    1. I'm a girl, and I prefer male dolls. I only have one BJD at the moment, and he's a boy. I only have plans for one girl BJD. xD And that's mainly because I want to buy her cute clothes. ^o^

    2. I'm a girl and l like to have both kinds of dollfies. But l do find it much harder to buy boy dollfie clothes.

    3. I'm actually genderqueer/neutral, with a preference towards male dolls... though i like some girl dolls too >_>;

    4. I`m a female and two my dolls are males. I like girls too, but would not want to have them by my side. Maybe it`s because I have too many real females around. And my baby is girl. She is my true little friend. And all the girly staff I can put on the real child.

    5. Admittedly I've only just gotten my first doll a week ago, and its a girl, but I think I'm not going to only have one or the other. If I get another doll, then I think I'll get a boy, so I can make different stuff for him. And so Caitlin gets herself a 'friend'. I only got a girl to start off with coz I'd already met her, then bought her off an ex. I think if Caitlin had been a boy, I'd still have bought him. I buy for the look of them, not necessarily their gender.

    6. Specifically, when you tell someone that your into collecting dolls, and you're a guy, do they tend to assume that you must then also be a homosexual? Its mostly for this reason that I don't talk to the people at my college anime club about my BJD, I just don't feel like getting that "oh, so you must be gay" look from someone when I talk about a hobby.

      As a side note for you ladies, do you tend to assume that a guy in this fandom must be gay because he's a part of the fandom?

      And as a final note if this post offends anyone in anyway I apologize, I mean no offense, I'm just curious.

    7. I totally don't associate a male dollowner with gay, I'm not sure why not but I never did. I know a few guys with dolls and neither of them are gay I think, I never noticed that other girls thought about them in that way also. I'm not sure how it is with non dollowners off course.

    8. I don't consider a guy gay if he's into dolls. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, but I am open minded. And after all, my brother is straight and his favorite color is pink, so I definitely wouldn't think a doll collecting guy gay. :)

    9. To be honest, when I first joined here and there were some guys I chatted to on occasion....that thought did cross my mind. Usually followed by the thought 'Its really none of my buisness and its not relative to the conversation I'm having with him.".

      I think its a very stange double standard. Guy collects dolls (usually girl dolls) = must be gay. Yet girl collecting girl dolls = perfectly normal. You'd think girls collecting girl dolls would be see as strange as girls like boys, therefore, boy dolls should be more appealing. And same with boys, makes more sense if they collect girl dolls since boys like girls (of course if your homosexual, its the other way round). Anyway, my point is our perception on who should collect what seems kinda skewed to start with. Personally, I'm a firm believer in the whole "surround yourself with what makes you happy." If thats boy dolls or girl dolls, it totally up to you.

      Also, I had a boyfriend who was WILD about oogling dolls breasts. He was a total anime nut and any chance to see a half naked doll with breasts was ok by him! Right now my friend from work has a total crush on my DOD E-an doll, Anna.....he's always trying to call her his beautiful Anna.....and he's 51 and married.

    10. The only time I would associate a dude getting a doll to be gay is if they were getting a male doll and like, dressing him up as a girl for some reason. But it's not like that would bother me, I have lotsa' gay friends and stuff.
      Nah, I wouldn't care what anyone thinks about it. I'm only kind of iffy about one friend knowing about the dolls, and he's a guy- and he's a kind of normal guy (into anime and video games, so he's a little more accepting than a normal guy is), but he's a little bit of a hardass at times about things.
      So the main thing, if anything, I would hide from him, would be the price tag, most absolutely. D:
      Even girls have to hide things too sometimes, you know. I'm afraid of my dad knowing even remotely the price.
      I'm never the type to assume anything, though. Normally I just don't think about it, or just don't care, or just don't mind.
      :chocoheart
      Edit: Well, I wouldn't say I'd NEVER assume anything, of course. I try to avoid using absolutes. :<

    11. I, personally, am gay and have been into ABJDs for about 4+ years now, and my Dad definitely thinks that collecting dolls is a 100% homosexual thing. :lol:

      However, my sexuality has nothing to do with my hobbies, and 'thus far I have encountered way more heterosexual male BJD (and Pullip) owners than homosexual.

      It's very common for people to assume that a male with any feminine-seeming hobbies or interests is gay, but I think that's really narrow-minded for the most part and pushing gender stereotypes too hard onto people, and going too much with the assumption that feminine or masculine traits form one's sexuality when they don't.

      As for strange looks? I honestly don't know if having dolls gets me strange looks because I'm a guy, or purely because of the dolls themselves.

    12. I agree with Darky

      I find it really irritating when people assume that you're a homosexual just because you like doing something that is usually done by the other gender (e.g. Oh, there's a girl who likes soccer and kickboxing, she must be lesbian! Oh, there's a guy who loves gardening, he must be gay!)

      It's really insensitive and outright stupid.

      Personally, I kinda respect men who would admit that they're into bjd, it's extremely courageous! :)

    13. Even though I'm a gay guy, I don't automatically assume a guy is gay if he is into bjds, most of the guys I find in the hobby have gotten into it through their wives or girlfriends. What I find more annoying is when people assume I'm a girl, but then I can't blame them as this hobby (I find) is a female-dominated one.

    14. It wouldn't occur to me to think a male bjd collector was gay. I've seen plenty of indications that straight guys collect them - it's not unusual to see female DoA members saying their boyfriends/husbands etc have a doll or dolls too.

    15. I'm not a guy (sorry...), and I don't have any BJD's yet (again, sorry.), but my 10- brother is already in love with BJD's, just from the pictures. I looked up this thread to prove to him that he wasn't the only guy into them. He's still a kid, so the jury's still out on his sexual preference, but I think he's just a normal creative guy. He has long hair, and likes both "girly" and "boyly" (as he says ^-^) things, like tinkerbell and bakugan.

      And as far as dads go, I think ours would be fine with it; he'd see it as yet another art project. And he already has one homosexual kid. XD he's pretty cool about that stuff.

    16. I've looked, but I can't seem to find anything on this...

      Are there any other boys with BJDs out there?
      I feel like I'm the only one ; ~ ;

      While I'm on it;
      Do you think it's weird for a boy to be interested in/own BJDs?

      Personally, I don't, but then it may be because I've always been into very artistic things. BJDs, for me, cover a wide range of arts, from customizing with paints and pastels, modding with clay, creating outfits by sewing, and bringing them to life through photo-stories. It wasn't just about the dolls; not just because they're cute or because I like to collect things. It was because I wanted to create something to be my own, unlike anyone else's, and to bring that dream to life through something tangible.

    17. I'm sure there are, when I went to a convention where they had a BJD table I think there were only guys behind it :P

      I don't think it's weird at all. As you say, BJDs are more of an artistic thing than your usual pink Barbie doll. But even then I don't see a problem with guys collecting barbie dolls either, I know some that collect My Little Ponies. I think people can collect whatever they want, who cares about gender :D

    18. I totally. Collect. My Little Ponies.
      Well, I used to, before Hasbro went and made them hideous...
      I also used to customize them, but that's another story! xD

      I'm glad to see someone else understands it, though!
