Ever been disappointed? Even a little?

Sep 16, 2008

    1. Nrgh, yes. A few months ago, I bought a Nathan Fillion Minimee head as part of a GO. The head is lovely. DIM finally produced a male Love size body, supposedly that fits MnM heads, so I bought one. It arrived a month and a half later and it does NOT fit the head. Not even a little. If you put a tennis ball on a popsicle stick, you'd get the idea of the disparity.

However, today I posted a WTB on the board and if all goes well, sometime next week, Mal Reynolds/Capt'n Hammer will have a proper sized body.

I'm kind of amused that I have better luck on the DoA boards than I do with companies. The Bella Auden head I bought from Dollmore is now up for sale because it won't work for the character, but the Banji tiny I bought on DoA is my favourite doll. :)

    2. I was slightly disappointed a few weeks ago, when my Kanu DD arrived.

Just before her arrival, I had to pay a 230$ tax (French Customs -___-).
Once she was in my room, still in her box, I felt disgusted by her. I did not even want to open the package, I was mad at her for 'stealing' my money >.<

It took me a while to decide to open her.
And when I opened her, I was also disapointed seeing that her 'tan skin' isn't very tan. Being the only tan Dollfie Dream, I hoped she'd look clearly tan... but no. When I take photos of her, you can't actually see she's tan except if you place a normal-skinned DD next to her =x...

I love her, but she doesn't have all the love I wanted to give her at the time I bought her.

    3. Yes, I have been disappointed with doll arrivals, particularly the Minimee heads. They are sculpted very well, but the sculptor seems to have asymmetry problems. I don't mind natural asymmetry, most of us have them after all, but the asymmetry on the doll doesn't look natural at all, no one's face slides off kilter on the head like that. And that really bothers me, which is a shame because they got all the face details right.

    4. Maybe a little on Bluefairy Dolls because of seamlines though that is natural...( but they could have offered free sanding services if seamlines are too obvious :)

    5. well, the tan of my doll was more oompa loompa than tan, but i am getting over it...

    6. Yes, I was very very much dissapointed when my Weylin arrived. I never gonna use DHL as a Delivery Company ever again. The box he came in, was literally smashed! As I could take from the sticker it had on the box they opened the parcel and really lousy repacked it. So my Kaldszar came with a broken ear, his headcap also lost the magnet (but thats remedied now). I was very upset about his ear (I do get a new head but it didn't arrive yet), yeah well it was my first doll. He also didn't stand.
But after I calmed down I decided to give a shot at my first face-up (which turned out really great) and so after the weekend I could finally bond with him.
He also had some issues with standing but after hotglueing him and several restring sessions (first he was to tight, he could stand, but in some way I liked his floppyness :doh, then again it was too loose  but I think now I got it :sweat) he stands very well.
I love him to death now ^^. I ordered a new wig and some new eyes for him (his current ones are a tad to dark).

    7. I was surprised that my DM Kid's head was smaller than I'd thought. In fact, I'd though they'd be larger overall - but that didn't disappoint me. I was a little relieved, though concerned that I'd have to send her away if her faceup needs redoing since her head was a little smaller than my fist.

But I was a little annoyed she didn't have one of those knee joints that allowed her to easily sit on her heels. She can do it if I pose her right, but it looks unsightly; naturally, her knee only goes back 90 degrees.

And I freaked out when it took me half an hour to get her wig back on after taking it off...but that doesn't apply here:sweat.

    8. I bought a Kid Delf Ani on eBay quite cheaply as she had staining on her face from a bad wig, which didn't look too severe in the pictures...and when she arrived, I was amazed & delighted by how beautiful her little face was, but badly surprised & disappointed by how dark & yellowy the stains really were. The seller had been very fair and described them well, but I had believed they were as light as the pictures made them look and was expecting something I could hardly see. My reaction turned to complete disgust with myself when, in trying to remove the stains, I took off half of her lovely default face up as well. :doh But, rather than poor Ani being my first disaster doll, the story has a very happy ending as I have learned to do face ups on my girl after removing all her default face up, and to my complete amazement I am pretty good at it and more than satisfied myself with the results....and have completely bonded with Ani as a result of sharing this experience with her! :aheartbea

    9. I was a little disappointed (and still am, but only because I haven't gotten around to/too scared to set it straight) that I can't seem to pose her right or make her stand on her own...but I'm sure once the problem is rectified she'll be fine. Plus one leg/foot is higher then the other

    10. My first doll was slim Bei Elf Girl. I was very disappointed when I got my second doll and she was what I would call fat compared tp Bei. I am hoping I do not have to experience that again. I payed good money for that doll and ended up giving it to my daughter because I was so disappointed.

    11. I just got my AoD Qian TODAY and he was so poorly packaged that his foot got chipped in shipping, and his hands were on the wrong arms. *mope*

      ...I've decided he's probably got a problem with his right foot, and he has trouble with directions as his character, so... not a total loss, I guess. ^^;

    12. I love my leekeworld chouette, but I could hardly stand the leeke body. I tried my best to get used to it, but in the end I just couldn't deal with it's measurements so I bought a honey delf body instead. IT definitely helped!

    13. I did my research actually... but I haven't gotten my first one yet. I've got another payment to go and I really can't wait. I saw him at our local convention. The Yuu-2 doll from DollZone and he was gorgeous. Just jaw dropping gorgeous and his size is perfect as well. I just want to pick him up and hold him but at these types of tables concidering the resin and whatnot, that wasn't allowed. But I disapeared from my art table so many times during the convention JUST to see him. His lovelyness has forced me to start my payments and get my doll. I want him so bad I could just taste it... though I'm sure the resin is toxic...

    14. I was a bit disappointed when I got my Bobobie Charisma. The pictures on the website made the head look more attractive than it really is- the Charisma head in real life strongly resembles Ann Coulter's, except even more mannish. I have done some serious modding on that head, and am still kind of ehh about it.

    15. I don't think I posted about this yet... but I need to just SAY IT. I really hope I'm not the only one with this dissatisfaction.

I got an Angelheim Zion head in a GO. and based on the stock company images, I was quite eager to get my paws on him and sand his ears to be human and paint him up and put his wig on and he'd be a floating head for a year until I got his body. It was all planned out. But then I got him. And then I noticed immediately... Gawrsh, he's very poorly finished.

He is not smooth at all. His forehead, temples, between his lips, the fold of the eyelid, the opening of the eyes - all was so very UNEVEN and bumpy and... just... not smooth at all. The neck of the head and the cheek melted into one - there was no sculpted jawline. In his ears were terrible, too - rivalling the bumps and dips and uneven nooks and crannies of between his lips. Behind his ears was very uneven with no definition to the shape of the shell of the outer ear.

But I didn't think much of it, no, not until I sealed him and tried to blush him with black pastel. There's a SCRATCH in his lip going from the corner of his mouth up towards the middle of his lips, his eyelid creases are carved to uneven depths - his left crease is deeper, and subsequently the pastel is STUCK there now - on top of the natural un-smoothness and unrefined surface, the pastel and sealant is trapped.

...I got the head in July, and I have been discouraged about the doll hobby since then. I'm trying to get myself together to get back into the swing of things and make the head work, considering that selling the Zion head would result in a large loss of money...

Besides for the Zion head, I was always satisfied with my purchases when I first receieved them. I've not been disappointed with them, merely, I've sought better alternatives for them over time because they did not meet my standards. But not disappointed, no, not like this.

    16. I'm miffed that my Wishel's head cap won't stay on properly it falls off every time I handle her, so annoying!

    17. Mine's slightly different (as I kevetched breifly about in another chat thread). The sculpt is great, the doll intact. The wig ... looks good, but I don't think it's the "it" I thought it'd be. Nope. I'm just, well, freaked out. I'd seen bjd's in various sizes, held them too. In awe with everyone else's big dool. Unnerved by mine. I fell a bit beter right now, mainly by talkign about it and trying to work out my neuroses, but this id defintely a process. Ironically, I find myself trying to unbond with him. Trying to find a balance between "special 'cause they're customized and customizable art pieces" and "but it's still a doll, dangit."

    18. I was so disappointed when my Rainman Silf arrived. She had no character at all. There was virtually no face-up and her arms and legs were beyond kicky. I tried various wigs, bought tons of clothes, but nothing went right. I'm hoping to improve my relationship with her eventually. Meanwhile she will be getting a new faceup and I'm hoping she will be happier and that I will be happier with her.

      Merci

    19. Mine is mostly an example of 'should have done more research'.

I ordered a HZ body and finally finished paying off the layaway installments. Afterwhich shipping was really fast and I had him in my hot little hands not long after. As for the body - it's wonderful! It's beautifully sculpted, the resin is as white as fresh milk. If i had to find a fault with it it's that it doesn't have an upper torso joint. But this is a small thing - the character it was intended for is a bit of a show-offy peacock - so he wouldn't really have a need to slouch.

The problem lies in the following - the body doesn't fit it's intended head (even though I did measurement tests, the body uses a split ring system, and the head is designed for s-hooks) and the resin match is rather horrendous. That made me rather sad.

Oh well, good comes of all things and now the HZ body is intended for a different character, who will come home when I have found the right head for him. And my floating head will need to stay a floating head a bit longer while I do some proper research this time.

    20. Lati can disappoint, especially when they forget items or an entire doll, or get a premium face-up wrong. When they get it right though, it's so worth ordering from them! :D
