Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. ~For Those Who Own a Single Doll~

Jul 27, 2009

    1. Since 2008 I've only had my SD13 Yori :) Whenever I pine after another I just can't justify the expense. The only reason I was even able to get her was because I was a teen with babysitting money and no responsibilities lol. It's easier to afford clothes and accessories this way too. I am very happy with my one girl :)

    2. Right now I only want one doll. So far he's the only one I need. No other doll has honestly grabbed my attention like he did.

    3. I only have one doll... To be frank, I only have one because he was a gift; if I had had the money, I probably would've bought two.

Despite that, when I first bough him, yep, it was, "I'll just have one." Now I'm already planning my second, though... and my third... and fourth... ._.

The only way I fight the urge is by not having money... Actually, I do have a bit of cash now and I was going to spend it on another doll, but my family is bombarding me with the, "Don't waste it," lectures, so I haven't yet. We'll have to see.

    4. I only have one BJD and I'm rather happy about that because I'm able to actual learn with her. What I mean being, she's my first doll ever that I've aquired here I get to learn what things to do for her, with her, what things that she needs, and how to make things.

With this baby, I can learn how to sew to help myself even more later when I wanna make my own cosplay's/outfits with her to match with me when I go on outtings with her.

    5. I only have one because I can't really easily afford more and I'm not extremely obsessed with the hobby to feel like having another one. Of course I see sculpts that I LOVE and want but I just say "one day". For now 1 doll is enough and I can concentrate on making that one perfect xD If I bought more I'd lose interest in the other ones because I'm just like that personally...

    6. I have one doll because i cant afford more right now I have a fantasy doll pamela and she is spoiled but I make most of her things myself and I keep myself from spending my money by having a savings fund that I pretend is a bill that I pay to every month

    7. I had only one BJD...until recently. From 2006 to this year, Marin was my one and only simply because of her sentimental value. I felt her worth so much, like no other could compare to her. And then, I returned to the hobby and caved and bought her some friends. I'm at a place now where I feel more confident that I deserve to have nice things. I have finally stopped travelling and hopping from home to home so I can care for my belongings in one place.

    8. I only have/planned on having one doll but I've fallen in love with 3 other dolls who will be coming home over next few months. I tried resisting temptation but caved in  However I don't plan on having many more as I don't want to feel overwhelmed by too many dolls & want to enjoy the ones I do have ;)

    9. I have one doll right now, and I like doing clothes and accessories just for her and pampering her <3 I have planned/thought about getting another one (or few =A=;) but at the moment I am content with my little one. Maybe in the future I will get another one to keep her company or do the little ice queen I have in mind (I am not sure about that, because she would just end up sitting in the bookshelf and look pretty)

But there is no hurry with that, because I am entertained by my fiance getting more and more dolls and fretting over the fact (and the fact that they are not complete) xD

    10. I really wanted just one doll for myself and a second one for my daughter, that's it.

But now that I am seeing all the pictures of the dolls you have here, I realise that, eventually, my daughter might find it more fun if I also had a male doll of the same size (to play prince, or evil mastermind, whatever children like).

I am unsure if I want to start again the long and complex process of finding a male doll that suits the many costumes I want to do. That's why, for now, I check all the doll pictures I see on this forum and take note which companies i want to 'keep in mind'. So don't be surprised if you see me ask you a question concerning your dolls ;)

    11. It's cool to see a discussion thread for us single doll owners ^___^

I've owned a single doll for almost a year now, I've been interested in BJDs for ages but he was the first sculpt that I really just had to take home. While I'd love to take home his love interest eventually, BJDs are such a major purchase that it might be awhile before I get a second; I want to be absolutely positive I want her before I spend the time and space on another big dolly.

I've certainly had the urge to pick up other dolls though! I guess I fight it with some serious indecision, and by having to save up. Even if I could maybe afford the frivolous spending, I prefer to buy dolls with money set aside week by week from my spending budget, so I have to really think about their worth. If it takes me a few months to set aside the cash, it's also very difficult to make an impulse purchase.

    12. I plan on buying a doll soon, but I can't imagine her being on her own forever. So, after I recover from the monetary exchange with her, I'll be buying a boy and seeing how they'll fit together. Then I'm buying a much smaller doll, just for fun.

    13. When I first got into the hobby i planned to only have two (still currently owning one though!) and have like a couple; well lets say it's not going to plan, I have another 3-4 in the pipeline!! Though I can't deny I do like having just the one at the minute because I want to spoil him and get him sort of 'ready' before have another; for example make sure got him a permanent body, get him a few clothes that we're his and only his, sort out his face up as the current one is in serious need of a repaint (it's not been done since 08 so got to give points for it lasting so long!) and generally keep building the bond as not only was he my first full doll but was also my grail doll. The plan for having a couple didn't work out and don't know if would do in the future as the next one i have in line is my boy's cousin, but like said I'm happy with the one at the minute!

    14. eventually, i would like to have more dolls. i have 3 more planned, possibly a 4th, but no concrete plans and no budget. i am content with 1 doll because financially, i dont have any other options, and that's okay. i waited for 3 years to be able to afford my one and only, and i know if i have to wait longer for others it can still happen. i havent really seen any one who fits my ideas, anyways, although there are some i would love to have just because of how beautiful they are. when i have saved enough money, i will start planning on actually BUYING a new doll. i dont look at dolls for sale often, either. looking at owner's dolls is usually enough to satisfy and desires for a new doll, as the desire is fleeting. :)

    15. I don't own a single doll but I have to say... sometimes I'm really rather envious of the people that do and cling onto that one doll and are happy with it. There are times I wish I could be that way and I've considered selling all my dolls too, then looking for just one doll to bring home and hold onto it, but then again I always realize couldn't afford selling even one of my current dolls. ^ ^;;; I'm too attached to them...

    16. I only have one at the moment mostly because I do not have the funds for another doll at the moment. Another reason is that any money that I get I can put towards her and developing her more and more.

    17. After 7 happy years in this hobby, I actually drastically downsized to get to just one. I felt that I'd taken my collection to it's creative conclusion and was to the point where the desire to pamper just one perfect doll was suddenly very strong. That's what I'd wanted to do all along from when I first joined this hobby, but I was seduced by the creativity of it all and all the lovely dolls out there. I spent years trying to assemble the perfect crew until my numbers reached 14. Once I did that, it was like they'd served their purpose for creative expression, and the culmination of it all was clearly my Dollzone Anson who encompassed bits and pieces of all the other's characters. Once I downsized to just her, I never looked back. There's a lot to be said for just having one doll. I can focus on her and everything she needs. I can delve far more deeply into her very unique character. I find myself doing a lot more with her and truly enjoying my experiences, whether it's adding to her display, taking photos or making her clothing. And all those other dolls I thought I needed so badly at the time, I find myself not missing at all.:)

    18. For the time being, I only have the one doll - a Fairyland MNF Seorin boy that I bought from a friend at the beginning of the month. I'm so madly in love with the little guy.

The only thing about Dylan is that I still kind of think of him as my friend's doll, and he is technically a character in one of her stories. So...I kinda have a hard time wanting to change anything about him, and I worry about dressing him in something that she maybe wouldn't think is right for his character. The woes of a second-hand doll I guess?

I haven't made any photo-stories with him yet, although I have taken plenty of photos. I'm finding it a little tricky to make up a story with just Dylan on his own. Maybe once my Resinsoul Mei and Song get here...

    19. My Unoa is a single doll for now but I'm planning to buy an SD by the end of the year. I'm still deciding what sculpt to get though.

    20. I'm ordering my first, and what will be my one and only doll, this week. I don't plan to buy any other dolls in the future. For me, I'm creating my oldest, and dearest character, and I will be spending my time and money pampering him only. :)
