First Doll Indecision?

Dec 12, 2009

    1. At first,I hadn't thought I will get a BJD.....But when I saw dollmore-cold T-kara....everything was change...He is my first doll

    2. My first doll indecision was between RS's Ju, Lun and Ai. I decided on Ju because of the way I felt when I saw her with the white skin tone and teal eyes. But Ai is next on my list. I love her.

    3. I had a strict budget and a promise to my dad to take two months to really look at the dolls so that I wouldn't be all over the place and regret my decision. I only had two criteria at that point.
      1. it had to be a boy
and 2. it had to be a 60-70 cm doll.

which admitedly did cut down on my options enormously but I was about to give up and go with a DOD Luke version 1 because I simply couldn't find one that really spoke to me when I stumbled across the Ringdoll site and fell in love with Pan B.

Don't get me wrong, Luke is a wonderful sculpt and I wouldn't mind getting him sometime in the future but I'm really glad I found Pan to be my first doll.

    4. I honestly have waaaay more indecision now on who to by next than when I bought my first. With my first, it was either DoC U or Delf El. I decided on U because he was smaller, which I figured would help me get used to the size of BJDs.

Now I have seen so many different doll and have so many on my wishlist and so many ideas I end up buying completely on impulse and flip flop over who i should buy next LOL-

    5. it was really hard choosing my first doll. I got into the hobby more than two years ago, I saw several dolls on some site and went all 'wow, what's this?'
and then it started. I came here and everything was new and great and wow and I couldn't wait to get the first doll myself. I didn't have the money for a full doll. I looked around so many sites and found DoD's Sha as the doll I'd probably want as my frist. but he was sooo expensive. and I knew I'd also have to get him with faceup, since I had never done anything close to a faceup before and knew I'd mess up my first few attempts and I'm not too fond of dolls with horrible faceups xD

anyway, I had some funds back then and jumped on the train with grouporders and got myself two minimee heads. which I didn't like. I never did much with them, never gave them a good faceup and they just lay around my room unused and I didn't pay them much attention. that was two years ago.

after that I struggled with money and I wasn't so sure anymore if I would love a doll, really want one, because I never did anything with the heads and never really tried to save up for a body for them. my solution: only get a full doll
that way I'd be safe, I knew that, cause I had never stopped looking at owner pics and drool over the sculpts I love ^^
I still loved Sha a lot, but in the time since I first had heard about BJD's more gorgeous sculpts had been released and the list of possible boys to get myself grew longer.

and yet it all happened differently than I had imagined. just some weeks back I had saved up enough money to get my first boy (I'm currently seeling the two heads I got, I won't count them, cause they just never clicked with me) and I was browsing around all different sites again to see if there had been more boys released I didn't know yet. and yes, I came across Luts JDF Terra and BAM I had to get him, even though I was debating just hours ago whether or not to get Sha or Yeon-Ho now, which I had always favored a lot. and now I'm getting a Terra. he's ordered and paid and now I'm waiting for him xD

love at first sight with him I guess~ even though it took a long time and indecision to get here ^^'#

    6. I didn't really struggle that much. At first I was certain I wanted a Senior Delf Kara, a decision I made fairly quickly after looking at a few different doll websites. It was only when I thought about how much she was going to cost in total that I ended up deciding to get a smaller doll, as it would be cheaper, but similarly I decided pretty quickly on a Kid Delf Darae (I became a fan of luts sculpts almost straight away too).

I'm waiting for my Darae now~ But I am being very indecisive about what clothes to get her, but I have a bit of time to decide I think, and I might try and make them myself in the end

    7. Heh. At first I thought I would get DOT Code no.02 or die. But then I saw Illusion Spirit's Zhu Qing by chance and changed my mind right away. I guess that's not really "indecision" though...

On the one hand, it'll be hard to match other characters to his size. On the other hand, I just love him so. <3

Fortunately, at least one of my other characters is half giant, so a SD size isn't out of the question yet. X3

    8. I wanted an Luts Kara, then Island Doll Ellie, then an Iplehouse Freezia, then Iplehouse Tania, then Ringdoll Wagashi, then Souldoll Giselle (until I saw her uneven eyes:nowords:) and then finally ordered my Wagashi.

      Indecision makes me think.:)

    9. I'm still deciding. D: It's been months of /intense/ research, ex. spending hours and hours a day just looking at dolls that I've already seen many times. xD

    10. I've got several dolls now and I still worry about what new one to get. I always worry about getting one with a pretty face but terrible profile since most places don't take descent profile shots. I figure if I get one like that I could always sell it and get a better replacement. So far I've been lucky to get pretty dolls :D

    11. Try not to burn yourself out on bjds. It's always hard to choose the first doll, but you'll need to base your final decision on several factors. 1. Price Range + Shipping Costs, 2. Doll Size, then 3. Head & Body. (Look at the owner pictures of dolls too. Model pictures can be deceptive sometimes)

You can also buy second hand dolls. There's less options on what dolls you can get though. Sometimes they cost less or have extra items.

    12. Yes, absolutely. I thought I wanted something and then I saw a doll that I liked better. And that has actually been going on for the last couple of months. Then finally I couldn't decide between 3 different dolls.

    13. Anything under $1000 is in my price range. I've decided that I really want a doll at least SD size, 60+ cm, and I've been doing that constantly, searching up pictures of doll sculpts here on DoA ^^ It's still a tough decision, hehe =)

    14. I can say I definitely did more research for my first full-payment doll on who he should be than I did for the ones who came after him. Although I realized I fell for the company so my second doll happen to be part of the indecision for the first doll. XD I love both of them to pieces and part of me thinks that they look better than they do in the company pics. Maybe because they are here in 3D form and all. <3 lol

One thing I didn't think through enough is that I didn't realize exactly how tall a 70cm boy is. Especially if compared with SD or around 60cm dolls. My second boy is 65cm and he's considerably shorter (but wider built and older looking) so I would suggest looking more into height as well if you are planning them to be in a group or family. Especially if you have specific heights in mind set for them.

Good luck to all you first timers out there. ;D

    15. Well, I have my first BJD Dollmore Noir Hosoo on Layaway. I am also very interested in Dollmore's Basic Ramie. I think they are new BJD's on the scene. I only think that because I have been looking at them for years and never quite found one that captured my heart. But these two sure have! =)

    16. When I discovered the world of BJD I didn't mean to buy any but I sometimes asked myself: "Which doll would it be if you were to choose one?" I looked at different dolls and realized that most of them are beautiful, so beauty turned out to be a not very good criterion xD I chose favourite dolls only when I noticed that some dolls looked exactly like the characters living in my head and when I stopped denying the idea that my characters could be incarnated in dolls. When I stopped being afraid of that incarnation, I managed to choose what I like and I'm going to have.

    17. Oh it was SUCH a difficult decision. I noted to a friend that I liked Lati Yellow dolls because they had pretty faces, but then she showed me a picture of a Pukifee. I looked at a lot of pictures of both Lati Yellow and Pukifee dolls and finally decided that to me the perfect doll has neat joints, good posability and a pretty face. Pukifee bodies are just perfect. So my first doll was a Pukifee and she will be with me anytime between next week and the week after that! ^_^

I think people start creating criteria for their dolls when they are into the hobby for a while. To me as said neat joints are important, I don't like it when a doll looks torn apart when they're posing, and I'm sure other people develop their own criteria. And of course there should be (at least a spark of) love at first sight! :)

    18. I had a hard time deciding which one I wanted for my first doll.....but then my friend gave me a Pukipuki Madeleine as a gift and I was glad I let her choose lol. She knows my taste so well!

    19. I'm going through this as we speak. xD I mean, I know to start out I want a LittleFee, but I've been looking at millions of userpics and switching my choices...I first was set on Bisou, now Leah, and I'm now thinking maybe Ante or Ante elf...but they're both so popular, I thought Leah would be cool to have because mostly all you see are Ante's. And now I'm wondering if I even want a LittleFee, because I really want a DoT Homme Ducan O_O;;

    20. I was browsing randomly in google image search and the new Ophelia Licorice doll caught my eye. I was so in love, I had to have her. I was super-excited that I could actually buy this little piggy.
Of course, I never received her . . . BUT because of that, I discovered Alice Cherry Blossom. I finally adopted my little piggy and I love her to pieces.

I found out later that it's sort of unusual for your first to be so expensive, hehe. :3
