1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Finding BJDs in the strangest places

Nov 29, 2007

    1. That's so awesome! Congrats on your find!

    2. I got to art school, and so far I haven't met anyone who recognized the dolls in my works (besides one member here that joined the school this year xD ) so I was absolutely amazed that one of the women who does more administrative work recognized them.
We had an exposition with everyone in our year so we had to hang up work and also put out our portfolio's. I saw her looking through my portfolio and she was staring at a picture with a bjd in it. She was thinking for a bit before she asked if it was a blythe. I answered, no but they are somewhat alike. And then she said "are they those joint...jointed dolls?" and I was amazed and excited xD Apparently her daughter is into blythe and probably has been looking into bjd's as well. Totally made my day for sure.

    3. I'll second the BJD compact at Hobby Lobby! I actually got it so I could take pictures and find out what sculpt and company its from! And see if they had permission to use the picture. I've been told "its a big company, they check for that kind of thing so of course they have permission!" but you never know!

    4. I remember I was at Arden, the store for young adult/teenager whatever and I saw this keychain with a BJD print on it. I was really surprised to see that and I tought thats mean BJD become more and more popular :P

    5. I live in St. Bernard, Louisiana, and I have yet to see someone else with a BJD. I haven't even seen any in New Orleans, yet (besides at Mechacon). But there's an art store called Micheal's and I saw a compact mirror with what looks to be a BJD on the cover. When you move it around the eyes blink. I'm going to Mechacon this year and I thinking I'm going to bring one of my dolls.

    6. This wallet my friend owns :'D
She has had it for years now, and only recently I was like '... Wait, I never noticed that there was a BJD on this before? /facepalm'

    7. yea a 4H fair i never thought i would see BJDS at a farm type fair

    8. I saw a DD at a bakery once. Other than that, seeing BJDs outside of conventions are pretty rare. :<

    9. In my library!
We have a book/graphic novel by Victoria Frances, and i was shelving it and all of a sudden I was like.... Wait, this book is about BJD lol!

    10. My town is tiny and remote...and very West Texas. No bjd's in sight....but one day at the local dollar store I picked up a pack of erasers for my daugthers. They were kind of lipstick shaped, in a case. On that case is a beautiful picture of a bjd. I always loved dolls, I was hooked. I called my doll dealing friend to find out about the doll. That was years ago and thousands of dollars back....they are everywhere. I am so glad.

    11. In a 2004 Korean horror movie "The Doll Master"
I don't know, maybe in the previous answers someone has similar findings, but my phone is too slow for checking all 14 pages..

Actually it is originally mentioned by some friends of mine, sayings that the dolls I own is similar to the one in this horror film. Then it is confirmed by my doll-lover group, and so I decided to watch the movie and oh well...

    12. A wonderful online friend of mine turned out to have three dolls after I showed her my first! I never knew and we've been friends for years!

    13. Once, while attending class, I noticed a classmate of mine had in her possession a DollZone Annie. I promptly slid on my knees over to her and asked "Oh my GOD, is that a ball-jointed doll?!?" Yes, it was. XD A friendship ensued. Turns out, she owns almost thirty dolls!! Since that encounter we've gotten very close, and she's really provided a lot of BJD assistance for me.

    14. When I worked at Build A Bear I once walked into work to find a large BJD (I'm not sure which one he was) sitting by our register. Turns out he belonged to a customer who had to set him down to make a bear. Then, several months later a customer came in carrying several animal BJDs. I never expected to find BJDs at my work ^^

    15. Yes! I was visiting the Crow Collection of Asian Art with some friends a few years ago, and we saw two hobbyists with their BJDs. I was so excited to see people in the area that were a part of the hobby.

    16. Well, my very first introduction to BJD was pretty random. I wandered into our local Joann's Fabric, and one of the girls from my local SCA group was working there, we chatted for a few moments, and then she said," Have you met Nell?" and pulled a Lydia by Elfdoll from under the counter. I was like,

"What is that?!!! WANT!!!! Must Have!"

    17. I was in a store that sells strange Japanese things and I saw a tattered magazine (that was for sale) which had been man-handled by everyone and their mums. It was wedged in between a shelf that was too small for it so the whole thing was bent. It had a girl wearing Alice in Wonderland style clothing. So I flip through it and it was full of patterns for BJD dolls, but all in the style of Alice in Wonderland. So I asked the girl behind the counter if there was a new one, because, you know, no one would buy this tattered thing. She grabbed the magazine, didn't even bother to GO LOOK to see if they had anything in stock, and just shoved it back into its place. She said "Sorry." My immediate reaction to her treatment of the thing was to scream in her ear. But in the end I bought it. That's how I discovered BJDs.

    18. I play The Sims 2 and the first time I ever heard of BJD dolls was when someone who also plays The Sims downloaded some custom skins that were supposed to be dolls. I thought they were so strange and creepy. I didn't realize they were actual dolls.

Years later another Sims player showed pics of her actual dolls. I became interested and that's how I got into the hobby myself. Though I never did download those bjd skins for the game.

    19. Oh, my gosh! I wasn't there myself, but a year or two ago one of our local libraries had an exhibit where they brought in a bunch of fake trees and other plants. My mom happened to be passing by and saw a girl taking a picture of her two YoSDs sitting in a tree! She sneakily took a picture of the girl and her dolls and showed me later XD The funny thing is, I think I actually saw the picture the GIRL had taken on Tumblr a couple of hours before my mom showed me. How funny!

    20. I found a BJD at an antique shop once. Too bad I couldn't buy it ;;;
