First Doll Indecision?

Dec 12, 2009

    1. My first doll was an impulsive buy. For my second though I changed my mind like thousand times so I completely understand. And now I am searching the right mold for my third. I bet it will be as hard. But I think even if you doubt whether the choice was right, once the doll is in your hands in most cases you can´t help but fall in love :D

    2. i have been into BJD for two years and i just now picked on out. for the longest time i was gonna buy a bobobie because i didn't want my first doll to be that much money, but i didn't LOVE any the bobobies. Then i found out about planted doll, there prices are not to bad, and riz is the most beautiful doll i have ever seen. so i will be buying her soon :D

    3. I went through like... 10 companies to find my first doll. xD I have such a hard time buying dolls because I want so many different ones.

    4. My first doll I had *technically* decided on years ago :) (Although it was before I knew the company's wait times were so long ;n; Still, I think he'll be worth it <3)
Although... I'm utterly guilty of already saving up for another boy xD;; (I don't want my incoming boy to be lonely forever!)
I've already gone through a ton of dolls/companies... and I'm still indecisive on who I want to save for D:

    5. When I first got into BJDs years ago, I really wanted a Delf Soony! But after loosing a bit of interest due to lack of funds (lol), I backed off the BJDs for a while. But I'd always come back to BJDs after seeing them at Cons and such. But after much browsing and company finding, I actually found my perfect first doll! It was a DollnDoll Loren! She was amazing! Loved her to pieces, and looked great no matter what! So, yesh! She became my first doll! ^__^
My second doll was just as easy too. LOL. After looking through FAQs on dA, I found Crobidoll! Once in there, I FELL IN LOVE with Ys B type! I bought him about two weeks ago! Hoping he and my DollnDoll Loren will fit perfectly together. However, I think my next doll might have me a bit confused. I have so many I want, but so many I need too. Yeah, it's gonna start to get tough. XD

    6. Looking through owner pics really does help. I first wanted Kassia, but when I went on flickr and saw Bellosse with diffrent faceups I liked her better. I was almost decided on getting Bellosse when one owner said her feet where wider than the standard SD size and I decided to not get her.

    7. I didn't go through a million dolls. First I like DZ Megi, then DZ Fei, then DZ Mo, and then back to Megi who I bought. With all the new dolls companies it would probably be a lot harder to choose now than it was 4 years ago.

    8. omg i went through the same thing and a couple of those dolls were ones i wanted and i ended up getting my love, Yeon-Ho >w<
im a very indecisive person lol but i love my boy sooo much
and happy i chose him :D

    9. Yup. In just under a year, I have waffled so much. And that's not counting the time I first found out about these dolls and just sort of brushed them off!

It started about this time last year when Danny Choo got his Dollfie Dream Saber. She was totally unlike the early flat-faced DDs I'd first seen, and was one of my favorite characters to boot. But I blanched at the price tag-- close to $1000 original retail.

As he started posting more photos of Saber and the Aoi, I started reading up on DDs and eventually resin dolls as well. I decided that I was going to go the DIY route and get a blank DD 03/Yukino head and make her into my character Emryana, and thus amassed a huge archive of links for clothing patterns and wigs.

Then DD Fate came out. It was love at first sight, which is remarkable considering that "first sight" happened to be a set of three very grainy cell phone photos of magazine photos. But again her cost made me hesitate, and I also perversely felt like I would be betraying Emryana by getting a doll of someone other than her first.

I decided that DD head 03/Yukino didn't fit Emryana, and started looking at resin molds for her. I still haven't had any luck, even though I've been keeping an eye out for close to six months now. However, I did stumble on DoT E-An, who bizarrely enough looks exactly like one of my other characters, Stratosphere. I also discovered Soom Cuprit a couple months after her release, and found out that she cost over $700 for just her blank head, body, and a few extra parts! Suddenly forking out five to seven hundred for a fullset DD didn't look so bad. . .

In September, I had an extremely vivid dream that my parents gave me DD Nanoha as a present. I've got an active imagination, but I don't think I've ever had a dream that detailed before, since my dreams tend towards the bizarre. Her hair behaved exactly like it should have, for instance, and I even dreamt about the wire in her train while the rest of her clothes were normal fabric. Of course, later the dream went into this weird thing about gophers trying to take over the planet, but even through that I had DD Nanoha with me.

Inspired by the dream, I looked up DD Nanoha on Yahoo Auctions. I was surprised to find that she actually showed up for significantly under retail, something that I had never seen happen with Fate, Saber, or Mikuru. Between the good aftermarket price, the dream, and the fact that Nanoha and Fate actually have the same head mold, I came to the decision that DD Nanoha should be my first, and I've asked for funds for her for Christmas.

Of course, even after coming to that decision, I haven't stopped plotting other dolls on my wishlist. DoT E-An is still up there as a possible future doll, and I've also come up with plans for a custom DDDy Agatha Heterodyne from Girl Genius. . . .

Holy crap that's a long post. Behold the epic saga of Poofie's Indecision! XD

    10. I was lucky enough that my first doll was a gift. She was my Elfdoll Soah. At the time, I wasn't familiar with other dolls, so I'm positive it would have been much harder if I had to decide! Plus putting away money and stuff.

If I had to choose, I really like Luts Delf Lishe so I probably would have made her my first purchase :)

    11. :aheartbea Yeon-Ho

If your looking for a body for him B&G type 2 normal skin body looks great on him and on ebay can be bought for $235.

    12. It is a very good idea to do a lot of reasearch and be picky before you chose your first doll.

I knew very little about BJDs when I got my first doll. I had only heard of Volks before, and had only just discoved another site right before my purchase. If I had known about DOA I would have taken a lot longer in deciding on one. What I really really wanted, and still do was the Volks Hewitt (seriously, I pine whenever I see Jennifer Love Hewitt's name, or pass a Jackson Hewitt) but he was limited and sold out. While browsing DA I saw a link to Dream of Doll and I wandered through theirs. First I wanted Shall or Camine , but they had only just came out with their limited Tan DOT's and were more than I thought I wanted to spend, so I turned to the minis. Honestly, DOD's aren't really my favorite (adorable little buggers that they are <3) I felt I had to settle because of price, but I was perfectly fine and happy with that. So first I wanted a Yen, then I thought...maybe a Zen, then I fell for Si, then whent back to Yen again. But at the last second (exactly 8 hours before I had my mom send the payment)I ended up getting a Twingkey. I thought she would be better because she had a better chance of at least being able to embody one of my OCs, Adek, but it didnt work out. She did however, inspeire the creation of the character Faye, who in turn has inspired more than 28 characters. I have since sold her however.

I did end up going back and getting a U tho(second in my sig), and dont you dare tell him but he is my favorite of all my dolls and i consider him my first real doll because he was the first that I made an INSTANT connection with.

    13. I've been quite a lurker for years and I've looked through all of the companies that i saw at collectacy and i ended up buying AR LF Ami... :3 I really don't want to remember not liking my first doll and selling it after not bonding w/ it but who knows.

    14. I had planned for about 2 years for my first doll to be E-an Dot from Dream of Doll, I was absolutely dead set on her.

Then I got the money and bought a Dollfie Dream Yoko instead.

Well played... but I will get my E-an, it's just Yoko is much harder to get... (keeps justifying impulse buy to himself... though I do adore my Yoko)

    15. Nope! I knew who I wanted as my first doll. DOD E-an had been almost an obession I loved to look at for months before I saved up the money and bought her. Even after looking at many many many over companys I knew she the the one for me. To do it all over again, I'd still chose my sweet Anna. :)

    16. It was between a normal sad looking head and a vampire head for my Xavier. I could see a few more possibilities with the normal head. As it was a brand new company at the time there were no user pictures. Then I went back to the character he was going to be and saw that a vampire would never ever work.

3 1/2 years later he's still my angel, and when we have room for another his size we'll get a vampire.

    17. I'm having major indecision. I like so many dolls and I can't seem to pick which one is the right one to get as a first doll. I guess I haven't found one that just says "Hey! I'm your idea of a perfect doll." So many dolls, so little money.

    18. As someone who recently got her first doll, I can say that I had major trouble as to which doll I wanted first. A lot of factors like cost, size, guy or girl, etc etc gave me a headache, especially the fact that I knew that the next doll I would get won't happen for at least a long while. My doll ended up being a DZ Shoyo and I absolutely cherish her. Have no regrets whatsoever. :whee:

    19. First and second doll were relitivly easy. I used to really want a Sooah or Soah, but then I found Supia and saw their Rosy, and the Rosy's on this form and was like 0_o YES. And my second was a Ryu (who I got just recently, still waiting for his body to arrive) and I've wanted a Ryu since.....whoooo......a long time ago. I think now it's going to start getting harder. I have one character who I know belongs in a Supia Yisol. But the one after that is my Rosy's older brother, and the difficulty comes with wanting one that has similar sculpt style, but isn't as 'asian' since he's her half brother. . . but he still needs to look as 'realistic' and overall similar in style. So I have the criteria, just havent really decided on which doll fits that.

I can't afford another doll for a while, so I have time lol.

    20. YES!! I kept changing my mind!! There were three I wanted but couldn't make up my mind. Finally, I bought one and ordered the other two! LOL
