1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Finding BJDs in the strangest places

Nov 29, 2007

    1. I honestly didn't think there'd be a lot of people in the NE ohio area. Apparently I was wrong. I've also learned that a number of the people I talk to online actually have them too!

      @ ChocolateTangerine & Uber-Kitten - Yeah, Ohio has a lot of dolly lovers. If you're in to anime cons that's a really good place to find them too. Usually someone will hold a meetup or something.

    2. Well I found some pullip eyerings and badges on holiday.

      Also in blue banana they sell dung dolls on necklaces! the poor dolls! i wanted to buy them all and take them off them >< i did buy one.

      Oh and i was walking around lincoln where i know there are maybe 2 other collectors and these 3 emo boys(sorry only way i could desdribe them >< they were really nice guys) came up to me and was asking me going "Are they BJD's?" To bad I was in a rush TT.TT would have loved to hang around and talk to them a bit more TT.TT

    3. Again, this isn't very strange or spectacular...
      I was messing around on FaceBook, and I saw this girl commenting on my childhood friend's status... My friend talked about this girl a lot in posts but I had never seen her so I clicked her. I went to her photos and just went to a random album, and lo, it was pictures of her Luts HDF Lolly! I sent her a stalkerish message explaining how I found her and that it was exciting to see other hobbyists in the area and asking if she was on DoA... Her reply was nervous and weirded out XD She's also not a member here >___>;

      Also, this probably isn't really qualified to be in this thread but I'm using my grandma's computer and I just looked up on the screen and saw Luts in her favorites bar... I figured I accidentally favorited it while browsing, and clicked it since I needed to go to Luts anyways... Turns out it went to the wig I showed her I was getting for my floating head! Maybe she's planning on getting it for my birthday :D

    4. The most surprising place I saw BJDs was on the stage in a version of the Nutcracker staring Hello Kitty at Puroland, the Hello Kitty theme park :sweat :sweat :sweat. I was just getting into BJDs at the time, too!

    5. I was visiting a friend in Seoul when I saw some BJDs being used to model jewelry in a store. It was kind of a pleasant surprise! I would've loved to take some pictures, but I don't think the employees would've been very keen. :sweat

    6. My mom hired a housecleaner who comes once every few weeks, but I never really talked to her. Once when she was vacuuming my room she commented on how she liked my Heliot. (She called him a Dollfie xD) She also said she even had a book on BJDs, but they were too expensive for her to actually get one. I was stunned; totally unexpected.

    7. At a state wide art contest in Texas this year I took my KDF bory Nika with me. ^_^ Now in this case, the people who saw me with the doll would be the ones posting to this thread. And, a girl from San Antonio recognized Nika from pics I've put up of him on deviantART! XDDD

      But, as I'm walking down this huge staircase in the gallery area, some girl stops me and says, "Hey, he's a BJD isn't he??" To which I was happy she realized Nika was a boy, but even more surprised that she knew right away. Then she went on to say, "Yeah, I have one too."

      So I told her Nika's mold type, and when I asked her about her doll, she said, "Oh... I don't know. o.0"

      How did she not know what mold doll she had??? Unless she was lying to me about owning one to look cool (she had a lot of friends with her).

    8. My children were enjoying a play date one afternoon. The kids all decided they wanted to do crafts, so the other mom brought out the craft supplies. In them were stickers. I recongnized all the little faces on the stickers right away as the Volks four sisters. She laughed at me, and knowing my love of dolls quickly offered me the stickers, keeping them safely away from the little crafers.

      Another time, I needed to purchase a jump rope, so I hit the local dollar store in the small town I lived in at that the time. Well to my surprise, the jump ropes all had Volks girls on them!!!

    9. Quite a number of people buy their first dolls at conventions and such, not even realizing that there are multiple companies to choose from or that each sculpt usually has it's own name and such. There have been a number of people who even post here, asking other members to help them pinpoint which doll they just bought as they didn't choose to ask the dealer at the time. It's really not that strange. Some people just don't know ahead to ask.

    10. Ah, I see. I didn't give the rest of the conversation because I can't remember it clearly (I was leaving when she stopped me), and she seemed to know which company Luts was when I said it, so she might know about different companies. But maybe she didn't know where to ask about her doll. I think I asked her if she was here on DoA, but I probably didn't since I think I'd remember that. :p

    11. I've never had anything like this happen! But it makes me wonder if anyone else in my town has dolls...

      Anyone around Milford, Ohio? xP

    12. I think this has been pointed out in a different thread with the same subject,
      but I kind of have to wonder about this "Questionable Content" page... In the last panel, Faye asks Marigold if Angus has any weird habits, and jokingly asks if he has a "closet full of doll parts".
      Then, in this xkcd strip the girl mentions she "collects and paints Asian dolls" and the first thing I thought was BJDs.

    13. My grandpa lives in Mexico and he just sent me a video of his goddaughter Ruby's Quinceañera anyways, she was sitting there in her pretty dress and she had just given away her porceline doll when her aunt hands her this doll. It was a Soom Gena! It just blew my mind, because the last time I saw Ruby she hated dolls.

    14. Sadly,the same accounts for me except I'm in Boaz. There really is nothing and noone here. I did have random bjd encounter tho. I was in the Gasden mall walking around Spencers and I seen this little group (like three people). One of the girls had a lanky 60cm boy holding a tiny. I died! I couldn't stop staring either. I was going to go talk to her,but 1) some girls were talking my head off about how cool I was and how creepy the dolls were (which pissed me off) and 2) she looked kinda snobby (no offense). Haven;t seen one since. Dx

    15. I haven't had any random encounters in my town, but I just noticed last night that one of my all-time favorite mangas, Under the Glass Moon, had giant drawing of a *headless* one in it. I had a giant laughing fit, since I haven't read it since high school, but seeing all the pretty boy dolls reminded me of it, so I decided to re-read it. Hope that wasn't too off-topic!!:blush

    16. I don't know if this counts, but when I was showing my best friend the BJDs I wanted, she went, "Oh! My room mate has some of those." I've since chatted with her room mate about them on facebook ^^;

    17. OH MY GOD YES I found a BACKPACK with pictures of a DoT Bee-A on it!! In DUBAI in the middle of a market that sold fake designer brand purses!! I freaked out. I'm actually super pissed I didn't buy it DXXX GAWD I'm so mad at myself for that ;_;

      Oh, and I TOTALLY WANT AN EL DOGTAG <3

    18. I was at Hobby Lobby the other day and stumbled on a compact that I swear has a BJD on it. I didn't read this whole thread to see if it has been posted before but it was just the most random find.

      So is it a Volks??? Me and several of my friends suspect it is but not sure of the mold. We are thinking either 4 sisters, or maybe Sho?

    19. It looks like a customized Volks Syo.
