1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ever feel the need to "adopt" dolls for sale in the marketplace?

Apr 10, 2006

    1. I would never BUY a doll just to do the faceup unless I wanted that sculpt for my family. But I have messaged acquaintences about doing their kids' faces (omitting the fact that it's because I know I can do better) and I think I've done a smashing job on whom I've painted so far. The happiness of the recipient is worth it. I don't take commissions because I'm never a punctual person, and I don't have ability to get to the post routinely, which is why rescuing dolls for free is much more convenient than buying something or opening a commissions...

But definitely, rescuing dolls has a similar effect like rescuing animals haha

EDIT: To answer the question more, I have felt the desire to buy poorly-painted dolls before. Oh, so strong. But again, I reiterate, I would never actually buy the doll unless it was a sculpt that may fit into the family. Even if I were to paint a beautiful faceup on the head I would supposedly buy, that doesn't really increase the market price of the doll head, so there's nothing really getting accomplished there other than ultimately losing time and money.

    2. O, Yes, I recently almost did this with a Pomello in the market place. It had a hideous face-up and was going for a ridicoulous cheap price. Someone else got her just a little bit before my offer.

    3. Sometimes I can't help but cringe at the really awful face ups. I always think "jeez what did the doll do to deserve THAT?" but there's not much I can do about it. Haha.

    4. On the other hand, when looking around on DOA, i also have had a lot of "OMG, ive never liked this sculpt but with this face-up it's so incredably beautifull" -experience.

    5. I suppose that's what I did with my MD Ryu. I was planning on getting an Elfdoll Wu for his character, but I've always loved the Ryu sculpt, and saw him in the marketplace with a faceup I liked and just happened to have enough money, so I brought him home in place of a Wu. :) There's definitely been other times where I've wanted to bring other dolls home that were for sale, but I have to restrain myself! ><

    6. This happens to me every day. I feel that EVERY dollie deserves a good home where he or she will be loved and well-cared for.

    7. personnally, i prefer to have my doll new. i feel its easier to bound with it.
when i buy a doll second hand im like ''hes already someone.'' so giving him a new caracter doesnt feel right for me Ô_o and so, hes not really MY baby i feel.

    8. Thats how I got my two heads...:sweat

I got them because of the 'omg its so cool and cute and and i must have it!' reasoning. Hehe. If I had more cash I'd adopt a lot of dolls from the marketplace.:)

    9. x: Yes, I do. All the time.
=____=) It kinda makes me wanna try for the lotto. Or call dibs on them and be on 'forever layaway' |D"

    10. No, not really. If it's a sculpt I'm dying for and have plans for, I will snap it up. XD But I'm not much of a rescuer unless I'm looking for that specific doll/and or parts. :)

    11. I'm not much of a rescuer, either. I generally prefer new, and only buy the things I really want.

    12. I have done this twice. I bought a Devlin that I watched for MONTHS not sell, and I must say that I LOVE him! I'm glad I adopted him when no one else cared enough to follow through with a purchase or trade for him. I also did it with a light tan Lan friday night. I'm now waiting for her to be shipped. I wanted a light tan Resinsoul body anyway...I hadn't planned on a Lan head though...but now that I've bought her, I can't wait! I plan to put her head on a male body, once I get an An in light tan. I like adopting the 'unwanted' just as much as I like getting ones I want but don't find on the secondhand market in a condition I want when I'm ready for them.

    13. Not in the marketplace, but when there are dolls who don't get snapped up at Volks events I have a strong urge to "rescue" them ^^;.

    14. Sometimes I feel like "rescuing," but never enough to actually do so. n_n But I can understand why some people might prefer it and others wouldn't.

    15. Three of my eight dolls were bought all or in part on the Marketplace. One was definitely a project doll, with the head and body bought separately. I enjoyed working on her so much that I would definitely be up for another rescue dolly.

    16. II did that with Sarah Hinaichigo, I wasn't really interested ($300 price tag!) she was a lovely looking doll and when the lady said she was gonna wipe the face and such I felt "well...I think I should get her, no harm, she is a lovely doll"
so...thats how I got my second doll
Clover was just "omg cute must have must have-great price, must have!"

    17. Oh god.

Currently have 2 dolls that were emergency sales that i bought x3 because "omg how sad i NEED those dolls!" so me and hubbeh bought them... have fallen head over heels for both x3 even though they were sculpts we never really looked at before~

Also have a heavily modded SOOM Ai head on the way because i was DYING to fix her up ^D^ and own a DZ shoyo head that was sold to me as a "junk head" xD

All of them have been fixed and loved by myself and i enjoy doing it. I think my hubby and me could learn to love any sculpt after putting the time into fixing them back to a wonderful state of glory ^D^

    18. Oh my, yes. Every time I see an Elfdoll K up for sale in the MP, I want to adopt him.

    19. Not really. I suppose if I could afford to have more dolls, perhaps I might. Who knows.

    20. Ah man. The marketplace is a dangerous place for me >> I feel so compelled. But... I've managed to only buy one head so far! It's been so close a couple of times, though. Even if I don't love the sculpt. It's especially hard if it's a "good deal."
