1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Finding BJDs in the strangest places

Nov 29, 2007

    1. I was at a Horror convention, and I was expecting zombies vampires etc. And then all of a sudden at someone's booth there was two bjds (luts). They were so cute and unexpected! Me and my mom started asking them questions immediately, their owners were so friendly.

    2. Just a question for you all... It might be a bit off-topic, but...

I was just re-watching Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" video, and in the parts she's in a bathtub, with that outfit, doesn't she kinda look a bit like a BJD?

    3. Heh heh, if we had to vote on "which mainstream celebrity would be most likely to have a BJD" I'd totally put my bets on Gaga ;D

    4. Heh, just now I was reading a webcomic, and I saw someone commenting who had a doll as their avatar... His joints were covered by clothes and they had added photoshop filters to blur it, and at first I thought it was a human, but after a second glance I was like, "waaaiiiit, that's a doll!!" It looked like a CP doll :D

    5. So there's this little shop called the Junque Cellar on Whyte in Edmonton, and one time when I was browsing their wares I went over to this table covered in big picture earrings, and a bunch of them has Volks dolls on them! I was so super happy when I found them. xD

    6. Actually, yes!

I was at my local Joann's over in Willowbrook (just north west of Houston, TX), and I saw a girl wearing a lolita skirt near the pattern table.

I told her I liked her skirt, and I can't quite remember, but we somehow got on the topic of BJDs. She told me she had a Zuzu delf (I think), since I mentioned I had anthros. She then asked me if I ever went to any doll meets in town, to which I said I hadn't been to any in Texas yet.

I wish I'd gotten her DoA name or something, though I'm sure she's on here. Maybe she'll read this. ^^ Unfortunately this was probably a year or so ago.

    7. I went into a piercing shop once to buy some accessories and stuff. I happened to bring my boy out that day and I was carrying him on my arm. Then as I was fishing for my wallet at the counter, the cashier looked at me and said, "I love your doll, which company is he from?" I looked at her, absolutely surprised before informing her that he is a Dollzone Hid. She then proceeded to tell me that she owns a DOD Homme Ducan, who was sitting peacefully in the back room where the staff kept their belongings. XD

    8. Wow, BJD's certainly do show up in the strangest of places! I sell on Etsy, and have made a few friends there. We chat for a while, and then I discover that they have/ love BJD's! I've seen a lot of jewellery on there with BJD's on too!

    9. i guess this should count. i had known about ball jointed dolls for about a year, but really started noticing them, around last winter at the time. i had been really interested but couldn't commit to the price, since i had never seen one in real life, so i just looked at them all the time. one morning i woke up, and my mom and i start talking. she says "you know those ball jointed dolls you like?" me"yeah" well it turns out that two of my cousins collect them XD i was so excited!

it just so happens that my mom and i went up to my grandma's house where one of my cousins who collects the dolls also lives, and it just so happens they were getting ready for a doll meet that day XD so i got to see and hold my first bjds at my grandmas house XD

but yeah, i decided i had to have one after that :3 and now i actually am closer to family members XD so it is a win/win situation!

    10. a county animal faire a lady had a doll club table set up with 3 bjds set up at it

    11. I just started college and I'm taking a photography class, low and behold one of the images the professor shows as part of the introduction to the class is of a Blythe! Also upon joining DoA I finally learned that there is another dollhead living less then 15 mins from where I am, and several about 45 mins away! (I thought my best friend and I were the only dollieh freaks in Central IL.) Also my best friends mom has started seeing doll things when she is out, "will this fit your this girl? or do you think those would look cute on that one?" Totally awesome that there are dolls everywhere!

    12. I found an AOD Fei in a charity shop where i lived ~~~ I was like :O OMG :D

    13. WOAH! Seriously? Wow. Did you buy the Fei?

    14. I had a weird one just recently, actually. I just moved back to my hometown and got an apartment with my sister. Her boyfriend, Brandon, was over helping her unpack and kept staring at Mina (who was hiding out on top of a bookshelf for safety). Eventually he turned to my sister and asked her about it. She explained that I've "always had a thing for dolls." Imagine my surprise when he came into my room and asked me if she was a BJD! Apparently his dad has some on display in his dojo, but Brandon didn't know they made girls!

    15. Onya Yeah I bought her :D How could I not? :D I was so surprised to see her though ~~~

    16. Not sure if anyone's mentioned this, but I know Kerli has a BJD in one of her music videos. :D

    17. i always check the local goodwill, in hopes. i know my chances are slim to none, but one can hope! :3

    18. A charity shop wow!!! I wondered how that happened? Maybe a disgruntled boy/girlfriend chucked the doll in the charity bag as revenge? eek!

I've never seen an actual BJD in any surprising places, unfortunately, but there was a cheapy little shop for a while near where I lived and they were selling some plastic mirrors and combs etc with Volks dolls printed on them heh. I took a photo with my camera as I was so surprised, and pretty sure they didn't have permission to use the images.

    19. Kerli is (or was mainstream at least) that used at least over 20 bjds in one of her music videos and there's at least one used in all of her other music videos. I suspect she may have some. =]

    20. Finland! O.o
I did always know there were people with BJDs, it was my friends who introduced them to me after all, but it's really surprising how many hobbyists there are here! I think there are hundreds, the Finnish forum has 1500 registered people (of which not many are active). And there are four people in the town where I study ^^ It's kinda awesome!
