Ever been disappointed? Even a little?

Sep 16, 2008

    1. Yes. It was a Latidoll yellow Ninja Ruki. I loved all but one of the photos and bought him as soon as I could. I knew he would be smaller than my other dolls but I had my heart set on a toddler doll for a while. When he arrived and I saw him I realized that the one photo I didn't like was the one that most accurately portrayed him. His face was not rounded as some of the photos indicated but ...scrunched much too oval for my taste. It made me really sad.... I ended up selling him.

    2. I think my most disappointing doll was an Illusion Spirit Lin Xi. I had originally gotten it blank in WS, despite really wanting her in grey. But the most disappointing thing was that the body was so ugly and the legs were so short and stubby. It also had nothing at all to wear. I ended up selling it soon after. Several months after I did, I went to MoC and saw a grey one they had in stock with the default faceup that was very lovely. I realized eventually I'll want one in grey again, but with a nicer body and clothes that fit.

Another doll I was initially disappointed in was actually my Fairyland Kyle. I was a little intimidated for some reason, and afraid I had made a bad choice. It took a few days to get over my initial feelings, but I took him with me on that same MoC trip and bought him a fancy HZ outfit, and I knew he was perfect for the character. I just adore him now. He is the cutest little jerkface! :aheartbea

One of the things I realized recently after putting another doll up for sale was that I tend to be disappointed in impulse buys. I see a doll that I really have no plans for and I buy it on a whim because it's pretty. But it ends up being something I'm not prepared for and that doesn't fit in, and I sell it soon after. When I buy a doll now, I have to try and take a bit more time to make sure I like the face and that it will have a body, and that it has either something to wear or that I will be okay with it not having clothes. While I am still a highly impulsive buyer, I'm trying to be better about what I get now that I know where my problems lie. D:

    3. I am somewhat disappointed in my first doll, a Bobobie Sprite. She's lovely, but was something of an impulse purchase, and I realized after I got her home that I didn't have money or time for the accessories and mods she needed. Without the clothes, eyes, and faceup that I saw her having in my head, and with her being completely unable to pose (even after tightening the elastic as far as it would go), it was very hard to bond with her.

It ended up being that I took a long break from the hobby and she sat in her box for a while before I got the nerve to take her out again. Now I have a little bit more spending money, too, so I can afford the materials to improve her, which helps. I've also given myself permission to let her sit around eyeless, wigless and naked because the default eyes and the sock dress I whipped up when she arrived just looked wrong on her. I rather her be a blank slate than look so different than how I want her to look.

    4. Oh, sadly, yes. My most recent doll, a Soom Azur siren-type. The pictures looked so delightfully mysterious and sinuous and ocean colored. When he came, even though he's very pretty, his tail is blushed pink and green, his human torso does not sit neatly in his fish tail, and he's so...sparkly. I just don't like him. He's nothing like what the pictures led me to believe he would be, which is so sad, since a merman would be so awesome. Fortunately, I also ordered his human form, and I'm very excited about that version. He's so perfect. Oh, well. You win some, you lose some. Hooray for the Marketplace! :)

    5. I had order a doll from a company.. when I saw the picture on their website, I fell in love with it but after I waited for few weeks and finally receive the doll. It's not quite what I expected. The body is very long and slim and the head is smaller than what I had expected. I was quite disappointed.

    6. I have, it was more a personal preference though.
The first BJD I fell in love with was a Delf IF. I loved her big eyes but I was CONVINCED I should get a boy doll for my first doll and I went with a Delf Yder including the sleeping head. I loved the stock photos so I was convinced I would love the doll just as much.

No dice. I hated the face sculpt. Nothing matched up with my personal preference to dolls (which I know now is huge eyes, small noses but not overly OVERLY thin like the YDers and pouty mouths) so he sat in a box. For a year.

I eventually sold both the sleeping and the open eyed head and on the very same day I got the offer of buying a face up'd IF head. I jumped at the chance of course and that's how I ended up with a Male Delf IF. The disappointment led to the best thing that's happened dolly wise to me. While I may not like Yders I am thankful for the events that led up to me ending up with my perfect doll.

    7. I recently bought A Souldoll Chiron Human Version on Ebay, and after weeks of wrangling to get him home (the seller wouldn't post to NZ) and paying the customs ransom, he finally arrived, but when I opened his box he reeked of cigarettes, so much so that his box stunk out my craft room, and his hands and face are yellowed from the smoke. Needless to say a damn good scrubbing was in order and I had to wash all his clothes, wig and cushions to get the smell off. I now however am a bit disappointed with how my other dolls pose in comparison, since Chiron poses like a dream:doh

    8. Oh yes. I do indeed. My first doll was a kid delf ani. I had ordered her blank, and because I was so new to the hobby, I had never seen a blank BJD head before. When she came, I almost asked the company if they had sent me the wrong doll. I eventually noticed they were the same, even if they looked different because of the faceup/lack of faceup. This story has a happy ending, though; I grew to love her, especially after I got her nice clothes and her first faceup. She's away right now getting a newest faceup and body blushing, which I dropped a good bit of money on, and she's still really special to me because she is my first, and only MSD.

    9. I was very disappointed when I got my second doll, a Dollzone Nina. I had only seen the stock photos and her face and face-up looked much nicer in photos. After 3 years of trying new wigs and things to "hide" her features, I worked up the courage and sent her to get modded and a new faceup. Her nose is gorgeous now and she's a doll I love to look at.

    10. Yes. My B&G doll was disappointing. The body wasn't aligned. And it was a warzone to get him home. So after all of the straining effort to contact B&G which seems to have become damn near impossible, he finally gets home and his body is terrible. Should have just bought the head. =\

I was also disappointed with my Idealian. His head, hands, and feet were like... unpolished. The rest of his body was shiney and beautiful but his head hands and feet were like... "well what happened here?" I saw pictures of other peoples Idealian's and they didn't have this problem. I still love him dearly, but it was still disappointing, especially since I had so many high hopes for Soom/

    11. I had bought a boy earlier this year, and he most definitely wasn't anything I had expected T.T I had even done some research on him to make sure it was what I wanted...apparently not enough research. He was too big for all the wigs I already had, and the knee joint was rough and pointy enough that now I'm scared to have him in anything pants, just for fear that he'd ruin them o.o

    12. ever since I got into this hobby I've been dying to get a migidoll Ryu and a couple of months ago he finally arrived and I was so in love with him~
...but the body... I pretty quickly discovered how much I dislike migidolls bodies... sorry, but he looks like crap... he can barely pose... I was sceptical only from seing the company pics of it but I thought I'd give it a try.... and now I regret it..... <____<
I'm totally gonna buy him a new one from a different company as soon as I can afford it.

    13. My husband has 2 and I have 1 and a floating head but I just got mine earlier this month finally. My husband got his first dollfie in 2009 and really at first it creeped me out and I could find a ton of things I would call disappointing simply because I'm picky and wasn't so fond of it. He got me into it though, and I just got a Fantasy Doll Nina. I had opposing experiences with her and the Obitsu my husband got shortly before. On Fdoll's website, her stock picture doesn't do her any justice. I was hesitant to get her at all but I did a lot more research and realized how poor the company's photos are, so I was pleasantly thrilled when I got her with the custom face up I ordered. She is absolutely stunning!

HOWEVER, my husband had gotten a used Obitsu not too long before that. The seller disclosed and took pictures of her staining from custom tattooing and clothing stains as well as it being dirty. When we got her though, she had ear piercings that were not disclosed, and they were VERY poorly done. It almost looked like someone had used an eyelet screw to make them, and the one almost pierced through the bottom of her lobe so the plastic was stretched on the bottom of the lobe and looked horrible.

Also, one of her feet was completely smashed and distorted. It was like something heavy had been placed on the foot for a looong time and deformed it. We were very upset, but she did work with us and give us a partial refund to make up for it. I attempted to fix the foot via heating, shaping and cooling it (since it's hollow plastic) but it only held the shape for a few hours. She's going to get replacement feet sooner or later. The upside is that most of the stains came out, save for spots of red from an acrylic tattoo.

    14. This happens nearly every single time I receive a doll though it doesn't last for long. I usually feel uncertain until I find the perfect outfit/wig for the doll.

    15. It's happened to me like 3 times but the problem was the company face up. The only default face up I've liked was my first doll's face up and he still has it <3 but I just changed the face ups of my other boys and I completely fell in love with them :) however, it is a horrible feeling to be disappointed at first sight and after all the waiting and money spent the least thing you want is feeling that way >_< and then spend more money for a new face up but that's why I love BJDs, if there's something you don't like you can change it :]

Lesson learned: I will buy from now on my dolls w/o the default face ups....

    16. I got a doll with a broke foot hook once. Other than that I always liked what I bought, although it slightly varies, how much that is.

    17. I've stopped ordering the dolls with default face-ups now. I think that if you order with a specific look in mind then there is much less chance of feeling disappointed because a default face-up is completely out of your hands.

    18. I've been generally kind of disappointed with my Soom Amphibel. I bought her with a certain character in mind and suffered for four months to be able to pay her immense layaway, and then when I got her she just...didn't click with me. I've given her five different faceups so far...this last one is the best but I screwed up her eyebrows:| So once I get my floating heads done I may turn round and try her again. I'm getting a little tired of messing with her, but am determined to try for a while longer!

    19. I was really disappointed with my Iple House Barahan and made mention of that fact in his box-opening thread. Boy did people jump down my throat and make me seem like some ungrateful n00b when the doll looked to me nothing like he was pictured. Which of course made me even more upset about the entire situation because that was just plain rude.

    20. I've been disappointed in individual outfits that I've purchased, where they looked better on the dolls online than they did on my girl. Doesn't happen often - usually I'm pleasantly surprised with how much better outfits look in person - but every so often something just won't click. No problem, I'll just rehome the outfit to someone whose girls it might work better for.
