Ever been disappointed? Even a little?

Sep 16, 2008

    1. My first big girl was (& is still ;)) a Salubia by Dollshe.

She hadn't been packed with her wig, and the eyes she had were a different color--very nice green glass eyes, but I fell for the brown ones in her publicity picture.

I only had one wig, which had come with Dollmore Dean--who had green eyes.

So my poor Salubia looked like a really distorted Dollmore Dean in the wig, and really really angry bald.

Fortunately, I received my first Dollheart wig order within a week, and Doogie at Luts (at the time) assured me the company would send the wig right out. And I went to a meet two weeks after her arrival, and I could see how pretty she was.

But that initial bald & po'd doll. wah! :crushed

Xaion and I are much happier together now. :)

    2. I think I felt the same when I got my Puki. I knew she would be tiny, but I wasn't sure HOW tiny. I love how cute she is.. but I was thinking "Should I have done this?". I had been planning to save up for a U-noa.. and then BAM. One impulse buy later.. I have this tiny girl. I'm still trying my best to bond with her.. trying out new face-ups and personas is where we are right now. Sometimes it just isn't meant to be!

    3. Never ever disappointed but I have been shocked by the quality of some resin, even on some really expensive dolls. I hate the plasticy feeling lightweight resin and prefer the heavier almost porcelain feeling resin and I adore the French and love the mellowing (not yellowing to me) of it.:)

I agree tinies can be shocking but who can resist them? Not me, I can't resist any of the dolls! LOL

    4. While waiting for my Souldoll Miryu, I grew impatient and had been seeing tons of promo pictures of DIM Flowne and I loved the way she look. She popped up on Ebay and I bought her immedietly. There hadn't been any owner pictures yet, so I was clueless about how she would really be. She looked completely different when I got her. She was so wide-eyed that I couldn't stand it. She was also very floppy...

When I received my Miryu, it was definite love. I was so excited about her that I completely ignored Flowne. I eventually sold her.

My second was an impulse buy. I saw a Lati Rei in the marketplace and I wanted to see if I would like a boy doll...definitely not. I won't be ordering any boy dolls. I sold him just this week.

I'm also discovering that I prefer tinies. :D I can transport them easily and find clothes for them more easily. :)

    5. P.S. Star, your Flowne is the best I've seen!

    6. For me, the worst experience came after months and months of anxious waiting. I ordered a Bobobie doll from a doll shop who carries them. I'd fallen in love with the Bobobie colored resin which is a wonderful quality and already had a blue doll whose resin I adored. When I saw their green resin in owner photos and promo pics it looked so pale and soft, a lovely shade of almost mint. I thought it would be perfect for a garden elf. Well, the doll shop I ordered her from didn't get around to placing their order with Bobobie for well over a month after I'd paid, and then things got bogged down at Bobobie so it was 4 months before she finally arrived. Towards the end of that time, I noticed that owner photos were suddenly displaying the green in a much different shade. In that amount of time the Bobobie green had changed tints. Well, she arrived without her Bobobie box and without her gold satin Bobobie bag, just wrapped in white paper by the doll shop and shoved into a box for a cheap vinyl doll. And as if that wasn't bad enough, when I opened the package, she wasn't the earlier soft pale green, but a rather garish deep froglike yellow green. Instead of looking like the lovely garden elf of my visions, she looked like the wicked witch of the west! I closed the box, walked straight over to my computer and put her up for sale.

    7. My experience is not about disappointment in dolls its more like I found out I'm slightly allergic to resin. :(. It's not to bad though, just makes my nose hurt and itch and sneeze a lot. I found out after I got my first doll. Now I got 8 whaaaaaaaa that didn't stop me from loving them. I just wash my face or take a shower after handling the dolls and it clears my nose up just fine.:)

    8. Lol thank you but its a Morningdew! Ravendolls did the faceup and that makes all the difference, I don't like Dim stock faceups either. All my dim dolls have been strung really well I wonder if the ebay seller restrung your flowne?

    9. I've been dissapointed a few times.....I ordered an off topic doll who was supposed to be purple, {made by bobobie but still off topic} and when she arrived she was grey...I just couldn't like her!! I wish I had seen the doll Junkets talked about, I think I would have loved a grape colored doll!!! :)

and another doll from Bobobie I ordered from Junkyspot, the dark tan Sprite, when she arrived, I fell in love with her face, but then saw scratches all around the perimeter of her head, one scratch actually where her eyebrow was, and she was covered in a white haze where they had sanded her...I was soo upset, I hadn't had a very good day as it was, and when the box arrived I didn't open it immediately and waited until I felt better about the crap that happened during the day, so I could enjoy my new doll....only find her to be the biggest disappointment!!

I posted her pics on Junkyspot and here, Emory contacted me and offer a refund, Denny {bobobie} contacted me and offered to take her back and polish her, in the end someone wanted to buy her like she was...and I sold her in a matter of an hour or two...that made me feel better but I was still sad....I realy wanted a dark tan sprite..but just didn't want to be disappointed again

    10. Oh she is! Should have recognized the sleepier eyes... :)

I am not sure if they did or not. I just knew her arms were unmanageable and it was too intimidating for me at the time to try to restring her. I do not feel as though I will purchase from DIM again, but I still admire what people do with their dolls. :)

    11. my DOT Lahoo. When I first opened him I was all OMFG HE IS SO PURTY. but they i noticed that he was only purty from certain angles. and that he had huuuuuge legs. and ugly ears. and oh, so much more :/ I guess I should've looked into him and checked out owner pics are little more before buying him.
      But all's good. He's a Miho now and I love him ^_^

    12. I was a bit disappointed with my DZ Feilian. I bought her from Junkyspot, and chose normal skin thinking it would be a nice creamy color. I was so excited, and when she came, and I opened the box, I loved her. But when she came, her skin lookde so orange and too bold, which I didn't think I could ever get used to. Then her evil brother stole her wig and I bought her a longer pink one like I had wanted to. But it just didn't fit her sophisticated personality. So, for months I took no pictures of her, because I just couldn't get her to look right. Then one day a friend suggested a wig trade: My vibrant pink wig (a big mistake) or a lovely Dollmore Hulala pink wig. The moment that new wig was securely on her head, my heart soared like the first time I saw her and I fell back in love with her. And now she's my beautiful little angel!

Also, my first doll, A Dollmore Asha, was a tiny disappointment for everyone involved. When he first came, he belonged to my best friend. He had a chunk missing out of his headcap, which has to be taped on. And his face just wasn't right for an Asha (He has Doppel Asha eyes). But we got over that. And for a couple months he was the most loved doll we knew. But then my friend just couldn't love him the same way. She was even considering selling him!! But now that Asha is mine and she loves him more now that he's in my care. I changed everything from eyes, to wig, to faceup, and she can finally see a real personality!

I'm really hoping I won't be disappointed with this next doll. We're saving up, and doing whatever we can for extra money, and would be sbdolutely heartbroken if this boy doean't turn out right. But I've got faith!

    13. I looked for months to find the right sculpt for a character of mine and settled on a Dolkot Ryu. When I got him, as beautiful as he was, he simply wasn't the character at all. Since I didn't have the extra money to just change him into some other character, I just simply had to create a sale thread after only having him for about a month. =( Sadness.

    14. I have been looking at BJDs for years and when I finally took the plunge and bought one I got a head as well.
I swore it would be perfect for Jade. I've had the head for about a week now and the more I look at it, the more it isn't Jade. It's sad because it means selling the head and trying all over again.

    15. hmm, i wouldn't say my doll itself disappointed me but when i first got him a lot of things happened that did.
first, the only pair of jeans that i had bought him, weren't fitting him correctly.
then i noticed a crack above his left knee joint. that really threw me off.
i contacted Dream of Doll and they were understanding and sent me a new thigh piece, but I was and still kind of am, a "newbie" owner, I haven't attempted to even restring him to replace the thigh yet.
then a lot of personal things happened like, my boyfriend at the time breaking up with me, and working 4-5 days a week and then all of a sudden summer was over and school started.
everything was so overwhelming i never had time to really bond with my boy until recently.
I've been trying to take him out of his box as often as I can, i love him to death really, he's sitting on my lap right now. :)

    16. I've only had a couple that really disappointed my. My first tiny, Elfdoll Min, was cute but just didn't do it for me. She ended up sleeping in her box until I sold her to someone who would love her more.
My Breakaway Bloody Valentine - bought him to turn him into a girl, and hated him on the spot. Turned out okay, since I swapped his head for the older Breakaway, and had her painted softly pretty.
My Scarlett minimee - Very pretty, but doesn't look at all like her. Too be honest, she's too mature looking for me now, so I'll probably post her in a couple of days.
Otherwise, I've been really pleased with my dolls!

    17. Souldoll Metel... I loved her when she arrived, but as time went on I found I just couldn't stand her huge feet! And she just wouldn't stand up. I loved her face and body but decided to sell her in the end. Still never replaced her.

    18. My Souldoll Hye isn't a disappointment in herself, she is just a nightmare to fit things. Her head has an 8'' circumference, so she can't wear my Soulkids' wigs (7-8) and the Dollmore wig I bought her (8-9) is huge and keeps falling off. All the clothes I have for her are enormous and I'm working so much I just don't have the time to tailor clothes for her.

Also, I haven't been able to play with her as much as I would have liked because I can't stand bald dolls and I was waiting for her wig to come so I could play with her more. I also have to be careful about when I take her out because she is a secret!

I think this is upsetting me more because I have had 'get up and go' experiences with all my other dolls, Gwen and Zee are fairly standard and will fit anything and when Enfys arrived she fitted into my Sylvanian Families dresses. Thia is the one I've actually planned and saved for, whereas the others were impulse buys, so to have her not fit wigs and clothes hurts.

    19. I've only been disappointed once luckily. Sadly, it was my first doll that did it.
I ordered a SD10 Megu after staring at pictures for months....but when I opened her box I was like 'this is it? uhhhmm' she was so boring.
I tried to love her. I took tons of pictures (which always came out flat and boring), I tried to work with her posing issues (she couldn't even sit up straight, even with stringing adjustments), tried different eyes (three pairs) different wigs (umm...8 I think?) different faceups, different styles of clothing...nothing worked.
After 2 years I gave up and sold her.

At this point I'm also a bit iffy on my toshiya minimee. Hopefully a dye job and a faceup will make me like him more..he's been a blank head on a mismatched body ever since he arrived months ago..

My other dolls have been great though. I even have another megu now (a yo-sd megu) and she's one of the cutest things around (to me at least).
My most exciting doll was my El though. I've been in love with him since he arrived over a year ago. :)

    20. Irina, my Iplehouse N. Cocori Western was supposed to come with her ears pierced, but they're not. That's the only 'disappointment' that I've had to date with my dolls... There was one outfit that I fought to win on ebay that doesn't fit Irina all that well at all, but it fits my SOOM Kyrie (unnamed yet) like a dream! So, that ended up working out quite well.

...have you tried Iplehouse wigs? Both of the ones I have are a delightful quality, and They're more in the 8.5" range. You might have better luck with them.
