It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Finding BJDs in the strangest places

Nov 29, 2007

    1. Went with my parents and brother to Sydney last year, and like all tourists, we made a beeline straight for the opera house. And guess what I saw? A girl hauling with a doll's trunk with her. She put a doll on top of her trunk and took photos of the doll with the opera house as a background @ @ I didn't go close enough to see its sculpt, but I'm pretty sure it was a boy. Gawped so much the girl glared at me. ^ ^;

    2. Haha, me too!! I have this crazy dream that someday I'll find a BJD sitting abandoned somewhere (sad, I know!) and I'll be able to rescue it or something... or I'll see someone walking around with a BJD, inquire about it, and for some random reason the person will give it to me ("Oh, you like these things? I won it in some contest for my girlfriend, but we broke up... here, you can have it..."). Wouldn't that be awesome?

In real life, though, I'm the only one I know with a doll, heh.

    3. Hahahahahahahahahahhaha wooooow... That so doesn't make sense... but yeah, it's an SD Volks model.

    4. we have a simi local doll group and we tend to meet up every few months but after a meet up about 2 years ago we went out to eat. While we were eating I happen to look up and there were two girls walking threw the mall and one girl had a BJD he was a volk sculpt i think I know he was wereing a dollmore outfit. We went over and talked for a bit and invited her to join us at a meet up.. never saw her after that but it was kinda neat seeing someone just carring one. My aunt works at the same mall and told me that there is a girl who carries those dolls around I beat its the same person but i don't know I need to go back to that mall LOL.

    5. as far as the doll found at a flea market... I'm sure stuff like that'll happen more often as we get older. Maybe they'll show up at antique type stores as well. I'm in my mid 30's and told my family do not just get rid of these dolls if something happens to me... still need to give them a plan with how to deal with them (ebay probably).

Has anyone found or seen any at those auction houses?

I haven't had any run in's (ignoring the large anime con in Baltimore)... but we have a pretty nice size group here in the Baltimore metro area, so there are a few meets by different groups here.
I wonder about what people think when they see the group of us invade a "coffee house" or a mall for a meet. I wonder if we should get a group "business card" done listing all the local meets and DOA, so we can give them out to future collectors.

    6. I saw something on the latest Mythbusters that looked to me suspiciously like gray BJD bodies with cardboard Adam and Jamie heads. o.o;; In the part where they put the test-dolls of themselves into their pykrete and super-pykrete boats. I dunno, they just looked to me a helluva lot like BJDs to me. It was probably the wrist joints and the feet that made me think that. I'm sure they weren't actual BJDs as we know them, though. No one in their right mind would put a BJD on a boat made of frozen wood fiber, right? And really, why would Mythbusters have them?

    7. Those are actually plastic artist models. My friend has one. They are composed of hinges though as so are more flexible than a BJD.

    8. Robot Chicken, everytime I watch, I'm pretty sure they use Obitsu 1/6 for the bodies...

    9. I *think* I saw someone two yearsish back on an airplane to LA. I was on the Southern Airlines flight and I was sitting there scared of flying. Then, I see someone putting what I think is a volks carrying case into the overhead. or getting it down. I just no my mind was on that the whole entire flight.

I never caught up with the person though. ;(

    10. at the first meetup we had in Brisbane Australia there wre only three of us locals there, when suddenly across the park we were meeting in came a girl crying out BJD!. It turned out she was a DoA member from overseas. Now of course I was expecting BJD but I bet she was not. Back then they were really rare in Aus, it was our very first meet in Bris, and well, she was on the far side of the world from home. Who would have thought she would stumble on our meet?

    11. For me, I once went to a meetup for an off topic doll (pullips) though I was collecting both them and bjds at the time. The meet was in a restaurant at Downtown Disney by Disneyland, and as a group we all decided we would get our picture taken with one of the dressed up cast members (Pluto).

Well, Pluto took one look at the dolls and started spazzing out (and they in character aren't allowed to talk), so she started whispering to the girl working with her who was taking the photos so she could "interpret" what Pluto was saying, and it turns out another cast member, and a friend of Pluto's (Daisy) collected BJDs, and she just thought that's what they were.

Other than that, my only other accidental finding of bjds was (coincidentally) also at Disneyland (a couple years later). Haru-Ru, Gauze -mode of eve-, and myself were hanging out at Disneyland with our boys out in our arms, and we saw a guy and a girl wearing "Free hugs" t-shirts walking our way. We noticed them and thought it was cute, but the second they saw us, the girl started giggling and said "Let me see the BJDS ^_^"- turns out she was a bjd collector from Texas.

^^; so yeah. 'tis all my experiences.

    12. I could have SWORN I saw an BJD body a few years back at an antique mall. I've been in the hobby for about four years, but I didn't know enough about them to know for sure (and whoever was selling it must have had an idea of the worth... it was 200$ or something like that... which could even be over-priced, depending on the mold).

    13. I didn't see a doll persay.... but I did see something that really caught my attention.

I was going to the student gallery exhibit at my school, obligatory since my work was in it, and I saw a piece I could not take my eyes off of. I swear to god that someone had painted the Bleu Citron mold from ND in their painting. I never did find out if they actually owned the doll, or discovered the image online, or was a doll enthusiast of any kind, but it was a fascinating thing to see nonetheless.

    14. I love Angelic Layer, and since getting into BJDs, I've been eagerly looking forward to the day that technology catches up to what CLAMP has been imagining for years. *laugh* Angels and Persocoms. How cool would that be?!

    15. A year ago when I was living in Chile, I went down the street to a little shop that sold odds and ends (I really mean little bits of all sorts of things) to pick up a few things. There was a little plastic kid's toy compact mirror thingy with a picture of a DOD Shall on the back. (Made in China, pic right from DOD's site) I thought about buying it at the time just for the novelty of it, but I decided I didn't like the copyright infringement and what was I gonna do with a little plastic mirror anyway?

    16. Two weeks ago, i went on a school trip to a place that was basically a flea market with stuff from all over the world and different performances. I was talking to some friends when one of them pointed out a girl holding a bjd, so i went over and talked to her for a while.

And a few days ago, i took my 7 year old sister to my favorite thrift/piercing place, she told me that i had to go see these things with my doll on them, and there was a jar filled with pins with pictures of volks dolls on them. I didnt buy any, but I may go over there tomorrow to get some....

    17. My country is small...and the doll community here even smaller...

So when I went out with my family to my sister's favourite mall and saw someone carrying a doll with white hair...I couldn't help carrying out my own doll who had white hair too.

I was too shy to go over to say 'hi' and all...so I took out Apollo in hopes of her noticing mine. And she did.

And in the same shopping mall, there's this shop that sell bags and card stickers. I bought their last DOD dolls card stickers. Black Elf Ducan, Homme Kiril and Homme Ivan. =D I didn't manage to get the girls though...some other person beat me to it...*_*

    18. I've got one of those card stickers. My friend bought it for me. And she gave it to me in class. I nearly squealed.

    19. It was not actually in real life, so I'm not sure if it counts.
I saw a photo in this forum just today, had a closer look at the background and was like "omg, you know this band". Picture was taken on a folk rock festival where I'd like to go myself. I'd never expect to see a BJD around there ^^

    20. At IMM?

      XD

Just last sat my friend and I found Volks dolls on small pin badges around her housing estate... Why the sudden usage of dolls I wonder...XD
