1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Friends flippantly joining hobby?

Oct 2, 2010

    1. I wouldn't have an issue if a friend bought the same exact sculpt as I have. If they TRY to copy my doll, then heck yeah I would be mad.

    2. Actually, yes. And I don't feel childish because of it.
I have a friend who joined the hobby about 3 months after I did, and I was excited to have someone to talk about BJDs with. She couldn't afford her own doll, and she has always been really low on money. Her father works really hard for his money, and they have always had money problems and health problems. So any money they do have is saved for if anyone gets sick.

So when her father got sick, her rich grandmother insisted on spending a lode of money on her and her sisters. Both her sisters chose clothes, and she chose a Minifee Ryeon, much to everyone's disdain (if you think about her situation, it is a little selfish). She excitedly waited for her arrival, and when she got her, she had saved up money for the doll's clothes. But she never bought any. The only clothes this doll (costing 450 including shipping) had were old American Girl clothes.

I let her use my face up materials to do her face up, even offered to give her pointers because it was her first time, and she declined. I love this friend. So very much. But that was the worst face up I had ever seen, but she was proud of it, so I was happy for her and I didn't say anything.

She has been there for more than a year now, mostly sitting on her dresser untouched, or at my home, being babysat and played with. Everything she owns for her doll now are hand me downs from my dolls, which I don't mind. But still, the feeling stays that she just isn't responsible enough to own a doll, much less a 400 dollar one that sits on her dresser while her poor father and only care giver is slowly dying of cancer.

    3. Have you ever turned a friend onto the hobby?

Yes, I have a few but I also took up this hobby because of a friend ^ ^

And resented them for it afterward?

Nnnnnope~ Still love them, all of them <3

Has a friend ever bought the same sculpt as you?

Pfffft. Me and my best friend sometimes have very very simillar tastes xD; In the end, we decided to make twins. We currently have...2 twins and there's another one in the plans~ We were going for another pair of twins, but I thought we had enough of them and decided on a very simillar sculpt (since the charas are twins). Other times, one of us just backs off from the sculpt and lets the other one have it. One time, we thought of a two-charas-in-one-doll or something because it was a limited...

Did it almost make it feel less special if someone close to you just decided to get it, the first doll they ever saw, because it was 'pretty?'

No. Not really. I actually thought 'I know right?!' when my friend said she wanted the doll I wanted haha. In the end, she bought it (because it was cheap actually) and thanks to her, I realised that that size was not as much fun for me ^u^ So I removed that dolly from my to-buy list~
