~For Those Who Own a Single Doll~

Jul 27, 2009

    1. I can't imagine after all the weird stuff that occurred trying to get Clover (I got all the crap settled and the money went threw and she is being sent off tomorrow here to Canada)
if I get more, I get more-way of the dolls

    2. I only have one doll right now (and a floating head...lol), but I am seriously considering getting another one! XD
it really helps that my parents are so supportive, otherwise i wouldn't even have the one i have now! D8

    3. Greetings Oakie!

My original plan was actually to have two dolls, but I would take it slow. I currently only have my RS WS Mei (Arienette) and I don't know that I will ever be done spoiling her so I may never buy Song to go with her!

I remember when I first decided to take the plunge into this hobby and wrote about wanting only 2 dolls and no more and someone actually made me feel like the biggest n00b for thinking I could stop at just 2. I was so annoyed! The fact is, Nettles is so fun by herself that another doll would just get in the way.

I may get Song at some point down the road, but I highly doubt that I will go beyond that. Good for you sticking with just one doll!

    4. I only have one doll right now because of lack of funds haha! If I could I'd have them all. I fall in love with molds far too easily. So saying "just one" about buying a doll is like saying, "just one more breath" haha.
For instance the Luts KDF Bory? >> I plan to have 3 of them. Tripplets. Two boys and one girl. Why? Because I love the mold so much. @@

Right now thoguh I do only own one of my three wanted Borys. :3 And before I get them, there's a couple SOOMs that I want.
But I know what you mean, by saying you want to meet more owners with only one doll.
I have had only one doll for almost a year and a half, and it's a lonely place I tell ya... *sad* Though I'm sure people who have one, and want more know exactly what I mean.

      Haha~

    5. I was a one doll owner until I converted my fiance and best friend into dolly decadence! However, prior to the plunge, I was utterly and happily content with just my Marie. Like you, I just couldn't grasp my head around the concept of having more than one doll due to the prices they cost. I feel too that my dolly "relationship" was stronger and more intimate with just one doll (okay, sounds weird, but I definitely am not meaning it in a pervy way) as I could just focus on her and accessorize her as I please. And really, having more accessories for my Marie made it easier to stick to the one dolly mantra as I could change up her look but she was still my Marie.

My breaking point was when one of my best friends got hooked into the hobby because of me and she got some gorgeous LEs (yes, more than one). Then my fiance got an LE and said that he was intending to get more (a couple he showed interest in were also LEs). I felt left out because: one, I only had a basic BJD and was trying to keep to just one dollie, and two, I was surrounded by loved ones that were into the hobby, had LEs, and were not intending to stick to just one. I was surrounded by "it's okay to have more than one" even though I was happy with just one. So beware of this and stick to just one!!!

Honestly, the best way to keep being a one dolly person is to have a good group of friends and family that are into the hobby, have dolls themselves, and are also are keeping to the one doll mantra as well. My fiance and I have a combined collection of 3.5 and they do not get the same attention as my Marie did when I only had one doll. So stay true to yourself, have lots of BJD playdates to get the itch for more out of your system, and enjoy Viktor as much as you can. :)

Ah, yes...I saw that you found your dream doll and are currently awaiting your second doll. Haha, I applaud you for trying though like most of us did at some point. :) But really, if it's your dream doll, don't deny yourself because of the one doll rule or else you're regret it for the rest of your life as there may never be an opportunity to get and it's too heart-wrenching to switch out your original doll for the new one. So enjoy the hobby and please post pictures of your new one. =D

    6. Actually, there's a funny story; I had previously fell in love with a sculpt. Of course, I pushed it to the back of my mind, especially since I couldn't get him at the time. Conclusively, the boy on his way here isn't my dream doll; he's staying in my wishlist for now :sweat
And when the day comes, I'll go camera hunting. I hope my parents know where they put it...

    7. :3 Actually, I have had multiple dolls, and have settled with only one. I decided to get my dream doll, the Volks SD10 Kurumi, and I wouldn't have any other, especially with where I am financially at the moment! I'm a college student, so I'd rather spend all my time/money that I devote to the hobby on spoiling one doll that I really love. I've had more, and I just couldn't handle having so many! I'm so relieved to have only one very beloved doll. <3

    8. Well said (from one Kurumi owner to another)! And once you're done with school you can always get more dolls later.

    9. Hi Oakie,

I'm have a single girl AoD doll and she is all that I need at the moment and for the foreseeable future . I am new to the having the BDJ and I'm still trying to fill her out so I don't plan on getting other one (I'll be to overwhelm). But maybe after I graduate, which is a question mark for me, and get a job I might start thinking about expanding a family depending how her personality is and her back history.

    10. I have one doll :) I just got him in this month and I absolutely love him!

When I first told my self I wanted to join this hobby...I knew it was going to be expensive and it probably would suck me dry after purchasing him. I bought a Resinsoul Gang...which is actually a really cheap doll, but for me who is a full time student in college...he was expensive. I had to save up for him, and I also used a part of my tax return to pay for him. After purchasing him I am really happy right now. I have been making clothes and jewelry for him (to help save money), but I find myself wanting to buy him other clothes from companies as well as accessories. Another hard thing I am facing is that I have been looking at other dolls...lol I really want a girl now too. I am trying to reason with myself because the girl I want is twice the amount my boy was. I sit back and think...dang....500 for a doll? But I look at my Kai and I just laugh and think "It is so worth it!"

But for now it is just my one doll, and I am really happy every time I get home from school and see him sitting in his little chair.
I have my youtube channel and my deviant art that are now filled with videos and pictures of him :)
      I am super happy :D

    11. Oakie: I have the same problem as you; I feel guilty having more than one of something! I once had two gerbils and I liked one more than the other, and I felt soooooo bad that I vowed to never have two of something again! I even decided to sell my car because of my restoration project. I would feel bad driving one and not the other. So, at the moment, I have one (off topic) Pullip and I have a Felix Brownie on the way (day 64, woohoo!). I do make clothes for them, so the size difference is important so that they both get proper attention.

    12. I also currently have one doll due to time and budget restraints as a student. I feel very content with him (iplehouse mars) and don't plan on getting another in the near future. May be in the far far future when i have a real job lol

    13. I had planned to get Clover and have just her, but I got a terrific idea for a photo story and if I ever wanted to do it I'd have to get another one (so she can play the other character) but first I gotta let Clover actually get here-she's on her little doll way though...

    14. I own a BBB Mei, named Ophelia.. And honestly, I'm planning to get her a brother. I know that she was expensive, and waiting for her made me near panicking, but... I think its like childbirth, I don' remember the pain. Hahahahah!!
Honestly, I was going for cheap when I got her, and I feel a little bad about it. I really hate BBB bodies, and I feel like I wouldn't have gotten her if I invested more time and money into it. (Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trade my baby for the world, and now that I have her, I do love her dearly)
But now that I'm a little older, and waaayyy more experienced, I am looking more into the bodies and quality of the dolls.

    15. Currently only own one doll, but just waiting for the right one for my second. Buying from second hand market is too expensive!!! I almost got around making my own until I ended up selling an extra body I acquired.

    16. I only have one doll at the moment, AoD Wang-Zi on a female body, and I am totally in love with her. I think someday, in the far, far, far away future, I would like to get her a brother or sister, but for now she will be my one. I don't really have enough money to get her proper clothes at the moment, nor enough time to make her many either. So for now one if more than enough. Plus, I'm still getting over the fact of how much she cost... and she was a "cheaper" one. "XD

    17. One of the reasons I joined DoA was to get info for the second doll. My "problem" is that my first, to me, is the perfect BJD. I am older, with a job, so money isn't a real issue.

But as far as my "doll family" is concerned, Lydia (Elfdoll, 1st ed) will always be my girl.

    18. I'm just starting and have only one doll (my lovely Luts Ani Kid Delf) and it took me a long time to pick her out. She was a present from my best friend - I might still be trying to decide if she hadn't gotten her for me for Christmas! LOL It seemed like a momentous decision but I am so very happy that she is the one I decided on! So far I like having only her - getting used to her, got a faceup on her and making clothes for her (buying shoes and wigs too). I look at buying other dolls, but like some of you mentioned - the cost holds me back. I don't mind one doll right now because having different eyes and wigs makes her seem like many dolls all in one, which is one reason I really like BJDs so much. A new wig and eye combination makes it feel as if I got a whole new doll and dressing her up in various outfits makes them look entirely different with different hair and eyes. For now one is good for me - but it would be nice for her to have a friend to interact with too for her photos.

    19. One doll is more than enough for me to handle, for various reasons: money, space in my room, not much time to dedicate to this hobby, and the fact that in 5+ years of being interested in BJDs I only fell "in love" with 2 headmolds.

    20. Hi! At the moment, I have one doll. She's a DZ Shoyo named Jaida. I would love to have another doll and often lust after them but what keeps me from getting another is lack of funds. I don't even have the money right now to get Jaida a new wig, sadly.
