1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Finding BJDs in the strangest places

Nov 29, 2007

    1. XD this doesn't pertain to me but pertains to my mom, one day I came home from school and mom looks at me confused, I ask her what and she tells me she thought I was home already, she thought I was asleep in her bedroom, I go over to the bed and lift the covers and there was my boy...my mom was like XD OMG Ive been trying to be quiet for a DOLL...it was hilarious...I'm quite thin and the doll is big enough to take on my silouette under the covers so I cant blame her...ah well.

    2. Not to terrify us, but I am watching an episode of HOARDERS and this guy has like, fifty dolls piled on his bed. Many on BJDs. He's explaining that he could make 60,000 selling all of them.

I'm afraid they're going to force him to throw them away!

    3. Just out of curiosity, what was this guys name? That way we can all see em.

    4. His name was Sir Patrick. He was an eccentric fellow. Unfortunately, I didn't finish the episode to see what happened. 2:30 a.m. got the best of me.

    5. There's alot of people that have 50+ dolls on this forum...

    6. The only experience I had is a friend of mine who found one for super cheap at a flea market because the woman selling didn't know what it was =[ SO JEALOUS!

    7. A couple of years ago I moved to Northern VA, to a very small town that ... isn't exactly known for being particularly sophisticated. So imagine my surprise when, after starting work at a toystore, I discover that not only is one of the people there into anime and going to cons, but she is also the first person I met who has dolls of her own. She was also the bad influence that encouraged me to get my own first doll. And the second. And the third. ^_^

    8. I have never in my life met or seen anyone in real life who is into dolls the way me and my net friends are. Never.
EXCEPT for my irl friends, who aren't irl anymore, as they've joined the military and such. D:

    9. watched the Sir Patrick episode of Hoarders and he didn't have any BJDs mostly porcelain dolls which he kept. He had a lot of really fun things in his house I kind of felt sorry for him since he didn't have anything of value for the auction everything he thought was worth something wasn't so sad.

    10. I'm planning on having 50+ dolls ;) it wasn't the amount of dolls that was scary, it was the condition they were kept in and the condition of the rest of the house. This was, like I said, an episode of Hoarders.

Oh! Oh well! I didn't get far enough into the episode to really see the dolls. My first impression had been from a distance, and I suppose I'm cultured to see BJDs when I see dolls :) but yes, it was a very sad episode.

    11. same thing here :) but it was badges, note books and picture frames with DOD dolls on it

    12. I live waaaaay up north in B.C., so there's really not much going up here outside of mainstream culture. I've never seen/heard of/met anyone who even knows what BJDs are!! :...(
My partner is very patient and listens to my BJD ramblings and random outbursts. If it weren't for him I'd go mad! :whee:

    13. Before I even got my doll, I found out one of the Chinese girls in my high school dorm had one. :) She brought him down to dinner one night not long after the boarding mistress told me about it; it was so surprising to see one sitting in the cafeteria *laughs*

    14. don't know if its that strange, but i have the three books about the japanese fashion and gothic lolitas from phaidon and in the g&l one are a few pictures with bjds :3 i have them for almost 4 years now and never noticed XD but there is the biggest bjd in one picture i have EVER seen!
(i adore the last picture the most, there are a few pullips and six little bjds :aheartbea)

    15. yeah in 2 places it was weird!

first off is when i met my (now friend) she was in little toyko and my guy friend and i just walked out of the kinokuniya book store and low and behold there is someone sitting there with a dollfie. i quickly told my guy friend "OMG its a dollfie i remember seeing those waaay back at anime expo." well needless to say she and i are good friends :D

and the second time it was the REVERSE for me. my 2 friends and i were getting out of the car and juggling all of our dolly stuff and holding our dolls when a girl walks up to us and says "scuse me are those dollfies?" turns out she owns quite a few of them and she lived down the street.

      small world i guess :D

    16. Some of these are weird, haha a church :) I saw a a picture of a bjd i think it was a soom monthly? or something i can't remember but it was in one of those little salls vendord set up in the middle of shopping centres, in a picture frame. will update if i find a pic :) i also remember in year 6 a girl in my class called Nisha brought in a book for art that had bjd's in different poses i don't know what sculpt though, maybe they were obitsu's but they're off topic

      EDIT: found the picture :)

    17. The only time I can think of is a week or so ago, I was watching Come Dine with Me and a guy had a picture of a Pullip on his wall. xD
But that's it. D: I think though, a few years ago, I had been talking to this girl online and one of her friends was talking to this girl about how she really wanted a BJD but didn't think she could spend that much money on them. I was so tempted to be all, "Doooo it!!" :P

    18. So far I haven't meet anyone in RL so casually... There's a few commercials on tv that show some off-topic dolls (blythe), and a few odd items of merchandise at a dollar store (a mirror and a few notebooks) with the same off-topic dolls on it. I SO want a mirror with Too and Bee-A on it...

    19. I wonder if I'll ever wind up in this thread. I have photo stickers of my dolls plastered all over my "purse" (read: bright pink amo box that serves as a purse).

    20. That is so awesome that so many of you have had BJD experiences. I live in USA Northern California and I am positive there are BJD people out there. However, in the town I live in; not so sure. I have never ever seen a BJD outside of this laptop I am typing on. Temp: Your music video link was unbelievable... really beautiful and somewhat sad. I agree the BJD they feature in there was HUGE!! She almost looks like a small child - I wonder too what type of BJD? =)
I hope to be surprised by someone that is into BJD's in my everyday life, just like me; one day...
