's daunting to be told you might consider selling and swapping from your first doll!

    14. When I got my first doll, it was completely by impulse. I only knew of Volks so bought a SD Nono right away. After only a few days of waiting [yay Volks USA!], I opened the box and was freaked out.

Those big eyes and huge head...

I was seriously scared of her! After many months of keeping her at my friend's place, I caved in and got her a new face-up. I guess I really hated her default face-up so I love her now! XD

    15. WELL! I got a new head for Citlali. Both my heads are the default face-up, but they both look pretty different. Lol.
I suppose I was disappointed in the sense that it DID look different. Also, I think the resin is a bit off. Which was also a bit disappointing.
But I got over it. Haha. Her new look is growing on me. And you can barely tell that the resin if off... Unless you look supa hard. XD
So, I was a lil disappointed. But I've gotten over it by now. o uo)b

    16. Disappointment I've had my share of... When Argos's body first arrived I was even a little tepid about it before it came, then the group order the body was part of took way longer than I thought.
When I finally fit his head on the body (with a piece of string) it was "too childish" "too big" and "not right". I swear I actually cried about it for a moment. But I sanded down the chest, added Gundam wings and tiny undies, now it looks lovely to me. Hilariously I did try him on an actual unoa boy body and it made him go from sleepy to full-on bedroom eyes. XD

    17. I was disappointed with my first, I brought him second hand from ebay and the seller didn't tell me anything about the condition he was in. (Yellowed, scratches etc...)
In the end I sold him on here and hopefully his new owner loves him now.

    18. I love my first...but the faceup job wasn't that great xD
It's sad when a company faceup flakes ><

    19. Deffinately!
My third doll was a severe disappointment!

I fell in love with her online, and when she arrived, she had a totally different face up, and the wrong eyes! I was so depressed that the doll I had fallen in love with was no where to be seen!

However, I kept her around, and, although I wasn't thrilled at first, she's now my favourite doll, she still has the wrong eyes, and I love her that way. Now, I couldn't imagine her anyother way~

    20. When I first got a good look at my Asyd, Prince, in person... I felt just a slight twinge of disappointment. I loved his blank face in what few pictures are on DoA, but when I saw those jug ears with my own eyes...

I just couldn't take the frowny face seriously and started doubting that the character I intended for the mold would fit with those ears sticking out like that. I got over it fast though (in like... a day), and treat them as an endearing trait. I don't think I'd want him without those ears of his now.
