~For Those Who Own a Single Doll~

Jul 27, 2009

    1. 'Ello, Oakie :)

Why do you only have/want one doll?
I only have my Kasimir right now since he's my first, and I, being the barely old enough for a job person I am, take forever to save up for anything big, so it's mainly because it'll be a while before I save up enough, and because I want to get some stuff for Kas first.

Have you had the urge to buy another doll?
Of course! The thing is, I usually don't have a ton of time on my hands, so I feel bad about leaving Kas by himself the whole day without me giving him any attention at all, so I'd at least want him to have someone else around. And because his character supposedly has a twin sister and (dead) younger brother, so I'd like to be able to reunite them.

How did you fight this urge?
Basically, I just think about all the stuff I need to get Kasimir first, and that usually does the trick, because then I get absorbed in looking for clothing or shoes that would suit him.

    2. At the moment I only have one on order, a BBB 1/4 Girl Mei in Beauty White, and I am itching for her to come.

But I know that she won't be my only one, as eventually I want to get some of the larger 70-80cm dolls as you can make far more detailed stuff for them, and I am a model maker. I might even make my own heads one day and have to buy bodies for them...

I know that by April / May I will probably order the BBB 68cm girl Chun in Normal Skin for my projected Witch Hunter Robin project, and once I have got her looking exactly like the girl from the Animé, who knows where that is gonna go. I might have to get an 80cm boy doll to do Amon, from Witch Hunter Robin, even though boy dolls don't interest me as much as girl dolls...

Or maybe I will do another 70-80cm girl doll as Miss Paper from Read or Die (the original 3 part series OAV not the more recent series)...

OMG I think I am gonna spend my life eating Tesco "Value" food... ;)

      Phil.

    3. I have just one doll, and I feel sad not having many clothing options for him despite having him since the beginning of October. There’s only one other doll I’ve ever want and that is the Asuka (from the anime Evangelion) dollfie dream because I love and collect Asuka merchandise and to have her would be an amazing addition for my collection.

    4. i used to want a lot of dolls, and once i got shion, he's the only one i wanted. i bought another doll recently, and i kind of wish i didn't. i feel that i can't give both dolls enough attention, and i'll always pick up one and leave the other. i feel bad :(

i hate carrying them around as well. they're both 60cm boys, and they are so heavy after a while.

    5. I've only got the one. I'd love to get another so this way I'd have a pair. However I spend so much time with him that I don't think I could have a second one. Besides I need a face-up done on him that I can't be out looking for another doll. Not until he's finished to my liking.

    6. I only have one doll because I'm new to buying BJDs, and have only had my first one a month or so. I plan to get more in the future, although they're expensive enough that it will be a while before I decide to get any more.

    7. I only have one boy, and like others have said, because I'm still rather new <3
I'd love to have more, though; but I already know now it'll be a slow process before I get others, despite how eager I am to build up my little resin family T__T

On the bright side, this means I can focus my attention on what I have, and learn more in-depthly about how BJDs work since I now have one in front of me that I can reference from~

    8. I don't have a doll, but when I do get one, it's just going to be one doll because I don't think I can afford anymore than one doll. Plus, for me it would just mean a lot more to me to have one . XD

    9. Why do you only have/want one doll?
A few of my friends got into the ABJD hobby a few years ago. They each had a couple of MSDs, and I liked them a lot, but I thought their faces were too childish. I knew I wanted a doll as well, but didn't want to spend the money on an SD (and was kind of freaked out by their size back then), so I did a lot of looking around and decided on a Dollmore Fashion Doll. I know that many consider these to be "fashion dolls" and not BJD, but they technically are ABJD - being that they are Asian made and have ball-joints, so I considered this a good stair step into the hobby. My doll was mature looking, beautiful, and yet extremely well priced. I bought her a year ago, and was happy enough with her that I didn't feel the need to buy any other dolls since I got her.

Have you had the urge to buy another doll?
However, moods change! I always planned on having more dolls eventually, I just didn't know when. I've recently overcome a lot of the reasons holding me back from getting a new doll (not being freaked out by the SD size, being able to commit to spending a little more money for the perfect doll, becoming enraptured with Iplehouse LOL), so I do intend to make my first purchase of an MSD or SD shortly.

How did you fight this urge?
I'm not fighting the urge anymore, since I do want a new doll now. For a year, however, whenever I thought maybe it was time to get a new doll, I naturally fought the urge. I didn't allow myself to spend money like that (even though I'm a college graduate and have a job), and I was simply too picky about what dolls I liked. I still am, really. I think a good way to steer yourself away from impulsive or compulsive doll buying is to get really picky about them. If you like a lot of dolls, scrutinize them until you find something about them you don't like. Then your list of desired dolls will shrink, and so will your desire to buy them.

    10. I have one because:
+ I just got into the hobby
+ It took me 2 years to finally have enough to buy one and still be able to pay my rent (but it took me two months to afford, separately, head, body, and eyes)
+ I have very little spending money to begin with
+ I can still barely afford to clothe the doll I have (he's naked and hairless, and I've had him for a little over a month)
      + I'm $3000 in debt!

I want two dolls for sure, but it's going to be a while until I can afford the next one. And anyway, I haven't found him yet. It took me forever to find my perfect first doll, so I'm more than okay waiting to save and find my next beautiful boy.

    11. My one and only boy is a Dollzone Yuu. Yes I do have the urge to get more dolls -as you can see below- XDDD
But I do understand what you mean about spoiling one. I have that thought a lot, people tell me "it's either spoil one or get more" XD and it's true!
But first of all, I don't think you should get your Viktor only because of his price. Save up for one that you really really really want, and then just have that one! Or else you'll be pining for it later ;D

    12. I'm afraid you missed out on some details :sweat
One of the reasons I got him was because of his price. Also, if I would have never gotten him, I wouldn't have ever found the one I really wanted. Or been able to get him, for that matter. And his name isn't Viktor >.<
Just wanted to clear that up~

    13. Why do you only have/want one doll?
I'm new to the hobby, so you need a doll to start anyway X3 But, I think that I may just stick with Caché. He's a handful already and I really don't have much room with all ym art supplies and school crap. Still, I really don't want to have him then sorta put him aside for another doll, I really want to it be just him. If that makes sence.
Have you had the urge to buy another doll?
Literally, the week after my first doll arrived XD I saw a thread of a meet and loooovveddd one of the sculps because it was perfect and i mean PERFECT for another charcter of mine that i may make a BJD
How did you fight this urge?
      I'm poor.
Hahah, no, I really just want my one doll, honestly. He's perfect and I don't anyone taking away any attention he deserves. I worked very hard for him and I have a huge attachment to the character he's modeled after so hes special to me. I don't want to sorta replace that.

    14. Well, currently I have only one doll, and I'm planning to buy another... withing the next 2 years or so. *_*

The only things stopping me are a lack of money to buy them/long shipping times and not being sure what kind of doll to get next. Plus, it might be best to to just spoil my current doll for a while.

    15. I only own one doll right now, my first SD and I often experience the urge to want to buy another one right now but I have someone on hand who talks me down quite well. I am going to eventually get another one because I'd really like a companion for my male doll but after some thought and discussion with the other half, I've pretty much decided that two is my absolute limit.

    16. I'm seriously considering getting down to just one doll, financial reasons aside, I'm finding that I just don't have the time for more than three dolls. I have one I absolutely adore and I'm probably going to try to get down to just him in the next month or so.

    17. Well, I only have one doll now, but soon I'll have another. When I got my girl, my roommate at the time also had one, so they'd play together. But now that she's moved away, and I don't live near enough to anyone in the local chapter of the community to set up regular playdates, my girl gets less attention. So I'm buying another, in hopes that having two will give me more cause to let them play, instead of just sitting around and looking cute. That's for some, but not for all, and definitely not for me - I like to play with my toys! (I guess I'm just a big kid, lol.)

    18. I've only got one....at home. >_>;;
I'm waiting for my 2nd to arrive but I suppose I'm still qualified to post here for now.
If I had more money, I would find it difficult to say no to a few dolls on my "fantasy" wishlist. But I'd actually be scared of having too many. They'd be too distracting for me I'd either be frustrated/guilty for not working on them or I'd not do the real life stuff I need to! Plus, I'd just be buying them because I like the sculpts, which isn't exactly wrong but they wouldn't be filling a gap in my creative options, I wouldn't be doing anything with them I can't already do with the doll I've got at home.
Having said that, my only problem with having just one is that I want to try out different styles, wigs, faceups and while I can do that a lot on one doll, she's always going to be a girl with a certain look about her. I just wanted a guy to buy/make menswear for and try out styles tht my girl just can't carry off.
When my next doll arrives, I'll have a boy and a girl and I think that will be enough diversity for me. I've just not got that collectors' mentality.

    19. I only have one, first cause I'm poor, and second cause there aren't that many that I actually like O_o so that makes it a lot easier.... I dont like most volks dolls, and I don't like ANY fairyland/CP dolls, so that cuts out a big chunk of the populars right there xP. I don't want anything smaller than an SD (with the possible exception of a pipos bao maybe.. someday.. but prolly will never actually buy cause its so much for such a small doll). so that cuts out... even moar!! And I don't want anything larger than 65... so between all those things, that takes a lot away from what I'd consider..

I'm a pretty thrifty person, and have a hard time spending money, so the fact that I even have one and he's not naked is really a shocker -_- because of this, it'll take me a really long time to get him to look how he's even supposed to, so I have plenty to do with one while I wait for funds to magically appear for a second. As for my second, I will probably get an MD Jina for a little brother, and after that, I dunno that there's that much I care about, even though there are other dolls I like. I think brothers are awesome though, so I've known for a while that I kinda wanted Allan to have a little brother.

I guess it is also even easier because my friend has a doll too, so Allan isn't entirely alone, and anyway her doll stays with me for weeks at a time just cause, so probably babysitting him takes the edge off xD

    20. why would you fight an urge to buy another doll? why, is it not okay to want and own more than one doll?
i had one doll for a year, and then on second year i got another, and on third i got another 3. it all happened very suddenly, really, i didnt even notice how i ended up with 5 >.<
but NO I WOULDNT FIGHT an urge to have more than one doll.
really, I cant think of a reason WHY would u??? just get as many as you can actively handle and take care of. and if at one point you think u've got too many, let go the one thats least on your mind and in your hands.
