1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. Appoligies if I'm wrong but are you Mr Creepers from the Mesco forums? LDDs were one of the first dolls that got me into BJDs :)

I think it's wonderful when guys like these dolls and I have a couple of BJD friends who are male. It gives another perspective to the hobby too.

    2. Im a guy who likes BJDs I dont own any yet but thats because im saving.. I got into them years ago just never have made enough money to get one.. I used to play with my dads old school GI Joes when i was little and when a friend of mine a few years ago showed me a pic of Ducan on DoD i was floored...
Now my family is slightly concerned with me... Though my one brother is supportive in everything i do..
Mom thinks they are creepy and Dad hasnt seen them yet... might convert him on them tonight...

    3. Presenting your dolls as "really big action figures" is probably the best spin you could give to outsiders. Buy some 1/3 scale weapons to drive the point home! Most outfits could probably benefit from the addition of a sword or gun.

That's how I got into dolls... as super big poseable figures. If you collected more typical 1/6 and smaller figures like I did, you can think of it as "graduating" to a larger size. My friends/family didn't think much of them (for or against) since I framed it that way.

    4. I'm a trans-sexual, Female to Male, and currently I own two boys.
Though its not so much as being male, but about bein' a Tranny, I get comments like "if u wanna be a boy then y r u so girly u freek" allot >>
Some people.... But other than that, reception of me and my hobby is pretty good~

    5. Tsh, duh! I think that pretty much every outfit needs a sword or a dagger, be it any outfit, doll or human! (... Crap, is my Rennfaire nerdiness showing?)

    6. I agree wholeheartedly with this thread, despite my being a girl. :P

My boyfriend is more tolerant of my dolls than my cats. XD While he wouldn't collect them, he appreciates them for their aesthetic value and pays attention when I talk about them. There have been several occasions when he'll sit beside me and make comments, and even offer suggestions about different clothes and the like! He's also great about doll-sitting when I'm in the process of doing photoshoots (read: I make him hold them. XD) Besides, it balances out all the WoW and Magic the Gathering talk I let him babble at me about. ;)

Personally, I think there should be more guys in the hobby. A friend of mine once said that he could see taking an Iplehouse Akando and turning him into Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z (he's a bit of a nerd for it), which I was totally trying to talk him into. The greatest thing about BJDs is that they don't limit you in what you can do with them, so it's not all about pretty girls in frilly dresses (which is okay, too!). :)

    7. My father was supportive of my hobby. If he had had the money, I'm sure I would have been able to convince him to get a girl. He was always a fan of angel figurines and pretty anime girl figurines, which were all much more affordable.

Also, I've gotten one of my male friends interested in them, and almost convinced to get one. Only if he did, he'd make it cosplay the Green Ranger. I told him he should do it because it'd be awesome.

    8. Interesting thread. :)

There's another, related discussion here on DoA. It's not super-identical, but I think the info there might of interest to anyone reading this thread.

    9. Amen to that. >__> I happen to be FTM as well. And my god, I get so many comments that are like, "Hur hur you collect dolls you can't be a boy ur just confoozed."

Anyway, while physically I'm not male, I consider myself just as male as any other guy. As far as dolls go, I only have one boy so far, but I have plans to get another boy, and eventually a female. I definitely prefer guy dolls to girl dolls. I just feel like I connect to them better.

      And just like SpazzMuffin said, most of the negative comments towards me being a guy and collecting dolls has more to do with my gender than me being a guy collecting dolls. o_O;

    10. I would probably pass out from delight if I knew a boy who collected BJDs. Notice I said BJDs, not really any others. But only because other dolls freak me out. D-: I would probably go into a delight-induced coma if said boy collected boy dolls. I H-E-A-R-T boy dolls - girls aren't my favorite. I would like to see a boy who collects girls though. (-:

I would date him. Without a doubt. <3

    11. weeeeeel....
lol I'm just messin with ya :P

    12. My husband does all the fixing type work on my dolls, he is also better at dressing them (poor guy oftimes gets a doll thrown at him before I'm going to a meetup with me going "Waaaaaah I'm late! Dress her! or him"). He also bought, faceuped, and dressed a doll he gave me as a gift. I was so touched, I wouldn't change her for the world. He is not particularly interested in dolls, he likes Legos more lolz, but I wouldn't think he was a homosexual if he did. Not that there is anything wrong with that, it probably would not be good for our marriage ;). He has many interests that would have made him seem in my old neighborhood "half a fag" (anyone else know that one? It's the Brooklynese endearment for a guy who is into "girlish" stuff. ), like cooking, sewing, knitting.
I have a few M to F pals who love my dolls. So far I have not enabled any, but working on it. I bring them to work so we can all play. We have a lot of downtime at my jobs. At my last job my one friend (who used to be a bartender at Luckychang's) and I did small watercolors of a few of my dolls, everyday we did a different one.
I love more diversity in this hobby. I have met straight and gay guys who collect.
If you want to research a very cool male dollmaker, look up Doi Shinn, the maker of Shinydolls.

    13. wow i would love it if more guys collected bjds, in fact i would love a bf that collected. it would give us endless stuff to talk about. but i think i have only met 2 guys in the last 3-4 years who collect and i never got to know them that well. i think it would really help a guy stand out from the crowd because he has this hobby he likes and he isn't worried about what other ppl think.

i actually feel bad for a lot of guys, i feel like there are a lot of sexist thoughts that tend to run through most ppl's heads when they think of dolls, assuming that they are only for girls or something like that. but i have never understood that.

    14. EGAD. ;-; /messedwith

      edit/ I do believe I have found a boy who collects girls! /wigglwiggle :-D

    15. Well to start I don't actually own any BJDs as of right now. However a few years ago I told my mom that I really wanted one and she wasn't too happy about it. It was mostly the price, but I do have quite a few stuffed animals and I have a few non BJD dolls. But I am also gay and I think that might be a reason my friends wouldn't really care. I mean, my friends know I love fashion and beautiful things so it wouldn't be so surprising if I owned one. When I get one my closest friends will probably think my doll is creepy or really amazing.

As someone else mentioned before when I play games I usually play females, not always, but usually. As silly as it might sound, I honestly like the outfits better. I love that I can completely customize a doll and change the hair and outfit and makeup. I eventually want to get into doing my own faceups. I thnk that would be fantastic. But for now I'll just focus on saving up for my first doll. I know I want a female first, but I do want to own a male too eventually. I just think its awesome that there a lot of straight guys who are into BJDs. More power to you!

    16. I totally get what you're saying. Whenever I play video games I hate to have to be a boy, because (especially in Harvest Moon) I love the outfits soooo much more when I'm the girl. I do have to agree that dressing up girls is fun, and that I really may have to own a girl someday because of it. I just have to find a girl sculpt I like first. (-:

I'd love to meet a straight guy into BJDs. THEN my life really would be complete, y'know? Also, a straight male cosplayer. The only one I know of is Sexy Sasuke. .-. And I'm not totally sure he's straight. My life would be competed then. :-D

No, it would be complete when I met a gay boy. .-.
We don't have any of those here. ;-; /sad

    17. Aww I know plenty of straight men who collect bjds and cosplay. I guess our local doll group must be pretty unique because we have several male collectors. My oldest son will be joining the group soon. He is getting his first doll for his birthday (he doesn't know yet). My youngest would love one as well but he isn't old enough. I'm out numbered in my house, three boys and just lil ol' me. LOL I wouldn't have it any other way though. My husband is frequently referred to as "almost gay" both by friends who are joking and in not so nice ways by people who don't get him. Though honestly the doll collecting isn't what brings it up most often. Perhaps it is the fact that he wanted to see New Moon because "Jacob is hot with his shirt off" that does it? Or the fact that he buys soooooo much yaoi (which he claims is my fault) as well as watching it online (again claiming it is my fault)? He is just very comfortable with himself and doesn't mind. He went to the most recent convention with his hair bleached and dyed cotton candy pink. I try not to look at things in the sense of "this gender does this, that gender does that" and I try to keep from instilling those beliefs in my children. They can do what they want, just like hubby does and just like I do. I don't behave in a socially prescribed "feminine" way, it isn't who I am. Hubby has more "feminine traits" and interests, or at least he is more comfortable embracing them anyway. I think it is wonderful.

    18. the sure fire use my brother uses on my dad when he calls his toys dolls, "IT'S NOT A DOLL! IT'S AN ACTION FIGURE!"

and to say i'm a girl, but i still like it.

    19. That is so wonderful! I'm glad that there are straight men in your group who collect BJDs. I think that people should just do what makes them happy. :) Also you and family sounds wonderful. I love that you try to instill in your children they should be who they are and not worry about what society thinks. Kudos to you!
