Ever Been Spooked (Directly or Indirectly) By Your Doll?

Mar 1, 2007

    1. Thaaaanks...

    2. I got a bobobie genderless sprite body, and it's the only 'headless' doll I have ever had. I drew an eye on her chest and put a wig over her neck and now I'm not sure I'll get rid of her chest-eye even if I do.

    3. BJD's dont' creep me out, not even a little bit. Never have and never will. Old ugly porcelain dolls that our grandmmothers had on the other hand are creepy as hell and disgusting looking. I hate all those antique victorian style dolls with the fat faces and chubby hands and nasty, creepy little smiles and teeth. Yuck. But no, BJD's will never be scary, no matter how modded they are and if you put demonic eyes in them, they will always be pretty and harmless looking.

    4. Strangely I actually think porcelain dolls are beautiful and less life like than BJDs (aka less likely to get up and start moving on their own). I'm not talking about some of the really chubby, ugly ones but some of the gentler ones with the beautiful Victorian outfits. In fact, I think they helped pave the way for BJDs and if you ever saw some of the really old BJDs you would probably think they're a little creepy or gross too. It all depends on the individual doll I think. I can't stand the older ball jointed dolls that aren't anime/fantasy inspired. They creep me out the most.

    5. I can't say I've ever been afraid of my dolls, but one badly posed picture I took at a meet definitely creeped me out a bit... Daemian was really giving off a 'I'm going to kill you while you sleep' look

    6. that doll is awesome, even his clothes are awesome
(was that at the museum, sure looks like that clock that kept scaring me)

    7. Hahaha yea, it was one of the pics I took at the meet. And his clothes may be awesome, but that chainmail shirt took me forever!

    8. yeah but it was worth it, that doll is awesome

    9. I was always quite spooked as a child by the dolls that are baby sized, expecially the type with eyes that open/close.

I jokingly told my Kasumi not to get any *ideas*, after we both watched a ghost story about a possessed doll. But no, I am not scared by any bjd that I have seen.

    10. Oh, Goodness. Mine's kind of silly.

I must confess, I position my dolls on the desk so that they're the first thing I see in the morning, heads tilted down so that I can see them clearly~ and I had woken up in the middle of the night. The blinking light from the router paired with a 'mysterious buzzing' *I forget to turn of my ipod sometimes* disfigured their faces so much that I shut my eyes at them and hid under the sheets! *_* I feel so childish, but it made me laugh when I woke up and saw them in the morning.

Another: I had run out of Magic Eraser, so my practice head had a very faded, drippy face-up remnants. One of the eyebrows had wiped so it now looks like she's worried, and I didn't bother putting eyes in. So I put her away in the nightstand drawer with a note 'GTFO' attached, in hopes it'd scare my brother away from daring to flip the pillows over while my dolls are actually IN there. =_=" instead, I forgot I did this and scared myself looking for thread. :doh

I tend to scare myself in the worst possible ways. haha!

    11. Ever since I heard that song "Creepy doll" by Johnathan Coulton I feel uneasy when my dolls are staring right at me. I just tend to... turn them the other way.

But I just love that part:
"Now it's late and you head downstairs
Cause you just can't sleep and you make some tea
      And the doll disapprovingly asks
if you really need that much honey"

    12. I've never heard that song! I'm going to have to check it out now. That's so cool. Yeah, I'm weird like that. Things that are supposed to freak me out don't, but hand me a roach and I'll scream like there's no tomorrow.

    13. This is pretty cool. You should get the eye done professionally (if you don't know how to do that yourself that is). So you're never getting a head for it? Anyway, did you post this picture because it sometimes scares you or did you just wanna see if it freaked anyone else out? XD

    14. The only time my dolls have frightened me is when my Soom Beyla fell off my desk above me and hit me in the head. XD I didn't know what hit me until I saw her laying on my keyboard, poor thing. I don't feel like they move on their own or anything, or are creepy in the slightest.

    15. My MSD has a giant Blythe head and she always headbutts me! Your post reminded me of that haha. Sometimes it's hard to believe Leekeworld dolls (and probably other brands too) don't have a mind of their own when they're always buckling and fidgeting in your hands.

    16. I'm not afraid of my doll, just all dolls in general. I've been scared of them since I was little. I can play with them during the day but my doll always sleeps in my sister's room with her dolls.

    17. I remember being terrified of dolls and thinking they'd come alive to kill me when I was little! I blame horror movies with killer dolls and the Chucky movies (the latter of which I find funny nowadays that I've actually seen them. ) I do still find some dolls to be quite scary - particularly antique dolls. I saw some a few days ago that just left me with an unsettling feeling.

Afraid of my own dolls? Not in the least. I should hope that if by some ridiculous occurrence they did come alive they wouldn't kill me - I "spoil" them to much! :XD:

    18. What was the reason you bought your doll if you're afraid of dolls in general? What kinda doll do you have? They must be really pretty or unique if you put your fear aside to get them ^^

I originally wasn't afraid of any dolls (not even the antique ones). I even used to own a small/unrealistic horror inspired clown doll covered in blood years ago (I swear she was adorable in her own way XD). Then I got my BJDs. I love them all! But now people started purposely telling me horror stories to make me nervous around them. Since my dolls are so detailed and big, the stories can get to me sometimes. It's funner to scare closed minded people with them instead though XD It's surprisingly easy even though all my dolls are pretty and innocent looking (not inspired by horror at all!)

    19. The only time I'm ever remotely creeped out by my dolls is when their heads are tilted waaay far up so they have that hideous up-the nostril angle with their seemingly wider eyes staring me in the face or when their eyes are set dead-center so they look like dead fish. There's just something about unnaturally wide eyes that gives me the creeps.

    20. I've only ever been afraid of my dolls once. My Euclase stands in front of the doll shelf, a little ways away from it, and one night I woke up from a bad dream, looked over, and saw this small man with frightening bird feet staring at me. It scared the hell out of me until I realized it was just Asar. I think I can blame the fear more on the nightmare I had when I woke up as opposed to a fear of the doll himself.
