Ever Been Spooked (Directly or Indirectly) By Your Doll?

Mar 1, 2007

    1. I wasn't truly 'creeped out' when this happened, but it did startle me for a second because I wasn't expecting it. I have crazily bright glow-in-the-dark eyes in my Weylin, but they need to be charged before they glow of course, so usually I don't even notice/remember that they do that.

We were on a road trip, we'd been driving for fourteen hours straight, and it was almost 10 pm. I was very sleepy. I was thinking I'd lie back and sleep for a while when I heard a creaking/squeaking noise behind me and twisted around to figure out what it was. (The dolls were all nestled on a bed of pillows on top of the suitcases behind my seat.) My first thought was that Lysander's leg was flopping around, though now I'm not sure why that immediately came to mind. He was the closest doll to my seat, but he was turned away from me.
I dug around blindly for a second and figured out the noise was an empty chip bag someone had tossed up there (jerks! xD) but after crunching it up and shoving it in a bag, on a whim, I rolled Lysander over.

BAM! Brightest, most intense blue globes gazing back at me. So vibrant, they illuminated part of his face and hair. I was so surprised I almost dropped him. I started to laugh then, after the initial *gasp!* but I'm still not sure why his eyes were glowing so brightly. The sun had already been down for several hours and the car was dark. o_O

      Guess I'll never know.

    2. Avalon just spooked me a little...I looked at him and I thought he looked like he was about to cry...Then I swear his eyes glanced over to me....

I sighed and picked him up and said: "Okay fine I'll give you a cuddle and you can sit closer to me." And now he looks much more content...My needy boy.

    3. I very often turn one of my doll's heads and freak myself out with it. It's kinda pathetic actually xD because I KNOW I'm doing it.

    4. Funny enough, even though some of my dolls depict rather scary characters, and I do find them in positions different from those I put them into sometimes, I never get spooked by them. It is rather the contrary - if I feel spooked by anything else (like random sounds in the house or such), I sometimes grab one of my dolls for comfort xD

    5. My dolls sit on the headboard of my bed, and the other night my head must have knocked against my SD boy's legs, and he fell on top of me... it freaked me out a bit. *_*

    6. Avalon...Has oddly enough ever since that night has failed to ever make me feel even the slightest bit creeped out. He is lack of a better word a total dork character wise and his doll form shows it.

If he suddenly kicks out or looks like he's watching me I just brush it off as "Avalon." and go about my business....

    7. A couple of weeks ago I had several of my tinies out for cleaning/magnet gluing/customizing & other random stuff. I keep them in their padded bags/pillows in vintage wood cigar boxes (no tobacco smell, just nicely aged wood with vintage clasps). I had packed up the finished ones back into the box, and gone to bed. I wake up during the night to what sounds like...scratching...from inside a box. Just as I talk myself down - the dog stands up and starts staring at the boxes. Eeeeeeeeppppppp!!!!!

Still don't know what it really was - something in the wall, or something at the window, or if Hellena just *really* wanted back out...

    8. This is a funny yet slightly creepy story.

My mother in law bought my husband and I a cute wooden bench to refurbish for our dolls. Since we got it we have posed our dolls in numerous ways for ideas and what-have-you. One time my husband's doll Casper was cuddling with Dionne on the bench. They had been for a few hours. We left our room for whatever reason and when we came back Casper had fallen back and looked like he was trying to kick Dionne in the face while Dionne had thrown his hands up to protect himself. Obviously it had something to do with the fact they are both strung very tightly with new string, but creepy none-the-less.

Other then that I could swear I have seen his other doll, Tuesday, move it's head and hands multiple times. I don't think he believes me, but I know I'm not crazy. lol

    9. I was in my room with no lights on except the light from my iPhone screen...I forgot Luna was on my bed and all I saw was her shadowy profile from my phone light and I jumped! Haha

    10. Yes. My doll came with a set of eyes that I wasn't expecting. They're milky white with small, blue irises and no pupil. I put her up on my shelf to be safe. One day, when she was newer and I forgot that I had her, there she was, just staring at me with those eyes. I wasn't expecting it, and it did startle me a little. :hamster:

    11. I'm not sure about spooked, but all of my dolls have a tendency to move on their own, probably due to my lack of stringing tension prowess. Seraphine kicks me if I try to put her in pants, Cesavier constantly falls forward at me with his arms wide open and Neeko has this habit of slumping forward and his jointed hands getting in, ah, unpolite positions.

    12. Not me. But I have a good fried who is pretty scared of all my dolls. Once he stayed overnight and when I switched off the light he was super scared by the glowing eyes of my vampire dolls^^

    13. Omg, that would have freaked me out! ; 3;
I haven't been freaked out by my dolls yet, but there is still time! haha

    14. I haven't been freaked out but my YOSD did weird my cat out. Her head has a habit of turning to the side by itself and I picked her up to show the cat her new wig (because he clearly gives a damn what my doll is wearing) and her head turned to look at him on its own. He looked seriously freaked out that my inanimate object moved by itself and now he gives her a wide berth.

    15. Glow in the dark eyes sounds like the most awesome thing ever! Where on earth did you get them from? :o

    16. Not myself, but I've used my dolls to spook my little sister haha. It was right after we watched Dead Silence (you know, the one where the woman murders children and turns them into dolls to play with), and before my sister went to bed, I took all of my antique porcelain dolls (8 in total) and put them on her bed. The creepiest one is my mother's from the seventies, and I wound it up and had it play music when my sister entered her room. Needless to say she darn near screamed her head off and wouldn't go to bed until I had removed them all. I still giggle thinking about it. I've never used a BJD for that purpose though, they're far too pretty to scare anyone in my household.

    17. I haven't really been freaked out by my dolls yet but every once in a while they will catch me off guard when I forget one is sitting somewhere. I'll just catch a profile out of the corner of my eye and for just a split second wonder what in the world is there. Then I realize it's just one of my girls hanging around haha.

    18. I can't continue to read this thread. *is creeped out* doesn't take much for me lol

    19. Never been spooked by my dolls! Closest thing would be freaking out when they've almost taken some falls.

    20. I've had doll heads move from the position they were set in. Like, I didn't see it happen so it could easily have been a family member trying to freak me out.. but this one time, my SD girl who used to stay on my desk back home, was casually sitting on her swing. I noticed her hair had been moved - like instead of being all back behind her shoulders, there was a section pulled forward. I was immediately creeped out because my mum - who is the one most likely to do something like that - was actually in Spain at the time and my dad would never come in my room without my permission, let alone touch one of the dolls xD

There have been times too when my mum was fitting someone for a dress and the arms have just moved on their own due to elastic tension, and my mum would get such a fright xD
