FANCYBOOTS Liebchen Release Information

Nov 9, 2005

    1. fancyboots, I have to say...

      I love your little girl.
I love her beautiful curved legs.
I love the way she stands.
You are an artist of the highest calibre and have created something most of us could NEVER hope to, with an incredibly degree of professionality and patience.

I wish you all the best of luck selling her and creating new little beauties - although I doubt you'll need it the way Liebchen has turned out! She'll probably sell like hotcakes ;)

Cato, I think you've made your point - its starting to sound like harassment. The knees of the doll just are how they are, and I think they look very lovely - she stands the way a young gymnast stands. Its obviously not a fault, but part of the overall aesthetic. If you don't like the legs, don't buy the doll.

    2. Again - I just have to say how much I love her.

She is beautiful - the only problem I have with her is that it's possible I might miss out!!!

      But fingers crossed!

    3. If we're poor, and can only afford her (and not the one with the outfit), can we make puppy dog eyes at you to get the purple wig? I love purple and don't care for pink much. :daisy

    4. Dear Cato,

I'll let the following pictures speak for themselves.
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=43446

Those pictures are of a Unoa L-bi, a doll noted for it's superior quality and form. I doubt any of you have heard any complaints about him, or commented on how "odd" or "off" any part of him is.

Notice anything familiar about his pictures? Maybe about the way he's standing? Please take a good look.

      It's a pose, it's not a flaw.

    5. Diep,
I would like to thank you for all your information and the additional photos. You have been very upfront and helpful and I appreciate that. I guess I felt Karin was being defensive on the whole issue of the standing, which frustrated me. I was talking about mechanics and she was talking aesthetics, which are two different issues to me. You can have a gorgeous doll and be really disappointed with her posing and standing. Even the really famous dolls have their issues (er, my Unoa's face plate pops off if I don't tape it.. my Luts has snappy joints... my Volks Megu...nevermind) Of course we are asking you more questions than we can ask Asian artists. But don't believe for one minute that they don't have email boxes full of questions. They just can't respond to them. And of course we are asking more questions-- you are a new doll artist and your doll is not "user reviewed." If there were a million Liebchens out there, I'd just PM an owner and get the whole scoop.

Regarding my question about the locking leg grooves, ok, take a look at a Unoa leg construction. There is an overlapping knee part on the upper leg portion, and this fits over the ball joint with a shelf-like channel making up the whole knee. So when you push the lower leg forward, the upper leg part stops it from going further. Does Liebchen have this construction? That was all I wanted to know. As I said, I cannot go pick her up myself and see how she is made. If you read all my posts in this thread, I believe I have been very respectful and appreciative of your creation, but I also am a customer and want to have my questions answered.

again, thanks for your information. All of us wish you well with this new venture. If we have a lot of questions, well... we are BJD collectors. We're very interested in the nuts and bolts in addition to the pretty stuff.

    6. Leibchen is so beautiful! everything down from the sculpt of her pretty pouty face and her body *OMG* her body *loves* i love the curve in her legs :D and i love how you posed her in the promo pics =)

how you have dealt with everyones questions BY YOURSELF on the yahoo + doa forums quickly and gone out of your way to show everything AND made this doll AND the clothing, face-ups, shoes, wigs whereas many companies have a large number of people is fantastic! :D

your are such an amazing talented seamstress, photographer, face-up artist and now you have doll-maker to add to the list  hehe

    7. Hi Cato, ok! I can answer now. I know the photo above w/ the parts is not super clear because it was at night and I wanted to get all of the pieces in the photo so I was moved back somewhat, but I think the lower leg has the groove that you are asking about.

I was confused because to me, a groove goes inward. I'd call the construction more of a "shelf" like you did in this post. What I call it is a ridge. Els (northern_raven) posted a link to a Unoa above---what I see of his lower leg is just like Liebchen's, with that ridge that comes out about 3/32" more than the rounded ball area that gets cupped by the upper leg.

The difference between mine and this boy Unoa is that his knee joint goes straight across while mine curves. That was an aesthetic decision. I don't know if it makes a difference functionally. I *can* curve Liebchen's legs more outwards in a "bowed" manner if I want to, even though the ridge curves all the way around her lower leg. But I wanted that for poseability.

I'm sorry that you were upset with Karin's post, but I think that she mistook your question for one of aesthetics, as I did originally. She's one of the most generous and kindest people that I know---in real life and online---and I know that she wouldn't say things to be mean or hurtful. She's very direct, though, and tends to favor moving dustmops, but she wouldn't say things to be hurtful. We both thought that your objection to the legs was something to do w/ the way that it was sculpted. Once you explained that you meant functionally and about the standing strength, I understood better. I didn't understand why you were asking about standing, though, because to me it seemed plain in the photos that she could stand---that's why I took those goofy photos, to show that she can do all kinds of things and still stand. I even had her arched backwards looking at the ceiling in one photo, but her legs had to really splay out to hold that pose so I didn't include it for Karin to put on the website.

I think that there are lots of poses that many dolls can do (including Liebchen) that may make their limbs not so conventionally "pretty", but usually they are in clothes so you don't see what the limbs are doing, you only see the nice result of the pose. Thank-you for asking your questions, as now I know to include more straightforward photos in the future! Also, I heard from Dezarii, so I now know that she didn't mean the "coincidentally hidden" in a bad way...which is how I originally took it to mean.

    8. I just wanted to add that I think she's wonderful and that her joints and body construction look supre. I have to say that I'm very impressed by that in particular, as many many companies don't have joints even half as good as what Diep's made here. They really look great and appealing and adorable and well-done. I really look forward to seeing people's IRL photos when their babies come in.

Congrats on making such a great doll! I know what a difficult undertaking it must have been and how long you must have researched it and worked to come to this pleasing end.

    9. I've PM'd you. We can talk about it.

    10. Perhaps if the human body were symmetrical and perfectly even, it would be valid to demand such a thing in a realistic doll. But the fact is that people are not symmetrical and MOSTof them have 1 leg that is at least a quarter inch shorter than the other so even if Diep's sculpt were uneven, that would merely be correct, natural, normal, desirable and realistic. The late Swiss doll artist Sasha Morganthaler deliberately sculpted her dolls with asymmetrical limbs and features so that the doll would look alive and stand in an active, natural, human manner and Sasha collectors treasure them for that. It takes true artistic genius to achieve both the visual and physical balance and line that imply life and movement in a static object. Diep's Liebchen looks alive, which is the quality I most desire in a doll.

    11. I love that her knees hyper-extend! But I ' m a ballet dancer, so it is my nature. :D
Her body sculpt is so life like, I expect her to blink everytime I see a picture of her! *jen

    12. I think the body sculpt is very beautiful, and I LOVE how you've done her thigh joint for better posability. (I've been pondering modding my boys to do that, but I'm not that brave quite yet. *lol*)

I wish you all the best for her. The photos you've shown give more detail about her construction than anyone could hope to ask for, she's very well designed and very beautiful. ^^

    13. I am sorry if I offended any one, especially you Cato, it was not my intention. I read the post as an aesthetic problem you were having not a mechanical one. I guess the fact I have been around bjd for about 4 years now, there are things I take for granted and that is not a good thing. I will work to improve.

      Karin

    14. Diep, I just wanted to say that I *adore* Liebchen's body sculpt, and her sweet poses . . . those are some beautiful curvy limbs that you've sculpted!!

I'd love to see some option heads for this body someday . . . I'm not going to be able to make it in on the first edition, unfortunately, but I love her sculpt so much that I do hope to have one of your dolls eventually!!

    15. Liebchen is beautiful! I love her flexibility and the way she stands, especially the curve of her legs...
Good luck in selling her! ^__^ You're an amazing artist!

    16. I remember when she was just a head in the Artist section... :daisy she is so lovely, you should be very proud! You are an inspriation to all us BJD artists! :D X3

    17. I'm biased but I think Liebchen is striking - that's why I ordered one :-D I eagerly await for her arrival. Diep has done a wonderful job and she should be very proud :-D

    18. I love this girl. I wish there was any way that I could afford to own one, but not before Christmas at any rate!

I'm fascinated by her design because the dynamics of getting a doll to stand and balance would be beyond me. Though I have dreamed of making a doll head!

      Bon voyage, little Liebchen! :)

    19. my curiosity is that both cato and diep live in ohio if i am not mistaken, if you really wanted to see the doll in person you might drive and see it yourself if diep was so inclined. i know if someone in portland had a doll like this and i really wanted to see it in person i would pm them and ask if there was someplace we could meet and i could check out their doll, just my thought after reading this whole thread. i do think the body sculpt is beautiful and she has a pretty head but she isnt my style but that is just me. i hope there to be more heads so i can have the beautiful body and maybe a head i find irrisistable. i think people value honesty more than anything and i believe diep has been as honest as she can be to answer all the questions. congratulations on a beautiful doll! ;)

    20. Where might I find the 'vital statistics' aka measurements for this lovely doll?? Thanks so much!!
