Fairyland Chic Line clothing, shoe, and wig database - Useable vs. REALLY FITS

May 18, 2010

    1. We would love to see pictures, HarleyQuinn.

And here are the YoSD underpants. Hur hur. I think they do fine but, as I said, they are quite a squeeze and will probably need the waistband sewing back up when he has finally burst it apart, which he will do.

ETA: More than one picture in a discussion thread or double post? *Goes for the lesser of two evils*

The glass eyes that I got from Thomas Eichhorn-Nelson. I asked for both eyes to have 2mm irises. One came with 3mm irises, which works fine, the other had 4mm irises, which are just too big. It sounds like a miniscule difference, but at this scale it is noticeable.

The eyes. The dark one is bigger overall, which reduces some of the aparent size of the iris, but you can see they are different sizes.

In doll. I realise that the dark colour of the larger irises queers things a bit, but look at how much more sclera is showing in the smaller ones and how they change her expression from derp to alert.

So, whilst I bought these to be for my Rou and Ino, I can only use one set and will be ordering some more. So, the moral of this story is, if you want the expert craftsmanship of handblown glass eyes, you will have to be prepared to deal with some of the vagaries of a handmade product. I don't think this would be such a big deal with larger eyes but, at this scale, every millimeter matters.

    2. Thank you so much for that comparison MadamMauMau! The smaller iris set is just fabulous, and I'm sure you'll find someone who wants the other pair...

    3. They look great, morganatron, and I love that rhumba pants and dressing gown combo. Good find on colour.

    4. Another potentially useful resource. Kolkman Creations who make clothes for 16" fashion dolls (and for action figs, for those of that inclination). In mostly stretchy fabrics, so not such a biggy if the fit is not perfect. Realistically-priced, and you can choose fabrics.

    5. Sheesh...working on Vanye's mod, I realized I'd gotten the eye sockets fairly large and tried Pook's 8mm dino eye in them, and loved them. I'm really tempted to go to the larger size on him. But then, he's a bit of an innocent compared to Morgaine and I think that the larger iris enhances the effect.

Cute...but Morgaine would kill me. :D

She also customizes a bit, so I'd give her the CLine hip measurement. They're a lot more hippie than these dolls. And I'd sure like to see one on a CLine before ordering. She's depending on the stretch for all the shaping.

    6. Perhaps surprisingly, given how curvaceous they look, CLine hips are smaller than Tyler, Antoinette, Ellowyne. In fact, most on her list. The waist is slightly smaller though, which is what might be making the hips look bigger, but even that is only 0.5-0.7cm smaller than most. The exception is Ellowyne, whose waist is 1.5cm bigger. There is a very handy chart of fashion doll measurments somewhere about that can be used to check these things.

    7. Interesting! I've never seen the others in person or their measurements. .5cm can make quite a difference. But that might just make the problem more pronounced. The stretch between bust and hips is already flattening the curves....but you know, a blingy belt would solve everything! :D

I want to know where she finds her fabrics. The knits she's using are yummy!
Ha! Just checked out the Ellowyn measurements. Interesting!
Just for giggles, I ran some numbers, because the CLines LOOK hippier...and in fact proportionally, I think they are, tho not by much. This is probably old news to all of you, but I find it kinda cool.
ChicLine small bust compared to Ellowyn 16"
      Height is 91%
      Bust is 94%
      waist is 86%
      hips are 95%
So they are indeed a lot curvier, but the Ellowyn's taller to begin with, so just looks more willowy.
      I LOVE CLINES! :D

    8. I guess it depends on how narrow she makes them. I have some Tonner-sized tube dresses and they are tight all round, waist and all. The fabric is quite robust and the maker made them quite narrow. As this one lists that these fit some of the smaller dolls too, I would hope they would be as tight. Someone is going to have to take the plunge and report back.

I must post those tube dresses. Very simple, but quite effective. And cheap. I like that bit especially. They bleed colour like nobody's business, though, so will need to be rinsed well before using.

And I will post my Franklin Mint dress too, when it arrives, and if it fits. *crosses fingers fiercely*

    9. If anyone's interested, boots from this seller on ebay fit Chicline girls perfectly :)
I have one pair and it's wonderfully well-made, I'll definitely be buying more in the future!

    10. Posted over on the CLine, so this is probably old news to everyone, but thought I'd post here.
      Vanye's new sock sweater:

And the "pattern/instructions" (please note, the "pattern" was put together very rapidly. Sleeve s/b slightly curved on the top rather than a V, and the armhole cut should also be slightly curved like a regular armhole.)

I think it fits pretty good! :D

    11. Want to add a new find to this thread! I'm just over the moon about this... The new Tulabelle line by Integrity Toys looks like a dream on C-Line girls! I am really picky about scales therefore I never thought the Tonner and other 16" fashion doll stuff I've tried worked too well, but this outfit really surprised me! It's called "Coated in Glamour". The whole outfit looks really in scale. The jacket is really beautifully made. I really adore the tiny quilted details on the sleeves and the little belted decorations. However, it's not a perfect fit. I had the following problems:

      1. The belt on the dress would not close. I think I will have to sew in a new loop but it won't be too much work.
      2. The shoes are a tight fit on the heeled feet. However, she can definitely stand in them on aided!
      3. The whole outfit is a bit restrictive. She can't sit at a 90 degree angle and it's a bit hard to bend her arms more than shown in the picture.

With that being said, it's still the most in scale readily available outfit I've found. I'm getting a few more sets from the line to test them out!

    12. Oh, wow!! Chloe looks fantastic -- and it's nice to know that Tulabelle jackets are a better fit than Tyler ones (which are really oversized in the back/shoulder area.) Does Tulabelle use the same body as any other Tonner dolls, do you know?

(I've had mixed luck with Tonner outfits and have done better with AvantGuards and other slim-built "high-fashion" dolls -- my Bimong Shahti, Crimson, wears a lot of Tonner clothes. The dresses/skirts/trousers fit well, although some dresses need to be taken in at the bust . . . but the one jacket I have is ENORMOUS.)

I need to take comparison photos of Crimson with Jackal, my C-Line/Anubis, but I'm not sure how useful they'll be, since Jackal has a non-human head (and I don't want to unglue her Mohawk just to put her unused Lishe faceplate on.)

Hoping to get together with Dhawktx soon, and I'll ask her to bring a couple of her C-Lines along, so that I can get some apples-to-apples comparison shots :)

(Mentioning Shahti here because I've discovered that, due to their similar scale but non-identical proportions, I've found that if something doesn't fit the C-Line body, it will often fit the Shahti body, and vice versa . . . so, I've been able to swap wigs and clothes back and forth, to see what looks best on each doll. In the first pics of Crimson's Flickr set that I linked above, she's wearing the bodysuit from the ChicLine "Black Secret" outfit -- Ino's default outfit -- and it actually fits her better than it fits Jackal, since Jackal has the small bust, and therefore doesn't fill it out on top very well.)

When I have a female (human-headed) C-Line in front of me, I also have an AvantGuards wig to try on her -- it's just barely too small for Crimson (who has a 13.2cm head circumference), but I think it will be perfect for a C-Line. Will report back as to how the fit works out!

    13. I have one of the Tulabelle outfits, the Violet one. Never used the top but the shorts and shoes fit perfectly~

    14. Okay, slightly off topic, so I hope this is okay, but I want to sew my boy Chicline a suit, and I am very lazy with pattern drafting, so I was really hoping to base it off an existing pattern I could buy - so my question is, what do people think is the best fit for Chicline boys from other companies? I'm thinking most of all in terms of around the shoulders and neck, if that makes sense, because arm length or width around the waist is easy enough to alter - but I find collars the hardest thing to do! I've been going through the thread, and Tonner looks too big around the shoulders, MNF might work... anyone have any opinion on Ken (as in Ken and Barbie) clothes, as patterns for them seem to be easy to get? Or any other suggestions? There's a lot of info on the thread here, so I might have missed something!

Would also be interested in opinions on girl Chiclines too! Sorry if this is OT, I just thought I'd be more likely to get answers here than in the sewing section - and hopefully this might help others who sew too!

    15. Ken is 30cm vs CLine boys at 40cm, so that won't work. Chest, waist, everything is bigger.

There is a wealth of ideas on what other doll clothes fit the CLines in here. You need a bit of patience to have a trawl through. There are also some measurement charts around somewhere, I think they might be in the first post. They give you the dimensions of various fashion dolls. No one is exactly the same size as CLines, but a number of clothes have been found that just about fit. Good luck!

    16. It depends whether you would rather size up or down, really. I find that Ashton-Drake Trent fits the boys very well, as he is smaller than the Tonner boys and slimmer. The photo fitting thread has some good examples of what works. I'm rather lazy and prefer "Off the rack" things, especially for the girls. A-D's Gene fits best everywhere except the waist, as Gene is made with a really high waistline. here are some pattern makers on ebay that have suits for Trent. 17. Thanks so much, that's really helpful! I'll check out the Trent patterns - that's awesome. And in answer to your question - would rather size up than down I think, but hopeful I can get something that won't require a complete redrafting. I've been going through this thread, but I'm so unsure as to what type to go for - there are so many doll types I'm unfamiliar with! So, thanks so much for that! Will keep researching too! :D

    18. Adding a further note about Franklin Mint clothes. I just got a Scarlet O'Hara dress and the fit is almost perfect. It has a fitted bodice which is exactly right on my large bust Ino. Not too tight or pulling anywhere, and still tight enough to look tailored. The shoulders are about half a centimetre too wide on either side and the bodice is fractionally too long which means that, being fitted so it can't be pulled down, the shoulders sit fractionally high. I could also have done with an extra 0.5cm on the sleeve length. But, overall, a very good fit, and I have ridiculously high standards. The finish is as good as I would want it too, with all trims and embellishments in scale. So, there you are. Franklin Mint clothing ftw. I will get a photo tonight (supposed to be working now. Curse welcome distractions).
