Gender Preference?

Feb 16, 2017

    1. I prefer boys because I hate sewing to accommodate hard resin breasts.

    2. Mostly girls... only girls? I don't dislike boys I just generally find their style "boring"? And I know it sounds silly because you can do whatever you like with your doll. But I just feel I wouldn't know what to do with a male doll. How to style or paint it. I like colours and frills xD If I had someone to paint a boy for me and dress him up for me then sure I'd play with him as well. But to me it's just difficult and not as interesting as dressing up a girl.

    3. Boys, girls, tiny cute animals, anything goes! So far my gender stastics are pretty evenly split with one lady doll and one gentleman doll.

    4. I think that I like female sculpts the best, generally, but I should probably get a male doll too. I guess it's because the clothing I like is so intricate that it looks better over a body with breasts and defined hips? I mean, half the stuff I'd end up making for a male doll would end up looking like crossplay anyway...though that might be a neat challenge, trying to make something weird enough to please me, but still masculine.

    5. I love boy dolls because they're like my cute little babies, but girls are so gorgeous and glamorous. I think I like boy sculpts more just slightly, like maybe 58% vs 42% :whee:

    6. I've somehow always loved girly figures, characters, and so it is with dolls.
probably it is just that i love frilly dresses and cute accessories.
i dont personally wear them in my everyday life, but i enjoy dressing my girl doll in cute dresses
it is not that i dislike boy dolls, there are many handsome ones!
but somehow i just need these cute ruffles and stuff in my life there xD

    7. I prefer female dolls because I have very girly taste in clothes, hairstyles and makeup. I love frilly dresses, hair ribbons and pink lipstick, for evample. I do like male dolls but, bjds are costly so I'm not sure it would be worth it to me to buy one. I might consider buying an immature androgynous-looking body at some point. That way, I could make the doll look like a little boy occaisonally but, I'd have it look like a little girl most of the time.

    8. I thought I liked female sculpts the most, especially because since college I always preferred to deal with the feminine figure for drawing/painting, but now I really would like to give my girl a male partner :<. And I do get myself choosing already, lol, they're so beautiful!

    9. I prefer boys, for some reason their personalities and styles are easier to figure out than with girls :sweat

    10. I tend to be drawn to girl dolls. While I believe any gender can wear whatever they like, I like to base my dolls style after my dream style. Since I personally am a female and am drawn to the frilly, pink type of clothing, I have the most fun with this :)

    11. Back when I started the hobby I was sure I only liked girl dolls...fast forward to now and over half my wish list is boys. I also like androgynous dolls or characters that don't fall within the traditional gender binary.

    12. I prefer boys a little more! But right now, of the six dolls I own/have on the way, I actually have more girl dolls..! I only have one girl on my wishlist. I just have an easier time making boy characters, I think.

    13. I tend to prefer girls, and most boys sculpt I like tend to be feminine. Heck, the only boy I own, with a boy body and all, I decided was actually a trans girl whose body I need to modify.
I guess I wouldn't mind having a boy, but I have trouble finding nice sculpts in MSD size. They usually look very childish, whereas it's easier to find something a bit more mature for girls.

    14. I always thought I'd have a strong preference for girls, but when it comes to traditional BJD I just adore most male sculpts way too much. Girls are pretty too but I always lean towards the males. When it comes to smaller dolls I tend to get females though.

    15. I seem to prefer boys. Out of all the dolls that I've bought, or just heads as I have only one full doll at the moment, I've gone with the male sculpts. Ringdoll Sol (my only 'full doll'), Akagidoll Ban, Impldoll Martin, DF-A 1/4 Practice head, Dollshe Saint. Sure, some of those can be gender-bent and turned into girls. Even the latest head I've purchased and am waiting on, a DF-H Xiao Xin, could be either. But, for me, it's going to be my first girl. Hopefully my only girl actually.

It's not that I don't like the girls, but a lot of them (I guess the same could be said for a lot of the boys too) are near identical. And their clothing options are minimal and very... risque. Short skirts, little tops. That would suit one of my female characters just fine, but not the one I'm planning on shelling in the Xiao Xin head. The resin boys have a little more choice when it comes to fashion.

    16. I tend toward male dolls. Now I think this is because I gravitate toward male characters when i create characters.

There's no logical reason WHY, i'm just more comfortable playing men. I don't know if that's because growing up I was usually happier being "one of the boys" rather than "a girl" or if it's some ingrained sexism driven by my experiences with females being horrible to me (groups of girls can be SO nasty), or if it's just a weird thing... I mean I can really think of no legitimate excuse why a female character would be any different to a male one in most cases and most settings, yet, I still even in a modern setting with no societal gender bias, prefer to play a guy.
Male is my comfort zone, always has been, even at a young age i'd pick to be the prince while my friends all wanted to be the princess.

So when i started doll collecting the thing that brought me into dolls as a whole "thing" was actually Bratz Boyz. A whole line of JUST boy dolls!? YES!
I learned how very uncommon they are in fashion dolls, and really have enjoyed collecting male dolls.
So when I moved up to BJDs, it was only natural i'd gravitate toward male sculpts first as I predominantly collect male dolls in general and of 60+ characters, only about 3 are female (seriously wth?)

I like having a couple of girl doll sure, but i'm not big into "pretty" when it comes to dressing them so my girls are unlikely to wear big gowns or anything particularly feminine.
And because I try to design characters for my dolls, on average, they'll default to male.

I own 2 female dolls right now, 1 genderless one who i'm modding and then 7 males. My plans include 2 more girls, and then a whoooole lot of boys.
I don't think i'll ever have an equal ratio haha, but i'm okay with that.
Sure finding clothing and wigs is harder in many cases for male dolls, but they're comparatively uncommon and I dunno.. makes them feel a bit more special to me.

    17. I prefer girls, I just feel more creativley attached to them. I love sewing new pretty outfits and making wigs and would be much less inspired to make male things. That being said I love looking at the male dolls of others and would like to one day own one but that would be in the distant future.

    18. Definitely boys, which outnumber my girls usually 4 to 1 in my collection. I generally find male sculpts to be more interesting and less generalized in terms of features and expression. I do love female dolls (especially dressing and seeing for them), but I am so picky and have a much harder time finding ones that I "need to buy".

    19. I only have males. Although sometimes I think it would be good to have a female or two, well, I just like males more. I have no real reason why, other than just liking the look of them.

    20. I think it also depends on what is typical for sculptors to design in each gender. For example, males are more prone to being angular and strong jawed while females typically are softer. I initially preferred softer looks, so I preferred females. Now I love a "stronger" look and find myself looking at males more and more. (though I haven't bought my first bjd yet since I've been waiting to find the right one).
