1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ever feel the need to "adopt" dolls for sale in the marketplace?

Apr 10, 2006

    1. thats how it kinda was for the Dollzone fox i just got. I saw him before chritmas he was a good fair price and the poor thing was looked over. I kept going to the thread and staring at the cute little face so after christmas I just sucked it up and was like that cutey is mine LOL. I am about to make my last payment on him and have a cute pet for my doll to love

    2. all the time!!! if i actually did buy all the ones i saw, id own a million "preloved" dolls and be broke and homeless. but i feel so sorry for some of them, especially if theyre already on their second, third, forth owner. and even more especially when i see one i already own and love to death up for sale. im like "nuuuuuuuuu! how could someone not love you like i do!" *grabbyhands*

but do i really need another Sapphira or Kara?? no. :|

      *grabbyhands*

    3. yes!yes! all the time. I really want to buy some but haven't yet because I want my very first bjd to have a k doll head so I'm waiting.

    4. There's one on there right now I'd LOVE to have, but I just can't afford him right now. His pictures look like "bring me home, please?"

    5. I've never felt like that... for any doll other than mine^^; So far I've sold one doll, one other is up for sale and in both cases there were moments when I thought "if no one buys you by xx xx, I am going to keep you and love you!". The dolls in the market place are just dolls for me (although I may have to reconsidar this, if I ever saw an unloved Ushiwakamaru:'D), but the dolls that have spend some time with me... I feel bad for selling them, but I know I will get this idea over and over since they really don't fit in my doll family:/ When my first doll was bought and I was packing her, I was feeling really sorry, even thought I've never played with that one (Christmas Event gift). Eh, I am one of those people who as a kid had to give a goodnight kiss to *every* of their plushies so none would be sad D:

    6. Eventually, due to my "noob" status, I will be gladly adopting from the Marketplace...I can't wait!!! I love fixer-upper everythings, too!!! There is great satisfaction in de-boxing, and setting free these lovelies!

    7. Once I get access to the marketplace, I suspect I'll really want to adopt so many dolls for sale. :sweat I guess it's a good thing for my wallet that I don't have access yet!

    8. Hmm i loves the DoA marketplace <33
I got my Clavis last month and i absolutely love him to bits xDD

      Clavis: ¬.¬lll

    9. I have a very similar problem. I'm like that with animals too. I have three dogs. My puppy, Skeeter, I adopted in feb. from MARS (Midwest Animal Rescue Society) He was living in a puppy mill in missouri. We also have Gretta, a mutt we rescued from another puppy mill. She had two liters before we got her. :(
I guess, the attatchment is the same with dolls. People have trouble with bonding with theirs or whatever it may be and there's just this need to help the person and give the doll a new home. It's odd comparing dolls to dogs, I know, but the connection makes sense in my head...

    10. Sometimes I see a doll that has such a bad face-up and the worst taste in clothing/wig/shoes that I feel like buying it just to fix it up because I can see it's got so much potential.
But as for "adopting", not really. It's just the artist in me that feels like making everything beautiful. ^^"

    11. Have you ever seen a doll for sale with such a bad face-up that you wanted to purchase the doll just to scrub it clean and/or redo it? Even if you didn't like the sculpt? Have you ever actually done that? If so, what happened to the doll - did you keep it or rehome it?

I saw one the other day elsewhere on the web that.. man. The face-up was horrid and looked as though it had been done with wax crayon. I pointed my art student friend at it and she's now thinking of buying the doll just to rescue it. I'm half tempted to put up half the cost of the doll, if it's still there after payday, just so she can.

    12. I actually had someone approach me about one of my girls with a factory face-up offering to re-do. Since I was somewhat new to this aspect of BJDs, I was afraid. I hesitated, but in the end I sent out my 2 girls. She "rescued" the girls and created my two signature girls. She only asked me for the shipping fees. I never realized that the factory face-ups were in need of asistance. AnnMarie

    13. Sort of. It's the curiosity of thinking, that would be nice to paint, but I do that with about 80% of every doll I see.

    14. I've thought about it sometimes, but alas, I haven't got the money for it. XD And I'm not *that* great at faceups anyway, though certainly better than I used to be!

    15. I haven't seen any yet, although there are a few with blank faces I just want to give some love=)
      If I did get a doll with a bad face-up,I'd probably ask for help with re-doing it,as I've never done a face-up before.I don't think I'd ever re-home a doll,just becuase of the face-up though.

    16. I wouldn't spend money for a doll just to rescue it, but I remember a certain case where I felt with the dolls, because of the face-ups that the owner gave them - and the thing is that this owner was extremely complacent about how she/he painted them.

I only did one face-up until now and I am very aware that I have much to learn until I'll be happy with the result. That's why I always state that it's my first try and that I'd like to improve my skills. I think, it makes a difference, if somebody is willing to learn instead of praising oneself, refusing to see obvious flaws.

    17. No. I've seen quite a lot of terrible faceups, but i've never wanted to interfere with the owner's decision. Maybe the owner is just terrible at making faceups (and in this case one should remember that doing something is the best way to learn)
or it was an accident or else, it is not my business. As long as the owner likes the doll, it's fine.

    18. Heheh only my OWN faceups ^^ but then of course I already owned the doll. It's like with any artistic activity- even if you thought it was pretty good at first, after a while you see the flaws and then it seems you can't help but re-do them!

    19. hehe I agree with Harlequin-Elle, just my own face-ups.. XD

    20. erm.. Let me clarify: A doll that's already for sale, that comes with such a bad face-up that you want to take it home and fix it. Not someone's doll that they clearly cherish.
