Ever been disappointed? Even a little?

Sep 16, 2008

    1. Have you ever been disappointed with a doll company?

And I mean anything really, messed up face-up, broken parts, doll doesn't match the promo pictures, anything.

For example, I've read in a couple of posts that dolls have arrived with broken parts, like fingers or head caps : c

    2. I was *a little* disappointed with Dollmore both times I ordered from them - but not so much that I took any action, or don't want to order from them again.

A pair of white sandals I got for my MSD had some weird, dull pink stain on one sole, but unless you really looked at it, you won't easily notice it. I don't really put her in those shoes because she can never stand in them, anyway.

The second time, it was this thin, knit sweater that came with two holes in it. Not 'big' holes, but they were more noticeable than the shoe color thing. The sweater, overall, was a lot thinner than I had expected anyway, so I could see how holes could show up. I think I was too lazy to say anything, and would've said it was supposed to look like that if anyone had.

    3. Ok...setup: i had ordered received and loved my first doll Wolfgang (Camine from DOD). So i figured why not get him a buddy as well, and i had my eye set on a DOI Luke. So i ordered, asked for custom faceup and everything along with his size clothing. So i received him several months later and he looked awesome.....but then i started holding him aaaaaaaannd....he felt like a doll. Somehow Wolfgang was different.
I cant explain it but holding Wolfgang is more than a doll....but Titan (the Luke) just doesnt settle with me....kinda considering selling him just based on how he feels. He has amazing looks and everything, but im doing my best to get used to him. =J
I try not to show my distaste for him...he might be possessed and try something while im asleep. =(

    4. Try restringing him. It's amazing how differently a doll poses or feels in-hand depending on how tight the elastic is. (That's why I keep one of my own, the Alabaster Prince, strung very losely. Al can't pose worth a darn like that, but being "floppy" makes him much more cuddly than any of the others. XD)

    5. Hmmm...sounds like a good advice tip thing....i do think he is a bit stiff....maybe makin him....FLOPPY would suit me better....even if he cant pose. Thanx alot amigo(a)!

    6. Yeahhh I was disappointed with my very first doll, unfortunately. A few things "went wrong", but by no fault of the company. I got him within 7 days of ordering him, but I bought his outfit from another company and didn't get it until 2 weeks later. And then I needed to change out his eyecolor... and by the time I finished, he wasn't the creation I envisioned. He's set on two different shelves, but since I've moved home from college and have two cats... he's been placed in his bag and shuffled away.

I sometimes think that I haven't properly bonded with him, because I recently took him out to restring him and I still wasn't happy with the results-- plus he was STILL too floppy to pose or stand. He was SORT OF an impulse buy... but I just can't bring myself to part with him, so I'm just going to re-customize him. XD

I think I'll be a lot happier this time, but we'll see. And luckily since JID girls aren't in stock right now at Iple, I haven't been able to put Tania on layaway- and now I'm thinking about getting I instead! So we'll see how that goes!

    7. I was majorly disappointed with my Soom Heliot when he arrived. I really despised the paperyness of his white resin and his face really didn't enchant me like I thought it would. His hooves were just big chunks of resin, like somone had taken Sard's hooves and filled in the gap.

He was also very resin dusty which was very unpleasant and worrying :(

My second disappointment was also Soom. When my Soom Idrial arrived I was so unimpressed by her face; she looked so goofy! And her eyelashes started to fall off really quickly and just...everything about her was blah.

Think I might give Soom a miss from now on...Needless to say both of these two found new homes quite quickly, Idrial the dy after she arrived :sweat.

    8. I've been disappointed by more wigs & eyeballs than I can count... I chalk 'em up as "Learning Experiences", trade or sell or repurpose the offending item, and move on.

Words to the wise, from my most recent: Soom shouldn't bother trying to make fur wigs. That lovely red short-fur wig on their site, which looks so fetching on their model Chrom, it doesn't look a bloody thing like that in person. They rolled & hemmed the edges to a ridiculous thickness, so it looks like a fur hat. xD

Wigs and eyes are small change, though, compared to the doll itself. Luckily I have never had a major doll disappointment. Only one doll arrived looking different enough from his sales-photos that I had to do something about it.... my Iplehouse Luo Strongman arrived with a lovely faceup that had two of the most mournful eyebrows I've ever seen, and dolls with sad expressions make me feel like crying too. I'm pathetic like that. ;;^^ But other than that, he was perfect. So I had his eyebrows re-done, until they looked like the eyebrows in the sales photo. Now he is perfect. <3

    9. Most definitely. > <

I was hunting for a girl doll for my boy at the time, which was surprising since before this I had a LONG history of failing with girl dolls. I just could never get them right or how I wanted. But I figured, why not? If I fail miserably this time, I'll know it's not meant to be. So I browsed and browsed the MP until I stumble across an adorable hybrid that was in need of some rescuing. Of course, I had the money, so I bought her and excitedly awaited her arrival.

The seller had said she'd come with clothing, which she did, but most of it just made me tilt my head with a o___O; face. And the poor girl was so floppy I could hold her chest piece and her lower half would just flop around and dangle willy nilly. To me, she felt like she was 'broken' and in need of some major TLC.

Admittedly, several baths later, restringing, a face-up, and eventually a more fitting body, she has become my absolute favorite! All the disappointment and doubt really helped me to bond with her by fixing her up into what I wanted her to be!

    10. On thing I was disappointed with was the face-up on my first doll. The eyebrows were supper bushy and not as dark as the displayed photo on the sit.
      It grew on me though.

    11. Since I haven't got my doll I can't say so much yet, but I am really disappointing in the communication between me and Villemoart *_* And things have been so troublesome I'm expecting the wrong doll now, and I'm expecting it do be shorter then I think it is.
( If I knew that it would be this kind of slooooow communication, and that things would fuck up this way, I had never ordered it :( )

    12. I was very disappointed when I recieved my blank Dikadoll LingYue head this last winter.:( I can't pinpoint one particular facial feature, but something about his face is just not as cute as I had expected. I guess I learned the lesson everyone learns in time: wait for owner pictures before purchasing a newly-released sculpt.

    13. Sadly, yes. I ordered a LE Iplehouse Carina Bellydancer when she came out and I was ecstatic waiting... but when I opened the box, I just stared. It may have had something to do with my never having owned a female doll before, or perhaps that she didn't have a faceup but she just didn't look right to me. That, and I wasn't as enamored with the E.I.D. female sculpt in person as I had been of pictures. I tried rewriting the character a bit, rearranging the story but it just didn't happen. I ended up selling her and for a long while didn't even look at female sculpts again. But I've since reconsidered and ordered another female doll, with plans for a few more. This time, their stories are stronger but with a little more leeway as far as characters go so if they don't look exactly how I planned it won't be too hard to fix. It also helps that I have since started doing my own faceups, which helps me bond with my dolls initially. :3

    14. When I first got into the hobby, I wasn't a member of DoA and didn't know very many companies. I knew of only Volks at first. The sculpts really didn't do it for me and the prices seemed like I would never have the money to get a BJD. I then was pointed to The Junky Spot and really fell in love with Dollzone's Shoyo. She was in stock, so I didn't have to wait more than a week to get her. I was so excited to get my first BJD, but was really disappointed that she didn't look like the photos on the website. Her face up was different and she wasn't as big as I thought she would be. I've tried different wigs, eye, clothes and characters for her and just never really clicked with her. I've been trying to re-home her for almost two years now with several layaway's going badly for me. I do much more research now and have a character before getting my doll. I think that has helped with my success now with bonding. Also looking at owners pictures, so I know what the doll looks like outside the website stock photos.

    15. I have not gotten my first doll yet, but I am scared this will happen to me :x
I am in LOVE with Elfdoll's Dami, but what if she gets here and she's not what I expected? I mean realistically, I am sure this will not happen, but the worry is there probably because of the amount of money that will be put into it. Not to mention all of the anticipation and hope as well!

    16. I've had a couple of instances where the online pics on the marketplace just didn't quite match what I thought would be in the box. Through no fault of the previous owners, who posted great pics from every angle, but when the dolls arrived, they didn't look quite like I thought they would. Either the posing was a bit off (I had one who couldn't sit up at all) or the body itself was just a bit different and more boyish than I pictured.

I've learned to live with these little things but at first, I definitely had a few "WTF was I thinking???" moments.

    17. I have been disappointed once. Not because of the doll but it was in no way fault of the company either.
Cecil is my first SD boy, I was so excited when I saw his pictures in a forum. He looked so amazing. So I think after a month or so, I had ordered him. When he had finally got home, I gathered up Marki and Triya as well as an action man [ lol ] to watch the unboxing of their brother. I was gob smacked when I saw that the bottom of his leg had chipped off. It was a huge chunk! as well as his head cap and his other leg had a crack in it.

Unfortunately, due to his fragility, I had been slightly scared of handling him as well as putting shoes on him which meant it was a little difficult to bond with him. Even to this day, I admit, I get a bit worried with handling him in case he does break again. But he is a very tough young man! And thanks to a very good friend of mine, he's not as flopsy any more plus, he wears a bandage over the badly damaged leg so it'll take a lot for it to break!

Despite this, I have bonded with him pretty well <3 we were playing on the PS2 earlier ^o^

    18. Yes, I've been disappointed several times when I see the doll for the first time. But usually once I put on the wig/proper eyes/clothes, the disappointment usually fades. There were a few exceptions to this, though. The default face-ups for my two Ringdolls did not look as good as their promo pics or other owner's pics, plus the resin for one's head doesn't quite match his body. Another one was Switch Javi. I felt really fortunate to get the sculpt because it sold out fast and I only got one in later in a lottery. Unfortunately, I didn't realize the Switch uses different face-ups in the promo pics than the face-up the doll arrives with. This is my fault for not researching thoroughly, but I was unaware that any companies did this. So, obviously, the head didn't look like what I wanted and I'd wasted money on the face-up. It made me really stupid and angry with myself, and I never even took a picture of the head. (Also, the head looked worse to me than other owner's pics of Javi with the default make-up.) These guys are all getting new face-ups though, so hopefully I'll learn to like them. However, I've never ordered a second-hand doll and felt disappointed with it because I knew the exact doll I was getting and none of the sellers have lied about the condition of dolls. Also, I've never bought a doll and then sold it soon after, so I guess overall I've been lucky with doll purchases.

    19. Well actually yes... and that happened most of the time with China bjd companies (I'm not trying to be racist nor anything~_~)
The first time I was really disappointed with AngellStudio when my first AS boy arrived ): ...I mean, disappointed with the quality of the outfits they had provided .The doll is gorgeous but the outfit is totally ...different from the one I seen on the site >_<....It should be a royal blue but it came out as some old and worn colour D:..... and the shirt supposed to be white turned to be yellowed >.>..I placed my order after they restocked the outfit,so I assumed that should be something, new?
That was a huge disappointment for me especially I just came in touch with bjds for lesser than 3months.

The second incident was by AS again= =....They promised a gold card for the doll but I received a normal purple card :( well that doesn't matter much anyway.

The most recent one would be Ringdoll ,for the wait and excuses they gave :/ but ,that's already settled for myself.

    20. My favorite doll this hour (I know, I know, we're not supposed to have favorites) is also the disappointing one. But we are working out the bugs. I think of him as being a bit congenitally afflicted and in need of a bit more care. *twitch* He was way too late in the mail, to start with. His eyes weren't even cut out right, his body is a robotic mess, he needed ankle braces, he's bow legged (and restringing won't cure it). I'd have been more upset if the post had done something to him, so I'm not inclined to be disappointed with dolls, but with the peripheral's, like wigs and customer service.
