1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

First doll: custom or default makeup?

Oct 30, 2009

    1. With my girl, I was able to point out what face-up I'd like done. Afterward, I realized that, since I was planning on having her hair and eyes be so light, her dark makeup would clash and look awful! I was fretting about it for months until she finally arrived yesterday. When I opened the box and saw her, I swear my heart stopped! Her face-up turned out to be PERFECT and fit her hair and eyes so... so... well, perfectly! So I would suggest trying the default, because you might just be pleasantly surprised! If you really don't like it, you could always wipe it and get some help in redoing it. I would be wary about sending your doll off, because I hear that there's a lot of scams that happen in that particular area... Not that everyone is bad, but make sure you trust your gut (and the person you're shipping it to) about it!

With my boy, I got the default face-up (there wasn't an option to opt out, since he's a limited), and I love it to bits.♥

    2. My first doll. I liked his sculpt but I did not like the face up, so I had no choice but to buy him without faceup and I made my sister do the faceup for him he looked really nice I am happy I did it that way.

    3. My first doll has a default make up. And now, I am sending each of them to have a custom face up. They look more special with a custom face up.

    4. My first doll I got a default faceup and I completely regretted it. It was very pitiful and did not compliment his sculpt very well....lol he looked practically blank. So it was then that I decided I'd get my other dolls blank to save me the trouble.

    5. Two of my three girls have default faceups because in both cases they came with free default faceups and I haven't changed them yet. While I still love both thier faceups, I'm now wanting to get them custom faceups to better suit thier characters. In future, I would probably get a new doll blank because if I'm going to spend the 40-60$ for a faceup, I would rather get one done precisely how I want it. Since I've gotten most of my dolls second-hand from the Marketplace though, I haven't ever gotten a blank doll. It would probably freak me out for them to not have a faceup when I open the box!

    6. My first doll had company faceup! At the beginning I liked dolls with company faceup, but later I have discovered that I like my dolls to be special or.."me" so I do my own faceups now :3
Only 2 of my 7 doll have their company faceup. But some dolls I just want in in default faceup just because I just want to look at them (no story and so on)

    7. We went all out on my first doll, a fullset Dz Hid the Assassin. He's the only doll I've ever ordered with a faceup.

I love doing my own faceups now...so unless I buy a second-hand doll with the company default faceup, I wipe it clean and paint it how I want it to look.

    8. The first doll I'm adopting from a friend was blank initially but he did a good job on the custom faceup when I requested for it ^^

    9. I like buying my dolls blank because then you can customize them even more. Finding a faceup artist is half the fun.

    10. Well.. If the face-up isn't perfect to you, you should buy her blank. I'm sure you can find someone who is good at face-ups and can help you. It's cheaper too ;) Well, not everytime xD
Bu if I were you I wouldn't pay 60 dollar for a face-up who doesnt suit me. I'm waiting for my first doll and I took de default face-up because it was pretty ok (and free;) )

    11. my first doll is a VOLKS (which comes with the default faceup at no extra cost) and she'll probably stay with it for a while but I'd like to someday get her a custom faceup (I just need to find that amazing faceup artist I saw a few years) ^^

if you don't think her faceup is perfect then you shouldn't have to pay $60 for it, just order her blank and have a faceup artist paint her for you and her exactly what you want her to be

    12. Personally I am happy with factory faceups. I don't feel like I need custom makeup.

    13. My first doll I ordered blank so I could get a custom faceup because I had a specific idea of what I had in mind for him and I was not familiar with doing faceups myself. I have ordered default though if I think it fits the doll well and I want to keep it as a fullset.

    14. My first doll is going to have a custom faceup, since his previous owner ordered him sans faceup.
I'd say if you're unsure, get it with the default makeup. You may like it more in person.

    15. My first doll was keep his default makeup for 1 year until I decided to do it myself.
