It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Ever feel the need to "adopt" dolls for sale in the marketplace?

Apr 10, 2006

    1. :( yes. Every time I see a doll for sale which is one I already own I feel the need to adopt them. Im not sure why but it just comes over me!

    2. Most of my current crew is 2nd hand off the market place. They were dolls up for sale for a long time and I like giving them home. There another one I want right now but just don't have money for.

    3. I currently do not own any second hand dolls yet, however hopefully I'll soon have my first second hand. I would only buy a doll if it's on my wish list second hand. I dunno, I'm really picky about what I want I guess?

    4. I am sucker for 'bait' dolls that need TLC. I started with Blythe and some of the poor souls I bought were ready for the bin! I love taking an unwanted doll and spending time on her until she becomes a piece of loveliness that someone else cannot resist. I am having trouble on here when I see all the lovely dolls not going to new homes. My first BJD is to be a minifee des with an altered body that I plan to work on. I am so excited (and nervous) to have a go at resurrecting resin!

Luckily I have a small income, or I'd be buried in dolls!

    5. absolutely... im struggling with wanting to order the last zuzu delf frise because shes been the last one for sale for over a year. part of me is going "she needs me!:<" while the other part is saying to wait for the OE version that i really want...

    6. All the timeee. I get suckered in so easily. Luckily, my lack of money keeps me from not buying every doll out there. I mean really...

    7. Even though dolls aren't actually alive, it's really fun to pretend they are!

I think it's great that there are people browsing the marketplace that would love to give resin kids a good home! There are lots of owners that give up their beloved dolls do to financial reasons, and so Im sure they wanna make sure they have a good home.

I dunno if it's temptation or adorable faces. But I always seems to find a few dolls that really jump out at me and I wanna be their owner SO BAD. When I am more financially stable I'll probably pick up a few new kids here! That's how I got my sweet girl Freya! She just called out to me...I literately came back to the sales thread over and over, and decided to go for it! ;)

    8. i wish ~ >.< if only me have money TT__TT

    9. It does pain my heart to see dolls being sold because they are no longer wanted, but unfortunately I have to eat and it's not worth spending hundreds/thousands of dollars on a doll I might not like.

But I am happy when they are able to join a good home.

    10. I have recently adopted :) Little Fee and Sweet Pea :) My girls are gorgeous and I am going to look after them and spoil them :) I always look on Flickr at the dolls for adoption some of them have such lonely faces, just want to take them home and look after them :aheartbea

    11. I have this tendency too! I check the dolls MP every day too. Usually I hunt for the dolls that are on my list, so that at least I can give them a good home instead of ordering a new one. I try to avoid adopting anyone I don't really want, because then I'd have just transferred them from one lonely home to another. :(

    12. my first doll was bought from a doll store that was closing, i loved the feeling of having a 'new' doll. though now i keep on falling in love with 2nd hand dolls. i am adopting a yosd soon, a luts head too. my 2nd doll i received the body for free! and am buying the head from someone within the local doll community.

    13. Absolutely. I don't have marketplace access yet, but I feel it a lot in an adoption group I'm in at another place. If they look like they could use love, the seller says they couldn't bond, a head's a little yellow- I want help! XD

    14. Yes, this is especially true for head sculpts beacuse they are cheaper and easier to justify spending the money than for a full doll. I also love adopting secondhand dolls because I like seeing their history and what the previous owner has done. They just feel more special to me.

    15. No. These are dolls to me, and I feel no need to 'adopt' them. It's not like they are puppies or kittens waiting for a home in a shelter.

If I see a scuplt on the MP that I like, I only want to buy it because I want that doll for my collection, and nothing more. The doll becomes special, and warrants more emotion once it is mine. Until then, it is just another hunk of lovely plastic that I shall admire from afar.

    16. I think buying secondhand can be more "special" than buying new because the doll has a history. I am tempted to buy dolls that are older or have imperfections because I feel like that's a part of their "character" and make them unique. But I always remind myself that I have to be smart about it and not let my emotions get the better of me when money is involved. I try to find the best deal possible and think about resell value, etc.

    17. I am so glad to see this topic! My answer is yes, I actually just completed a layaway for a BBB Rachel. I love giving unwanted or even broken things new life. The broken ones especially catch my attention for the broken ones I feel that it wasn't their fault that they where mishandled, so I don't shun the special-needs dolls for their (what could turn out to be) unique quality. Broken limb? I see the possibility of a bionic appendage, a cast or an amputee, and poof suddenly interesting back story. I definitely intend to adopt more this way. :)

    18. I can certainly respect this. People buying damaged dolls as project dolls, restoring them or even making them something totally different is awesome to me.

Sadly, I am not good when it comes to projects, so I couldn't really do this :sweat

    19. I have to fight with myself ( to stop myself from buying) every time I see a doll who lingers on the MP for what seems like a long time. Even if I'm not fond of him/her. Even if they're damaged. It bothers me to think they're unloved/unwanted. I recognize they are just dolls but it hurts my heart to see one for sale and then reduced in price a couple of times. I know that sometimes people need funds or are leaving the hobby or have to sell them for a myriad of reasons and those that go reasonably quickly don't bother me.

Does anyone else feel the need to "rescue" dolls they see?

    20. You know, I find it interesting that you post this topic, because this very thing happened. Normally, it doesn't bother me much. But there is one particular doll that has been for sale for quite a while that just won't sell for some reason. And I feel bad for the doll and for the owner. The doll is gorgeous, and has a really nice and unique faceup, and the price is extremely reasonable. I thought about buying her a couple times, but other dolls won out. I literally almost wanted to message the seller saying don't give up, because she really is cute, please don't be discouraged ;c But I thought it might seem weird, so I didn't.

This particular doll is the only one I've ever felt that towards. I've considered again buying her just for that reason, but I quickly realized that's not a good idea. I am usually always happy if I buy a doll because I love it, not because I feel bad for it/its' owner.
