Gender Preference?

Feb 16, 2017

    1. Hi so im just curious and i dont want to start a riot but im just curious about the what sexual orientation does the majority in the group have and does it affect the buying decisions fir your dolls in terms of gender?

For example, if you are a gay guy, do you prefer buying guy dolls as eye candy?

Just curious and i dont mean to discriminate so if this is a tabo topic please just tell me!! =)

    2. I've never really thought of this before. I'm gay ciswoman and mostly buy girl dolls.

l like dressing them in cute clothes. l really don't think its connected in my case.

    3. I’m female and straight, and I mostly buy male dolls. I have more male than female characters, so that’s part of it, but also I much prefer looking at men than women, so if I’m going to buy a doll because I like the look of it, it’s probably going to be another boy. The same with my minimee dolls: they’re all boys.

Also, since I’m a total tomboy, I prefer men’s clothes (on me and my dolls). I recently found an exact doll replica of my old denim jacket, and had to buy it. I also like their shoes better, particularly the boots and trainers! Even my girl doll is just in jeans, hoodie and trainers. I’ve got no interest in dresses and girly clothes!

    4. I'm an androgynous female and I'm asexual. I don't feel sexual appeal to anything, so I can't relate to most of the eye-candy thing. I do, however, like things that are aesthetically pleasing. Thus far I have mostly female dolls, but a lot of that is because I only buy secondhand at the moment and have only really found female dolls I've liked. Both my grail dolls are male though.

    5. I'm asexual and I buy all male dolls. If my collection were the way I wanted meaning I could buy all my dolls at once I would have a mixture of more feminine to masculine men. It would depend on the character. I also shell only gay characters as I'm strongly connected to gay romance despite not being gay myself. I think you'll be surprised at the answers you receive from this thread aren't as straightforward as you would assume ;)

    6. Hahahaha so far ive read some interesting insights! I forgot to post about myself!

Im a straight female and i buy female dolls. Though i lean more on anthros but i usually still get anthros that have female aesthetics!! I dont like getting guy dolls since i dont like it that they arent smooth down there!! and im also not into boys love since im more a shojo type girl so i love matching males to females as love partners but i just cant seem to get a male myself!! Hahahah

My doll is currently in a LDR with my friends doll!!

    7. Haha, and this is a thing that I really like in male dolls. I've seen some sculpts that are smooth "down there", but I wouldn't buy any ot them. When I was looking for my doll, I choose the sculpt that looks quite realistic there (you can see a penis if you look at doll from the profile).

      I am a straight woman.

    8. I never thought about sexual orientation having to do with my hobbies, but then again I've been an asexual female from the day I was born.
I collect mostly male dolls of this kind, but I have a lot of female dolls of other types. I don't feel like it has anything to do with my sexual preference,
I just find certain types of male dolls more interesting than females (particularly BJD and anime or action figures).

    9. I agree, in the sense that I buy more realistic dolls and it’d be weird if they didn’t have genitals, in the same way it’d be weird on any realistic sculpture. That’s said I find the people who pose their dolls in sexual situations hard to understand. To me they’re sculptures or toys and not sexual in any way.

    10. I'm a bisexual female and my collection consists of both male and female dolls, but most my characters are not the types I'm normally attracted to. I do have more girls (and plan on buying more) right now, but that's because they are easier to dress. There aren't many outfits for guys that fit my aesthetics

    11. Straight female who collects only female dolls. I don't like male dolls, at all. I don't like yaoi, shoujo or yuri. I only buy what I like, realistic or fantasy doesn't matter.

    12. I am a straight woman (maybe bi-curious, if the term exists), and I appreciate girl and boy dolls in the same way, even if for different motivation and features. I have slightly more female dolls than male ones, but mainly because collecting only tinies and Minies I have hard times in finding male sculpts that really appeal to me. I don't really like very child-ish looking resin boys, unless they have bold, unusual features (like my Dollzone Freddy, with his droppy cheeks), and so is rare for me to fall in love with the average Mini boy.
My female dolls have more outfits than male ones, but only because sewing a dress is easier than sewing a button down shirt! I planned to sew a lot of glamouros, unusual outfits for my resin boys but I never had enough time and this makes me somewhat sad.

    13. I’m a straight woman and I always buy female dolls.

    14. well i'm a straight female girl and i bought more male dolls compare to female dolls.

    15. I am a hetro cis female, and I don't really have a preference for male or female. At the moment I have four confirmed females, one male, and three that have genderless bodies.

It's all about the aesthetic for me. If I think they are cute, beautiful, or anything else, I'll get the doll. I also tend to get dolls that have something unique about them or their sculpt, fantasy or otherwise.

@Spuggey, and being a tomboy also I do prefer dressing girls. Since I wear 'cute' girly clothes on very rare occasions it's fun to finally dress something up in that style. This being the total opposite to you, lol.

@Skolopendrokot this might be the reason I only have one male doll. I want to be able to prove to someone that when I say they are male, they are male(Not that a penis makes anyone male or not). And realism is a big factor. Dollshe boys might have everyone beat in that area, lol.

    16. I'm panromantic asexual and I have a slight preference for male dolls.
The main reason for this is not my sexual orientation, tho. It's a purely aesthetical decision. I'm mostly drawn to more realistic dolls with interesting features, such as unique noses or prominent jawbones/cheekbones... stuff like that. I often feel like the female dolls have a tendency to represent more conventional beauty ideals, such as soft features small noses big foreheads etc. I mean they're pretty but there's just not as much appeal in them for me.
I don't want to generalize things and there's some really awesome and unique looking lady sculpts out there as well, it's just a bit harder for me to find the kind of female sculpt I'm looking for.

    17. *edit* post # 221 was merged into this thread along with our replies to it so that is why some replies after that suddenly speak to the gender and preference of we humans. :wiggle

I'm a straight, very girly cisgender female. I have both male and female dolls but I started out only liking the girl dolls. I have slightly more fun with the female fashions and stylings and tend to leave the poor males in their only 1-2 outfits so far! But I really choose a doll on its own merits rather than by gender, I like to paint both, and I love looking at ALL kinds; the animals, the anthros, the classics, the wonderfully strange ones. I don't like the boys as much as the girls from my favorite sculptor by far.

The shoujou feeling with the lovely girl and a beautiful bishounen is something I like, but I also like myths, faery tales and lore stories just as much too, and add a pinch of gore, various references to performance arts and fine arts thrown in and I have fun. I find many male bjds every bit as "beautiful" as the females.

I think of my current collection as a sort of Troupe that is finally beginning to assemble and make sense, each doll is a part of the whole that is coming into a balance with a little storyline this year, finally. I am 9 years into the hobby with long-ish breaks here and there but I collected smaller Volks and Obitsu before resin bjd and Barbie and Gene, Alex etc. before that, mostly sticking to female dolls exclusively with only a token guy here or there.

    18. I'm asexual (more or less, that's tricky for me), I have a romantic preference for women (Though I'm open to both genders), but almost all of my dolls are male. :XD:

I would put this more on my preferences for story, rather than anything about the dolls specifically. I love male/male love stories, because I love seeing emotional depth in male characters that I don't feel I often get to see in mainstream media-- I get tons of it in independent stories and webcomics, though, and I eat those up! The stories that I write for myself are all based around m/m romance. It feels better, more comfortable, in my mind to focus on male characters, but I think I have a more fluid gender identity anyway.

The characters I made up for my (male) Delf and my Migidoll boy are in a pairing. The actual dolls are probably going to look really strange together (I don't have either of them yet), but the characters I'm working on for my female MYou and my male Doll Chateau are also in a pairing, and I just can't not put them together anymore. :nowords: I'm sure that if I had two female dolls whose characters worked well together, I'd put those together, too.

I do pick dolls whose looks I like, though. It feels weird to say it that way-- I think the dolls are cute, handsome, or pretty, and I would admit that my definition of "attractive" for actual people often comes into play. I don't have a lot of female sculpts I like because I want girls who have beautiful curves and more mature faces-- not the doe-eyed, baby-faced options I come across more often. The companies who do have the types of dolls I want often look too realistic for me, though... Because I also like that more stylized touch. I just can't be pleased. [/massive eye roll]

    19. Hahahahhah omg i saw some i think by DF-H, the body has like a way to erect the penis area!! My mind went blank when i saw it!!!! Hahahahahaha *seems penis' can have joints as well:cool:

    20. I only buy dolls that match my acethetic.

Puns aside, I'm am asexual female and I don't think that has anything to do with my doll choices at all (keyword here being mine, I can't speak for others obviously). I have mostly female dolls, because the majority of my characters are female. It's what I can relate to most easily, I suppose. I think both female and male bodies (in both actual human beings and dolls) can be aesthetically beautiful, even if I'm not attracted to either, though I'm not overly fond of full nudity when it comes to men. I do find myself having a harder time finding male dolls whose faces I like enough to buy, regardless of what the bodies look like, so that's also part of the reason why I have so many girls compared to boys. Even though I have boys I do want to shell into dolls, I don't do it because I rarely ever find a doll I think is suitable for the character/my aesthetic preferences.
