Ever Been Spooked (Directly or Indirectly) By Your Doll?

Mar 1, 2007

    1. I've always loved dolls, and no amount of creepy-ness can scare me. My Living Dead Dolls (nine of them) stand on the top of my bookshelf, and they're facing my bed. All of them are creepy, but I have the Eleanor doll, and she's scary. But they stilld don't creep me out.
      I even have Luna's bed on top of the TV, (I sleep with a TV on) so it's the main focus of my vision when I wake up. She doesn't scare me at all; she's my precious dolly, and I love her. Plus, how can she bring harm to me when I buy her so many pretty things, and say sweet things to her?

    2. I'm not scared of my own dolls (though Saif can look pretty diabolical sometimes... though at the rate I spoil him, he better be plotting revenge on my behalf rather than on me), though some other BJDs creep me out a little, they're pretty, but some of the horror-themed dolls scare me. :< Against my better judgment I'm easily scared by horror things, even if I know it's really stupid like a horror movie with lousy SFX.

    3. I think baby-dolls are scary. But not BJDs :)

    4. I had nightmares about two of them, and though they shook me up quite a bit, I spent time with them and eventually the terror that my dreams inflicted faded away. Sometimes I'll get a little unnerved when I'm watching a horror movie with dolls in them, but usually my dolls are my "security blanket" during those times anyway, so my discomfort cancels out within a matter of minutes. Other than that..no, I've never been afraid of them. They console me more than they frighten me.

    5. The only nightmare I had about a doll was that a company shipped the wrong head to me, it wasn't pretty at all, but then I came to the conclusion it was a present from them for taking so long with my head XD;

      But im not afraid of my dolls at all, they all sleep on my bed with my plushies :3 One of my boy's has glow in the dark eyes which everyone else thinks it creepy but when I see them glowing at night, it makes me happy XD Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and i'll make sure my boys are there and when I do, it comforts me.

    6. Nope, not afraid of dolls at all - they're just nice happy little inanimate objects :D Only dolls that wig me out are reborn dolls - they're just too realistic.

    7. I think this is a very interesting question!

      I used to have porcelain dolls that one of my aunts would give me. They really spooked me sometimes, and for this reason I was concerned about having a bjd.

      Occasionally, I have been a little uneasy with my resin dolls: The first time I was really, truly disturbed was after I had finished my first face-up. I think that technically, it was not bad for a first attempt, but something about the kind of character it suggested just... was scary. From a distance, his face looked like a skull.

      The other times I have felt uncomfortable around my dolls have almost all been because I wasn't happy with their eyes. One does feel a presence with these dolls, and I think that a lot of that presence comes from their eyes.

      My friend said that she thinks she would be too disturbed to have a bjd 'staring' at her. From the porcelain dolls that I had as a child, I can understand. But I wasn't allowed to play with those porcelain girls; I had no idea who they were. With my bjds, I know them well, and therein lies the difference: once I've got the dolls mostly 'right,' these are characters whose company I enjoy.

    8. I'm not scared of my dolls either ^^
      They are sitting on my shelf at the end of my bed.. My two boys and my 4 living dead dolls out of the box.
      My friends want them burried away if they sleep over and I'm fine with that.. but they don's scare me ^^
      Not one type of doll scares me.. not even porcelain..
      but HECK Reborn's freak me out!!! O______O;;;;
      I can have nightmares about those >______________<;;;;

    9. No, why on earth would I be afraid of a doll that I just spent money on? In that case, good riddance to it.

    10. Though my CP Luwen can give me the willies sometimes because of his huge eyes, I've never been afraid of my dolls. As they are inanimate, there's really no reason to be afraid of them, and the times I've been spooked have only been because of how they looked at the time. All I have to do is move them and they're fine again!

    11. I think at some point in my life I've had a phobia of pretty much everything silly. Hell, my boyfriend got me watching The Walking Dead and now I'm scared to be outside in the dark in case zombies converge on me. Not wetting-pants terrified mind, just very uncomfortable; enough to make me jog to the front door when I get home from work.

      Dolls are one thing I've never been afraid of. I had porcelain clown dolls given to me as a kid, my nan collected child-like porcelain dolls so we had a few floating around (still do at mums place). Naturally bjds don't freak me out in the slightest. I'm sure if I left a doll where I could see it at one of the random times I wake up in the night, I'd be a little creeped out, but that's easy fixed by tossing a cloth over it or moving it elsewhere.

      Baby dolls and reborn dolls on the other hand...scare the hell out of me. Especially the ones that open their eyes if you lift them at the right angle... :shudder
      For some reason alot of the Minimee dolls creep me right out. It might be the close-to photo realism that gives me the heebie-jeebies or something else, I really cant say. :sweat

    12. I never be afraid of my own dolls. They're cute and adorable, they always be my friends when I'm getting alone and need someone to be by my side. Somebody asked me if someday my dolls are alive, what should I do? I suddenly answered them that I'll be very happy and I'll play with them a lot. Imagine that you're walking and have someone small shape like tiny or Yosd fallow you behind your back and keep calling your name to hold him/her. It'll be really nice, isn't it?

    13. Im not really afraid of them at all but once I put this certain pair of eyes in my doll and man it looked real creepy. I never used those eyes on them again lol.

    14. For the most part, no; I'm quite comfortable around my dolls and they don't freak me out at all. The only exception was a vampire elf Yder head that was bodiless at the time; I had a nightmare in which it started flying after me (flapping its ears like wings) and the face contorted into an evil little monster as it came at me, trying to bite me - rather pennangalan-like! It was rather unnerving, and I didn't feel entirely easy around the head after that and ended up selling it. But I'd had problems bonding with that head ever since I got it, so i think that was more my own subconscious misgivings coming into play.

    15. Exclusively at night. ^^; I can't leave them sitting out or they make me nervous. Like... I'm scared of them moving on their own or something. xD
      I've also tricked myself into believing I heard a really creepy, implike laugh from them. Of course I didn't hear it, but I start imagining what it would sound like and I get majorly freaked out.
      I also can't leave them out when I change clothes. >.> I feel like they're staring at me...

    16. Dolls scare me too. Heck, even Barbies are starting to freak me out. With most dolls scaring me, and even some BJDs scaring me, you wonder what I'm doing in the hobby.

      But the ones I like all have soothing and not scary looks to them - realistic, you could say. So then I don't get scared.

    17. I think the only doll that ever creeped me out was a Slit Mouthed Woman mod. It was odd and slightly disturbing but only for a second.

    18. Once, I had my doll sleeping on the beside table next to me and halfway through the night I thought she fell off as I heard something like the beads on her clothing dropping on the floor (it was actually my jacket >.>) and I just couldn't sleep but I didn't want to get up either. It gave me a big fright though. o.O

      The other day, I clearly remembered that I put my dollie on my TV table (the table where we put the TV) and I didn't touch her for the whole day. When I finally went to get her, she was nowhere to be found. I thought she creeped out on her own (without a head!) but she was actually in my bookshelf hidden behind a calendar. I had put her there earlier in the morning to prevent yellowing >.>

      But yeah, pretty lame events built upon my own mistakes.

    19. my sister is swearing that she see him move often O.o like ah he´s looking to the right and on the next gaze he looks straight to her XDDD This kinda cracks me up xDD <3

      she even dreamed about him doing stuff and when i walk him he was like ~lala i´m just a doll and i dont move ~o° XDDD

      I would pay a lot more if bjds would move xD

    20. I've only had one incident happen with my doll. I had her laying down in her box for the night to sleep when I first got her, and when I woke up in the morning she was sitting up and looking at me. She wasn't strung tightly so I doubt she was 'jolted' out of her laying position, and nobody else was in the house since my parents were on vacation, I was alone, and I didn't have pets. Creeped me out a little. I still feel like she watches me when I'm not looking, but I have a feeling that it's out of curiosity, not hate and evil and creepiness.

      I too, like most people on this forum, thread, or in the world even, have had REALLY bad vibes from porcelain dolls. Really horrifying experiences, and nightmares followed. I just....can't stand them.
      They feel alive, just like my bjd does, but not in the good "you gave me life and I love you way". It's more of a "living dead" way and scares the crap out of me.
