It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Face up or no face up???

Sep 23, 2008

    1. I bought one doll with a face up and one without a face up. The male doll has a face up and the female does not.

I think I might stick to only doing female face ups for the most part. I may attempt to do guy's make up in the future but right now I am going to focus on females.

More then likely will be ordering males with face ups and females without one.

    2. I get mine blank if at all possible.

I prefer to do my own faceups, because I feel like I have a real hand in the character being created. Plus, it's experience and with that, I can make some money. The hobby needs to pay for itself. XD

Beyond that, I'm also afraid of accidents happening. It would be a huge waste if I paid all that money for a company faceup, only to have it get accidentally rubbed off.

    3. I bought my first doll with a face up and I loved it. At the time I think it was the best choice because I was still kind of a beginner at everything. Although I definitely want him to have a new one now.
All the dolls I've bought since him have been blank and I still have to send off for face ups.
Company face ups are lovely and most are very well done but they never truly match the character I want for the doll.
Currently I've never tried doing my own, and don't have a head I'd feel comfortable with just practicing on all the time, so I'd rather just send them to the wonderful artists here on DoA who have the skills. :)

    4. with faceup ><
because as crafty and good at artsy things as i am, the idea of doing a faceup scares the living daylights out of me. i am scared it would turn out looking like crap and result in me never being able to like her.
one day, i may get the courage to do it, but for now, i say yes to default faceups XD

    5. I will get them with a face up if the default face up is one that I like and find to be a ¨plain¨ face up - something that I can easily make minor changes to and really make the doll my own, but without the fear of having to do an entire face up myself. That´s one of the things I like about the RS/BBB default face ups is that they are pretty plain and simple and a few touches make them unique.

    6. I ask the companies for photos of their dolls blank in natural light whenever possible. Or I'd just wait until I see owner pics of them. I try to make my decisions only after seeing those. I don't trust company photos.

Most doll company face ups are beautiful but I want to do the face up myself. Even if it's not as nice as the professionals I get the satisfaction of knowing I did it...though it almost never looks like the artwork or writings I did of them before I resinated them. XD

    7. I bought mine without face-up. I have a friend who does face-ups and also the companies standard face-up looks to gothic for my taste.

    8. My Bob came without a face-up and after unsuccessfully trying to do her face-up myself, I finally sent her to a friend to fix up her face... HOWEVER, when and if I ever get a boy, I'm definetly going to pay the extra money for the default face up. It's just easier that way I think. ^^

    9. I've just ordered my first doll blank. I wanted to do the face-up myself ^_^ plussss it's cheaper lol

I wondered how my dwollie would look with no faceup so I searched for a picture of 1 with no faceup. Not as scary as I thought ^_^ But I doubt she'll be without a faceup for long ;)

    10. I've ordered default face-up >w<
      I'm afraid I won't paint him as good as these people can ^_^;;;

    11. I bought my first doll without faceup because I wanted better to paint it by myself rather than to explain what exactly I need. So I have the total responsibility of my doll's look and character :)

    12. I buy all my girls without faceup. I like to de face ups and if anything gets damaged I can change it.
I just have one guy and he was a full set. But I find it very hard to do male faceups so maybe if I am ever going to buy a male doll again I will buy it with or I will let someone else do the faceup

    13. My doll is based on a character I created so I wanted her to have a unique look which is why I did the Volks FCS... but I want some non-Volks future dolls so I think I'll order them without faceup, and if I can't do faceups by then I'd take the doll to a customizer.

    14. Very interesting thread. Tamsen is a composite -- a Haruka head and an Obitsu 60cm female body. Faceup wasn't an option with the head. I love her to death faceup-less, and I find that her expressions really do seem to change depending on the angle I look at her from (or maybe it's depending on whether she's pleased with whatever I just did with her!). She has acquired 9 pairs of eyes and 9 wigs in widely varied colours. I'm kind of sort of thinking about finding out about possibly getting her a faceup, but on the other hand I'm afraid she won't be as flexible with eyes and wigs with a definite face.

On the other hand, my two 1/6 Dollfies did go out for faceups and look just charming. I already knew their personalities very well by the time I sent them out and the artist really worked with me on them, so they're exactly what I wanted.

    15. I get mine blank nowadays....I prefer one of my friends to do the faceups...rather then go with the default one.

    16. When I ordered Moswen I got him with a face-up because I knew it would be 4-5 months before I could get him into the face-up artist I wanted to do him. I thought it would be a little weird to have him without a face for that first little while.

I don't regret spending the little bit extra to get his face done. I'll likely follow the same route when I order my next doll as, again, it'll be a few months before I can get him into a spot for the face-up artist to do him and I'd prefer to not have a blank faced doll.

I also completely lack in the skills required to do something like a face-up. I have a hard enough time just doing my own make-up (and usually go without, excepting lipstick) and wouldn't dream of wrecking havoc on my doll.

    17. The first doll head I bought I got him without faceup. His default made him look so tired and angry so I figured buy it without and commission someone to paint him. Before I got him I was worried I was not going to like the way he looked but when I opened his box I absolutly LOVED his sculpt so much better than I did on the website. I've got anouther doll on layaway who will arrive without faceup and I'm saving for anouther one without faceups. I feel default makes them not as unique as they could be and I love dolls that are pretty unique. With that said, there are some default faceups which are absolutly gorgous and would spurge to have them painted by the company(the one that comes to mind is theres a Kalix on these boards who was painted with theyre gore faceup and he is absolutly gorgous!)

    18. I ordered my boys with face-ups. I don't have much of an urge to do the face-ups myself - and I'm sure I'd make a mess of them if I tried. I'm going to indulge my creative side with sewing for them, instead!

    19. I bought my first doll with company face-up (default) and was very disappointed. I think the best option for me would be getting the doll with no face-up, then sending to an artist. I am not good with face-ups myself and am not sure I would like to improve (doing face-ups is not all that enjoyable for me).

    20. face up all the way for me. i'm a talentless hack, so i wont' be adding any on my own - the little ones need faces :)
