Gender Preference?

Feb 16, 2017

    1. I've been in this hobby for 9-10 years and I had always preferred boys. I thought that over the years, I would at least fall in love with some girls especially when I collect other type of non BJDs that are all girls. However, no matter how hard I try, no matter how attractive the Resin girls, I still prefer boys. The Volks Dolpa in LA just ended, during the Dolpa, I learn something about myself - all the beautiful one off resin girls did not move me, strange as this may seem, my love is still with the big boys. I am not understanding why this is so.

    2. Mostly males, the females tend to either be unrealistic or just not appealing to me. But everyone has their own preferences, and I have seen some beautiful female dolls!

    3. I have to say personally that I adore adore the boys. It's the tomboy in me who always has to hang out with the boys. But I also adore the girls as I get to dress them up in cute outfits. At the moment I've only owned girls only because I find that the boys are harder to find. ^^;

    4. I always gravitate towards the girls, especially ones with big busts ^^; I guess I find them the most aesthetically pleasing? Also, as a girl myself, I love dressing them up in the kind of things I wish I could wear in real life! I do want to add a boy to my collection eventually though, I just haven't come across the perfect sculpt yet.

    5. I think I definitely prefer girl dolls, though I'm not sure why XD I only want one boy doll so far but like 5 girl dolls lol

    6. I don't have a simple gender preference, but my tastes run to extremes. I want either 70cm bishounen beauties or little elfin YoSD sprite girls. YoSD boys and large girls generally bore me, as do MSDs, for some reason.

    7. Boys, boys and only boys in SD size for me. The main reason being their aesthetics appeal to me more than girls.

    8. I wish I could have healthy mix of both but I have tendency to favor girls more for some reason :(

    9. Personally, I prefer boys. More of their sculpts appeal to me. My mom (who also has an interest in the hobby) always says "Why do you only buy boy dolls?!" because she wants to make dresses for the girls, haha. I would say I'm picky with the girls, but I'm also picky about the male bodies as well, so it's just the faces, I guess. Recently I've gotten a few more girls and am waiting until I can afford one SD girl I've fallen in love with.

    10. I have no preference for yosd and msd but for sd I prefere males

    11. I have a pretty even mix of genders, but I favor girls. I'm a girl so I better connect with girl characters, and I've found more girls I like.

    12. I started out as a barbie collector, so maybe that influenced my love of female dolls! I think I have one ken doll in my entire collection, and certainly no male bjds. Maybe I will get one someday, but I doubt the number of male bjd will ever exceed the size of my female bjd collection.

    13. I used to think I didn't have a preference either way, but now I'm noticing that nearly all the dolls I'm thinking about getting in the future are girls. I've always found females easier to draw and easier to design costumes for, so maybe that's why I also find them easier to come up with doll concepts for?

    14. For me it really depends on the sculpt as to what I like. I have zero preference for gender probably because I myself am Agender. So it's just like, meh? I currently have two girl dolls, and am hoping soon to have a third male. If anything I'd probably strive for balance in my collection.

    15. Ill be getting my first girl but Im sort of in love with the boys..their faces seem to have more character somehow & they have by far the sexier faces & eyes but why I dont know but I think their clothes would be more limited to a girl & I also like sewing.

    16. I prefer boys! I've tried so many times to own girl dolls, but nothing ever seems to really click between me and them. I love their outfits (the frilly dresses, cute accessories, etc) but I can't get away from feeling like the girl dolls are too "Barbie" to me. I owned so many barbies when I was little that I somehow associate them with female BJDs, despite knowing they're so very different.
The boys are so incredibly different from Barbie (And Ken) that I love how aesthetically pleasing they are. Ken never had the "equipment" guy bjds do, or a gorgeously sculpted body. He never came with a perfectly sculpted chin, or veined hands. I feel dynamically that so much is put into the guys, that's really lacking on the girls.

    17. I totally agree with you that boy dolls tend to be more dynamic while girls bjd's seem to be more "cookie cutter". I have noticed that especially with the faces of girl doll's. There seem to be a lot so similar to each other, hard at times to find one's with distinct looking facial or body traits.

    18. That's probably why whenever I consider getting female dolls, it is almost almost for sculpts meant to be male.

    19. Maybe its because as females we arent suppose to have veins showing & all the stuff we love on the males bodies..wonder if they made a porky male anyone would buy him...lol...Oh well Ill just dream of themale doll I want..I saw a gorgeous Soom one today but cant remember his name but he had a scar on his eye.

    20. I have 50/50 on my wishlist. But if I have to choose one over the other, I'll choose boys/men. Easier to find cool clothes and easier to take awesome pictures.
