Ever have that character that just seems impossible to shell?

I can't seem to find anything that works for my "short" OC.... The only doll I have that would go in his group is about 65cm, but there aren't many boy sculpts under that without being significantly slimmer.... so I'm not sure if I'll come across anything

 

I'm having trouble shelling out my OTP (Nano and Akira from Togainu no Chi) in part because Akira is a tough, well-built street fighter but he's only 5'6. Meanwhile Nano is 5'10, but kind of a skinny bookworm, who is more slender and graceful. Alas, in trying to find two bodies that work together, the more muscular bodies are always taller than the slimmer bodies. So frustrating!

 

There's one character I've had for years and years and I doubt I'll ever shell him. I recently realized that it's because he's so expressive that he just wouldn't look right as a doll with one face.

 

I don't know if this will be of any help, but have you looked at Iplehouse's SID line? The Model SID Man body is both taller and more slender/less muscular than the Muscle version (example photos shown here, but you need to be a member to access it). Be warned that the muscle version's joints haven't been updated yet, though, so it still has posing issues.

 

My OC Emory has been impossible to shell. In my mind he has a very particular kind of face, a soft teenager style face with slightly down-turned eyes and a soft smile. I've not yet found anything where the eyes aren't too down-turned or the face is too neutral, for whatever reason the smile is very important to me. Maybe one day someone will sculpt something, else I'll have to learn to do it myself!

I have a character that I think I could shell with a lot of time and effort, but it's the fact that it'd take a lot of time and effort is the problem. I'd have to take a base doll and sculpt on horns and a few other details, which I'm not at all confident or comfortable doing. On top of it I'd have to dye the entire body and face red which is equally as terrifying.

 

I ended up shelling Tianzhu as a Mystic Kids Chris - so a complete left-field choice - and now I have a new Impossible character: Saito Hajime, based off the historical character of the same name. I've a couple tentative sculpts chosen, but none of them have really clicked with me. Which means it'll probably be a more expensive company that I haven't looked at yet. Why couldn't you be an Impl or AoD like your teammates?!

Also, zero guarantees I'll actually buy them, but since I got their little brother I've been looking for dolls to shell as Kousetsu and Souza from Touken Ranbu. That series is harder to find dolls for than it looks!

 

I have a lot of characters that I would love to shell, but wouldn't work out for many reasons. Some are just to ambitious, while others are to expensive right now. To many characters in my stories to shell!

 

Yes, almost all of them. My actual OCs are mostly older, heavier, and far less idealized-looking than BJDs. I realized long ago that while I love my original characters and I love these dolls, it doesn't do well for me to mix the two.

 

i have one character that i want to shell so badly but even though theres a lot that i feel could work none of them really click right? im thinking of shelling her in my rap1993 danni but im still unsure :/

Guilty! Having troubles as well.
Glad to hear I'm not alone as one of my character's faces make me want to headesk every time he comes up in my free time of searching. I actually found a head too a year back but it ended up being a OOAK Woops.
So I have a feeling I'm going to have to do a huge profile sheet for his head and just ask around as well as continue my search.

I had at least 5 different dolls be my character Saskia at one point in time.
She has to be short, look good next to an Iplehouse EID guy and look on the younger side of 25.
I dream that one day I will be able to find a sculpt that would be great for her!

 

My OC Sable has been 4 different dolls, she is currently a Supia Heeji, have yet to paint her or take a picture of her, which I will do soon weather pending....she has been the most difficult one to shell, and just when I think I am done and happy with her. another new face fits what I am looking for. Hopefully with Supia I am done.

 

Oh yeah, there is one and I tried to make most of my dolls fit this character but the dolls ended up being someone else. I kind of gave up but also, I still hope to find the right doll for this character. He has specific hair and eye color and those ones have been hard to find. His face is also very important. I think I should try to sculpt myself so I can finally have him exactly how I want him. The thing is, I don't know if he should lean mote towards realistic face or anime face.

 

Oh boy, there's this ONE particular character who's so vital to my already-shelled-out doll characters in all their incarnations (even if only in the backdrop), but I don't know if I could even feasibly shell. Tarōzaemon is the adoptive father of my primary male doll, Guórén/Jinsuke, and thus one can also call him the father-in-law of my primary girl, Adhara/Kaguya, and the paternal grandfather of their twins, Kokiden and Kokichi. Finding a sculpt that could work as an aging man still capable of dishing out sizeable damage (physical and intrigue-wise) is causing me so much trouble!

 

I had one character I was wanting for ages, but I had so many sculpts I was debating between that I couldn't narrow it down. Was randomly looking through the marketplace just for fun the other day and happened upon a Luts event head whose faceup was absolutely perfect for him!

Now that I've got the head, I have to decide on a body though...
