Face up or no face up???

Sep 23, 2008

    1. i prefer not even second hand. cause i like doing my own. if it has one, i usually wipe it. i have one with a default but it's cause it's limited and i got him because i liked the faceup.

    2. When I order from companies, I usually go with the faceup, unless it's something I know I couldn't stand.

If I buy on the marketplace, I just go for whatever's there, and wipe it later if I find it too horrible. (Which has only happened once so far.)

    3. I have ordered all my dolls without face-up, because I do their face-ups myself.

With my first doll, I was kinda disapointed when she arrived. But I noticed that a face-up changes a lot! So now when a doll without face-up arrives, I don't feel that disapointed anymore because I know they'll be pretty when they'll have their face-up. :)

    4. So far I've only ordered one doll, and I've ordered him with no faceup. I didn't like the company faceup and I feel that he would feel so much more mine if it were me who did his faceup.

    5. I ordered my first doll without a faceup because I wanted to see how he looked like without it and because I wanted to do it myself. It wasn't disappointing at all. However, I may get a company faceup for the next doll I buy, just to see how a professional faceup looks like :sweat

    6. LOL great comments! something not right about no eyebrows!
But it is about 50 - 50 at the moment!

    7. For me, it depends on the doll and what faceup it would have if I got it from the company.

    8. I definitely prefer to get a doll blank and do the faceup myself. Not only does it help with bonding, as several people have mentioned, but I'm very picky about faceups being exactly what I want, and with someone else doing it, it's really such a gamble. The only time I would get a doll with a faceup is if the default (or the faceup the doll already has from a previous owner) just happens to be exactly what I want. Or if I trust the faceup artist enough to have them do it for me.

I do have a few boys here who just go without faceups, not only from lack of time to give them one, but because they're just so cute and full of personality blank.

    9. I prefer that my dolls come without a face up. Most of the company face-ups really do not appeal to me. And like some people mentioned before, it helps with the bonding :) And you can do some character development along the way. They all have their personal quirks, like piercings or "heavy" make up. One of my dolls I came to me with a face up from the previous owner, but in the end I could not deal with it (I almost sold him because of that)
The only thing I am disappointed about is that I could not make them look the way I wanted my self. Yay for customisers.

    10. I agree with GothPonyDoll, and MinekaC on this. No face up = not bad = save money = use up those old art supplies.

I've done my first faceup and I'm over the fear, and know now what not to do, but with limited dolls, I'd rather have the company faceup.

Also, I rather like the no eyebrows look, not so much the no eyelashes though :/

    11. Pretty much always my answer is "no faceup." There's only one doll that I want to get WITH a faceup, and that's because her default look is...basically how I want her to look, so it makes sense to get her with one. But even then, I might end up getting her without. We'll see.

    12. well for me it depends on what the default faceups look like..

since i mainly have or planning to get chinese bjds...they tend to use a bit too much pink for me

as for getting a doll with no faceup after falling for the photo..i find my aod Rao to be prettier without the default faceup..

    13. I don't have a doll yet, but it would depend on the face-up. If its pretty I think I would go for it. If it was ugly or if I had a character already in mine I would choose without.

    14. I see dolls with no faceups as blank canvases, hence, endless potential!! :D
So I definitely don't have any issues with being disappointed by a doll without faceup.

I prefer to buy dolls w/o faceups, but sometimes I buy them with faceups mainly because that's how they are sold. I've wiped off limited edition dolls' faceups and also faceups done by other customisers before (dolls that I've purchased second hand), just because I do prefer to do my own faceups as for me, it helps with the bonding process.

    15. My only doll came with the default face up, and I couldn't be happier. I think it looks much different than the company photos, but I still think she's beautiful.

    16. I bought my first dolls with no face-ups, and have some of each since.

No eyebrows bugs me, but I have a mechanical pencil, and I'm not afraid to use it. I've left a couple of faces blank except for little pencilled eyebrows. On purpose, I mean. I have some heads that need their faces painted.

    17. Cool, cheers for the responses, I think I will have a go myself, I have been looking out for some supplies and I am going to be 'all brave' lol and try it, I will let you all know how it goes!

      Cheers Carol x

    18. Since I bought offline, I didn't even realize there was a choice of face up or no. I remember the woman pointed out one that had a face up, but I don't think I even realized the difference. .-. My boy came without a face up, and again, I didn't even realize that was odd until I was looking at pictures of dolls on this site. xD (I'd seen dolls before, of course, but I'm not observant enough to realize it's weird not to have eyebrows. xD)

Now, I'm glad I got him without a face up. I gave him my own horrible first-time face up, and I'm really glad I could do that. He feels more like my own, and I'd love to try doing more. @_@

    19. It depends... Pukis are the only think I'd order without a face up at this moment..

    20. I will usually not get a default face-up with a doll unless it is a unique one that I really like and that suits what I have in mind for the doll. I tend to like simple, natural looking makeup and it is comforting to know that if anything happens to one of my face-ups it will not be hard to re-do. I do really love getting a doll that has a great faceup right out of the box though. SO much easier to start bonding with.

Though my three dolls with default face-ups came with them included -- no choice in the matter, nor extra cost -- and I do appreciate it as I like their faceups a lot. :sweat
