1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Flip Flopping

Feb 26, 2022

    1. Not my entire doll, but her faceup - my goodness!

I know deep down I'd be happier with a faceup that's more my style, but I'm somewhat attached to her default faceup, too. I'm also scared to send her off to another artist. For some reason, whenever I finally do manage to convince myself it'll be fine, some horror story happens to someone else and it's back to square one. :frownyblush:

On top of that, I can definitely be a bit of a control freak when it comes to my dolls' style, and I do not want to subject a poor artist to my "make it look exactly like this - EXACTLY like this" moods over something like the shape of the tip of the left eyebrow or something ahaha...I can already see myself typing out a two message long apology immediately after.

You'd think the real solution is just to do my own faceup, but I've never done a BJD faceup. It's been a while since I've done any type of doll repainting at all as well (to the point where I gave all my supplies to friends). There's nothing wrong with the default - it's very nicely done - so I worry that whatever I do won't be executed as well and I'll have wiped a perfectly good faceup for nothing. It's an ongoing struggle. I was really happy when I replaced her default eyelashes at least, so maybe one day I'll redo the rest. Or not. :abambi:

    2. I have the same issue :XD: but I’m a lot less confrontational so I would accept the faceup, it comes, and I already don’t like it because it’s not the EXACT way I imagined it. So then I remove it and send it to someone else because I’m embarrassed. This happened with one doll and she went through 2-3 different artists before I (and my bank account) have had enough. I finally got the courage to tell the artist to fix some stuff and the doll finally looks almost the way I imagined (I had to do some minor fixes on the lips). It usually helps if you include a drawing or add references when you request a commission. Also, I always tell the artists now that I’m particular and so it would be best to send me an in-progress photo before they completely seal anything.
Hope you finally get the face up of your dreams!

    4. Honestly I flip flopped on one of my newest dolls. She's blank and for a little bit I just felt so overwhelmed by how much I had to do to her to make her fit my vision that I was debating on selling her for a fullset. I've done some brainstorming, drawing and searching for faceup artists since then and I've started to feel a bit better about her. I've also made her some new eyes which helped me a get a bit of a better feel for where she's going and I love it. Fidgeting with appearance and outfits really help me when I feel overwhelmed
