1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. My husband doesn't collect dolls the same way I do, but every now and then when I'm browsing through the marketplace, he'll point out a doll and say "That's cute!" He even has a doll of his own (a Honey Delf Taffy) whom he adores, and loves dressing up and putting her in interesting poses. Our tastes are very different for the most point (though he's declared every 27cm/Yo-sized doll in the house belongs to him) and I'm more into creating characters and stories for my dolls, but I think since getting a doll of his own he can kind of understand where I'm coming from, even if I want a doll hoard and he's fine with just his one doll.

He prefers small, cute, female dolls (and generally in aesthetics too--he'll almost always play small, cute female characters in video games, for example). I think if people knew he had a doll, it would be unsurprising. He already dresses very different from the norm (he wears a top hat just about everywhere--and always gets compliments on it) and is an artist/animator, so I think people expect him to be a bit "different".

    2. Im a boy, and have one boy doll :) Ive had him for a good....4 years I think? Hes a dollzone Ray (used to be DZ Xi but i sold off that head for his current one). I also used to have a BBB Sprite, but I didnt really connect with her :(
I have loved BJDs since I first learned about them in the Sewing/Textiles forum on Gaia. My mom thought they were kinda weird, but now she likes them :) Shes never discouraged me. Most of my friends have been pretty supportive too, thought most of them dont have an interest in BJD themselves.
I have been to a local meetup as well as one at Sakura-Con and have never experianced negativity, but I live in western Washington and you can pretty much do whatever you want here without fearing much judgement xD I dont really take my boy out in public though, just because I dont like the thought of encountering negative attention.

I love sewing for my boy, I think thats one of the biggest factors in me buying him. I just love sewing in general, and its even more fun for BJD because they can wear whatever you stick them in (and actually look good in it lol).

As for the whole gay/straight thing, im pansexual. I think that love is about who you are, not whats between your legs and I like both guys and girls. Im gayer than a straight guy and straighter than a gay guy, on the whole id label myself as one of those "artsy" kids. Arent we all haha.

    3. I was talking about this with a friend who's aware of the dolly scene to an extent. My boy is the only one she's seen but her reaction when I told her "Boys collect them too" was a look of disgust and replied "Thats a bit....perverse is it not?"

I tried to get her to clarify but she kept just saying that it was. I dont understand how she came to that conclusion at all!

    4. My mom basically said the same thing. She said well I know you aren't interested in girls so its different for you, but I feel like maybe men who collect dolls are interested in youth. I tried convincing her otherwise, but people will have their own opinions.

    5. Lets start a club.

    6. Haha, deal :) I would love to live with another doll junkie, and have big shadow box rooms for them set up all over the house. Then have like one room split in half, on side a photo studio for photostories and shoots, and the other for sewing. It would be paradise.

    7. I've met exactly one straight man who is into dolls. I also met his girlfriend.. I don't know how many dolls he has, because I've only seen him with his one MSD cosplayed as Sailor Mercury (he himself was as Mars)
I'd love to see more guys in the hobby.. I'm surprised by the number of guys replying to this thread..
      (I'm a girl, btw)

    8. That sounds like my idea of paradise too! If I had the resources, I would have rooms for all three of my dolls. Too bad they're three different sizes!

But, to get back on topic, I've got a guy friend that's expressed interest in my dolls before, so I'll be introducing him to Alice on Monday. Maybe I'll convert a new collector!

    9. okay for me i yet own my doll yes it is going to be a girl but its that i like her sculpt she was the first bjd i fell for. i could get a guy but there is no guys id like to own. ps i am a guy

    10. I'm female and even though I don't own any yet my my plan is to get a certain guy. Anytime I find myself looking at them I always go for guys but I always assumed it was me being weird as I only hang out with men and am very masculine myself. They're just big action figures to me. :)

The other day I had to go clothes shopping and I was whining about it in the store when someone said "you don't like shopping?!" so I replied "Yep, and I hate chocolate too..." after a few seconds they replied "Are you sure you're a girl?" to which I always say "Still was last time I checked!" they got weirded out and walked away. XD Gender stereotypes are funny!

    11. That sounds like a dream. Oh oh, and an area for building furniture.... maybe outside. (I worked in a woodshop studio for 2 years) And a nice garden for outdoorsy shoots.

    12. I'm not that suprised, in some countries Doll collecting is more of a mans thing. I've seen photos from some conventions where the attendees were mostly men. (also look at some doll sculpts, they're very....... fulfilling of the stereotypical idea of what men should consider beautiful.) I dunno if that says anything, but look at Danny Choo, he's a very out there male collector.
And here http://www.dannychoo.com/post/en/25604/Dolls+Party+23+Part+2.html#landscape If you go to the second photo of their twitter doll club, most of them are men.

    13. Danny Choo got me hooked! He's hot BTW.

    14. I'm a female and I love both equally. I can't imagine having only boys or girls.

    15. I am a female myself and I prefer the female dolls ^^ Even though thats the way i feel in real life too, i dont think that affects the fact of my liking female dolls more xD Males are good too I just like the look and clothes for the female dolls ^^

    16. i have two girl dolls and no boys right now even though there are some really great boy dolls that i know for a fact that i want. i think the reason i have the girls is because my main oc's are female. but whats interesting is that i do have a lot of male oc's. so looking at it from that perspective i am not really sure why i have more girls then boys.

i guess with my first doll she was meant to be my main oc, and the second girl happened on a bit of a wim. i never thought i would be the type of doll owner that bought a doll because of love at first sight but that would appear to be what happened with me.

but now i am trying to decide between saving for another female doll or a male doll.

i feel like its so interesting that you asked this question because to be honest i never even thought it about why i have only girls and tend to want female dolls over boy dolls. which is probably why i am all babbling and stuffs. :D

    17. Y'see thats where people with those sorts of opinions loose me. For me personally their opinions dont make any sense at all!
I dunno if it's because I grew up playing with boys toys which is more 'socially acceptable' but I see nothing wrong with men being interested in this hobby at all!

    18. Hey there! Just a brief background on myself, I am currently in my early twenties and have recently started picking up on the hobby of BJD. As a fellow male, the thought of men collecting BJD (male or female doll) has not really bothered me. From a personal perspective, I view the dolls as works of art and I really think they are truly magnificent in their sculpting and the variety option of customization. Partly is because I have always been fascinated by sculptures from ancient Greek to Rome periods and I think BJDs are just the modern day sculptures on terms of the ideal human form. I love to display my dolls throughout the house... they are just lovely and my guests don't seem to mind. :)

    19. I am female, and I prefer the male dolls. I just do not like any famale doll yet. But I hope some day I will.

    20. Funny story...I grew up with tons of stuffed animals. I had a this little hammock full over my bed! Also my favorite toy when I was little was this Little Mermaid doll I had. So this hobby should not come as a surprise to my parents or me. :p

I also played with Ninja Turtles, trucks, and GI Joe figures. I wanted a hand in all the toys! :p
