Fairyland Feeple 65 Discussion Part 7

Feb 22, 2022

    1. @overlordu Yeah, I'm not feeling a lot of love for the O-ring thing in the knees and I can see that being a huge pain in the butt when I go to string him again. I'm not sure how I'd get the existing elastic out of the shin channels and at this point I'm not feeling very optimistic about it.

I don't find the arm magnets overly strong and they seem to me to come out of place with not a whole lot of effort. Because he's currently very loosely strung (I was guessing on where to knot the elastic), as I was testing wigs on him, he nearly took a tumble from my lap and I grabbed at the closest thing to catch him and that was his arm. It pulled straight out of the socket but fortunately I was quick enough with my other hand to grab him by the torso. Had some serious heart flutters for a few seconds there.

I'm not demanding of my dolls regards posing at all. I require that they be able to stand unaided and sit without falling over backwards and that's about it really. I also have kips in different sizes so I could certainly pop one in the shoulder joint and potentially hot glue it in place if I think it's an issue.

    2. @Iron_Dog Well that's interesting! I mean I definitely wouldn't pick up an F65 by his arm, but on all of mine they stay put unless I purposely take them out. :o

But like I said, there's no disadvantage to stringing him traditionally, so you should go for it! KIPS would work great if you have some big enough that won't get sucked into the giant arm hole. And the shin elastic should be easy to get out if you take his foot off first, it's just looped around a resin hook in the foot. So pull the foot away from the ankle cap, then you should be able to slip the foot right off the elastic, and pull the elastic out the top. :thumbup

    3. @overlordu He's my first FL of this size (I have a MNF Ruth as well) and the only doll that has such... complicated stringing. As loose as he is currently he can still stand unaided (I wouldn't trust him unattended though) which is pretty impressive really. I'm eager to get him properly strung so I can start on making him an outfit I've got an idea for.

I have kips in multiple sizes and some of them are very large so they'd probably work for the huge arm hole he has. I'll see how it goes to string his arms normally and if I find it's a problem I can always put the mag pieces back.

To be fair, he's not the only tough stringing job on the docket. I've been delaying re-stringing my Akhmel Nathan because I literally need to use a beading needle and jewellery elastic to string him (he's 30cm but his arms and legs are incredibly thin). I need to re-string his fingers, too, as the elastic broke for both his hands and his arms (it was original so....).

    4. Thanks, @Iron_Dog , that used to work.
In the past couple months, the method changed, even on pc.
When I have more time, I'll figure out a work around. Meanwhile, I'll take a picture of my 3 big CP men.

    5. Aren’t the arms supposed to lock into place? Like, besides the magnets, if he’s positioned normally, the arms should be locked in and can’t detach and fall out. If his chest is pushed far back at the most extreme angle, then the arms will pop off for easy changing. This is with the original body, at least. Didn’t test that yet on the new body. I can say with this new body, the legs are strung normally. No O-rings in the knees as far as I can see.

    6. @Stormlight I'm not sure? Aside from a L/R indicator on the piece that strings the arms I didn't see any locking notches/grooves/etc. on the chest piece or arm attachment. The left arm is much easier to detach than the right arm and I've firmly pushed both arms into the shoulder joint so they should be making good contact with the main mag piece in his chest. The arms aren't randomly falling off but it doesn't seem to require much effort to remove his arms (especially the left)

I don't know when the body was made as he's 2nd hand, I'm at least his 3rd owner and the seller said the body didn't come with a CoA (I don't think FL issues CoA's for just bodies and more than likely didn't years ago?). If it helps at all in narrowing down the age of the body, there's completely embedded/covered magnets in his back under his shoulder blades (I assume for wing attachment?).

    7. The new bodies have those back magnets as well, although Fairyland so far have not made any actual wings for them. The F60 bodies also have them.

Pretty sure if this body is that old, then the arms should lock into the torso. If they don’t, possibly there’s an issue with the body itself, the plastic inside worn down or something? I’ll have to dig out my F65 manual and take pics to show you what I mean. There’s instructions and diagram showing how it should work.

I’m at work right now though so it’ll have to be later this afternoon.

    8. No worries. I've gotten him strung together again tighter than my first attempt. I did it without that chest mag piece and I'm much happier with the results. Being able to remove his arms wholescale isn't a function I'd ever use so it's a pointless feature to me. The shoulders seem to be pretty decent with regards to holding positions as I've strung them now but I'm also not a big stickler for extreme positions. The O-ring knee thing was a total pain to string but I did it. He stands very solidly, which is something I am a stickler for. His torso/legs elastic could maybe be a smidge tighter but my hands say nope, not doing that today but thanks for asking. Stringing large dolls is not an arthritis friendly activity.

@Stormlight I'd appreciate pics of the stuff in the manual if you have time but don't rush to do it on my account. The chest piece/arm connector he has have a sort of... groove arrangement that helps to hold the two parts together (magnets aside). I'm simply not happy with how strong the connection is, which is generally my issue with mag parts.

I have a Leeke Khal on the muscle body and he has gorgeously blushed hands that are mag hands. I swear if I think about looking at them sideways they pop off. It doesn't really matter for Khale as he wears DZ armour claw hands as his defaults but for the week or two that he had to wear his company hands, they were constantly dropping off at the slightest movement which was irritating and made me a bit anxious. I think my intense dislike of mag parts probably started there.

    9. OMG I forgot about that....! Haha the other day when I was dressing one I tried to pop his arm out at one point and it wouldn't come out, so I gave up. I think I had his chest leaning forward so I bet the arms were locked in

    10. Is anyone able to share the new f65 male and female bodies together? I would like to see how they compare proportion wise. Please and thank you :)

    11. @Iron_Dog, here’s the instructions for locking his arms in place, as per the F65 manual. The arms are supposed to be locked in when the torso is straight and only come out when the upper chest piece is pulled back. So I can’t say what’s going on with your boy.

Honestly, Fairyland seriously needs to update this booklet. This is the one that came with Rozen, but the new male body does not even have this feature anymore! Or the O-hooks in the knees. He’s strung like a regular BJD. That’s kind of disappointing, NGL, although others probably won’t mind.

    12. @Stormlight Thank you for the pics. I think maybe the arm came off so easily because he was loosely strung initially (I just wanted him together) and when he started to leap from my lap his upper chest could've been in a more back leaning position making the arms easy to pop free. I don't remember exactly as he gave me quite the fright initially with the sudden dive for the floor. Nobody wants to have their doll hit the floor within the first few hours of having them, lol, so I wasn't overly focused on parts positions.

I finally received my 2022 Feeple65 body and have paired it with my delf Nanuri07! I had to sand the inside of the head less than a millimeter to be able to turn the mechanism. Overall I’m happy with the finished product and I really love the proportions of this body. There is a slight resin mismatch but over the years I’m sure the body will mellow out.

    14. As said in other channels on it and asked for them in both feeple sizes, may we get many new pretty skin tones. <3

    15. Lol, I put down purple as a choice, too.

    16. I had no idea, this was supposed to happen. I thought something was wrong with Logan when her arm did this! (i guess I better look at the manual for f65, my experiences are with f60 and mnf)This feature could come in handy with some clothing too.

    17. @Nikki'sNewObsession I strung Braithwyn initially with that mag chest piece and just didn't like it (and would never use the function of it) so I re-strung him without in the normal fashion you string most dolls and I'm much happier with the way his arms behave.

    18. Thats good to know as well. Are they less "stiff", I'd like my girls to have more natural posing with their arms.
I struggle with the leg lock too, for getting them to sit, but luckily their furniture supports that function as well, making it easier to get them to behave.
