    1. Are there any other boys with BJDs out there?

Without getting too TMI on you, I am a boy in every possible way, minus my physical appearance. :( But that aside, I collect BJDs and plan to collect them for many more years to come! So you certainly aren't the only boy who collects BJDs. ^^

      While I'm on it;
Do you think it's weird for a boy to be interested in/own BJDs?

Not at all! :P And who cares if it is weird? I see these dolls the same way you see them, a complete creative outlet. My doll acts as my creative muse and my cuddle buddy when I'm sad. There's nothing wrong with being a guy who collects dolls. I mean, no one cares about girls who collect action figures, which essentially are the same thing in my opinion as dolls, so why would anyone care if a boy collects dolls? Gender roles are so overrated. :B

    2. As a girl who played with action figures as a kid (ninja turtles, thundercats, he-man, etc) I find that ABJD's are almost a natural progression of that, or maybe just a blending of the male (articulation) and female (fashion) sides of the action figure/doll playing we did as children. When people ask me what I get out of collecting, WHY I do it, it's really about customization and artistic expression to me, which is definitely a genderless hobby.

My boyfriend has always been quite supportive about my doll hobby, and he helps me out ALOT with it- helping me restring/etc, helping with photography, designing sets, posing (he's better at it than I am!), and picking out clothes/accessories, character traits, and names. He keeps an eye out for doll-sized props. took it upon himself to build me a stand for my doll wigs, and has gladly bought me supplies so I could try my hand at doing face-ups.

I would definitely say he's quite active in the hobby with me, even if he doesn't own any himself, but he's even mused over the idea of getting a doll eventually, and I'm considering getting him a Unidoll Cafu (the little otter) for Xmas as a gateway drug *fanged grin*

I'm the only person I know, male or female, that collects, so I tend to get some odd looks, but whatevs, it's FUN, and that's the most important thing, no matter what gender you are.

    3. I think that a boy with a doll is not stranger than a girl driving a car ..
Many boys collect figurines of characters from the movies, it's too doll .. just a little bit different ..

    4. Hello: I am a boy. I used to be a boy but now, I am a 50 year old man. I have collected dolls all my life. I have hundreds of dolls of all makes and models. I only recently discovered BJD's. At first, I was put off by the prices. Now I am hooked and there is no stopping me.
Do you think it's weird for a boy to be interested in/own BJDs?
I understand how you may feel. I WAS this boy. Let me give you some words of advice. BE YOURSELF!
I also have been artistic my entire life. I enjoy the painting, the designing and sewing of new outfits etc.
I hope you enjoy your hobby like the rest of us males. Keep on creating and love what you do.

    5. that is true, I enjoy the hobby and people
much, much more then any other hobby i've been involved in

    6. I'm a boy and dont see the problem with boys owning BJD's. It's an art and not a toy really.

    7. Are there any other boys with BJDs out there?
There probably are. I'm not male so can't help you there.

      While I'm on it;
Do you think it's weird for a boy to be interested in/own BJDs?
A fun story, other guys not involved in the hobby will definitely ridicule you and kill you socially. Females will probably find it very intriguing or queer.
Fun story I heard, because sociology and psychology are fun when it comes to experiments:

It happened in a Swedish program about gender roles, and at one point they wanted to see how children in a kindergarten acted. They placed a big box with knights costumes and princess dresses in the kindergarten, and then let three boys and three girls pick their clothes. The boys immediately grabbed the knight costumes and a sword each, and the girls of course picked the dresses, but seemed largely uninterested in the swords.

Then a male teacher put on a princess dress too. All the children gave him weird looks, and then one of the boys yelled, “Boys can’t wear dresses!” to which the man said, “Boys can wear dresses if they want to” “No!” the little boys yelled, and then started harassing the man and hitting him with their plastic swords.
But then the little girls came to his rescue. They quickly grabbed the remaining swords in the box and got between the man and the boys, yelling, “Be nice to him! He can be a princess if he wants to!”

Apparently the mere fact that he was dressed like a princess made the little girls see him as one of them.
      ^^

    8. I'm glad mclamm7 posted the link to the other thread, it was a good one. I am not a guy, but both my hubby and my oldest son are also BJD collectors. Personally I try not to label toys or hobbies as "girl" or "boy" but I do understand that society does see them as such. I've never been a traditionally "girly girl" though so those labels don't fit me very well. I did not like dolls as a child but BJD's are a bit different for me. When it comes to what my own children are interested in, I encourage them in whatever direction they want to go. I have two boys with unique personalities and interests. My oldest loves video games, books, science, musicals, cosplaying and BJD's. My youngest loves the color pink, My Little Ponies, dragons, ninjas, pirates and Hello Kitty. He wants his own doll but at 5 and being the type of child who could probably destroy a solid steel ball bearing I am a bit leery. But I have never told them "only girls can ___ go play with a truck."

Do you think it's weird for a boy to be interested in/own BJDs?
Not in the least. Our local group has several male collectors, but then I have been told that is not all that common. My hubby collects and I don't think he is weird. Well actually he is pretty weird but liking BJD's has nothing to do with it. As I've said I do my best not to add a gender connotation to hobbies, interests, colors or what have you. Every once in a while I will see a man (or woman) doing something and think "why would he want to do that, he's a man?" And I catch myself and remind myself that it is perfectly acceptable for a man to want to do whatever, that I am allowing myself to fall victim to a gender stereotype. My husband and I are doing our best to raise our children without these types of gender stereotypes. In the hopes that these types of questions won't even enter their minds. We never tell our children there is something they can't do or something they have to do simply because of the gender they were born.

    9. Are there any other boys with BJDs out there?
Yes; there are even a few that actually make them! ( Ringdoll, Narin doll etc)

Do you think it's weird for a boy to be interested in/own BJDs?

No ! Not at all ; This hobby can be for anyone :) !

    10. I started as a girl collecting BJDs and now I am a boy that collects BJDs. All in the same :)

    11. Hello, AiDakeGa!
This has been discussed before in this thread!

    12. Are there any other boys with BJDs out there?
Well 'Boy' is not the word i'd use ..... I'm a GUY and I collect ABJD. Its a good thing most of the people in this forum are nice. Some of the BJD colectors I meet gives me a wierd look when I tell them I also collect BJD. And normal people would think were some kind of pervert. I mean its really hardfor a guy collecting BJD. I remembered when my first Azone doll arrived, my was the one who recived it. The first thing he done was phone my mom saying 'I think your son is gay'.

Do you think it's weird for a boy to be interested in/own BJDs?
YES!! But I love beeing weird and diffrent and I dont care what anyone thinks about me. I remember Danny Choo saying ''This are not my doll's, this are my daughter's''

    13. Are there any other boys with BJDs out there?
It never would have occurred to me, but then again, there are grown men collecting Barbie dolls, the epitome of girl toys, so I'm not surprised there are guy collectors too.

Do you think it's weird for a boy to be interested in/own BJDs?
Not at all! I'm generally quite open minded about these sort of things, it's none of my business to judge what other people do. My mom thinks dolls is strictly a girl thing, so she finds it pretty odd.

    14. When I met my gf I saw them and I was really impressed and amazed with them. I'm the kind of person who will get into something and not care what anyone else thinks. Not to shock people just because I like it. When I was in high school I actually got bullied for reading Whitley Strieber novels. I thought that was really stupid because he's a very popular best selling author. He wrote the Hunger which was adapted into a movie starring David Bowie. I mean, he's not an obscure reference or something. I didn't really have any idea what else he had written though and don't believe I had the internet yet.

When I was around the age of getting into college I had met kind of in passing or had brief flirtations with artsy kind of girls.. but for whatever reason didn't run into this kind of person often. So the female doll I bought is almost like a time capsule for me. No matter how many years go by and no matter how old I get the doll will be the same. I am depressed about most girls I see around me being boring looking. I'm really lucky that my gf has a sense for aesthetic and more refined tastes. For me it's a matter of being young at heart. I am interested in getting a large-r boy doll and it would really be an attempt to dress him up in all the stuff I kind of dream of walking around in but would feel stupid about or cant afford. I was interested in getting a doll that emotionally I would feel matched the perception I had of myself. I thought the LUTS doll Cane could be 'the' male doll I will get. I've also been fascinated with the dolls that Don Kinney makes (Bishonen House) however I find those to be unwieldy. I go along with the people who say they will buy ONE doll, and that doll will be special. I'm not someone that will fill my house with people. If I get another female doll (currently have a CP Soony) it will probably be a different size like a LUTS Senior Delf Kara.

I would like to believe that if ever I have a daughter she will grow up with beautiful 'people' in her house to sort of idolize and almost look to for inspiration. I would hope a doll like this could give a child a sense of personal pride in themselves and how they carry themselves. A sense of poise.

    15. Hello there! ^^ I'm male and I also have gotten into the hobby... I'm getting my second doll hopefully by November as sort of a birthday present to myself. My preference is male dolls as well; my girlfriend likes the one I have now.. >.> I can't get into detail because my doll is considered ''off topic''. Wish they'd make a section on here for off topic dolls.... regardless!

:D I love asian dolls- I hate cheap and unrealistic dolls like barbies; dolls that are to scale are just wonderful though!:)

    16. Also to chime in, my male friends like my dolls too. One of them used to have a Unoa boy with optional parts, we got afew juvenile photoshoots out of that one... ;)
Sometimes Ill bring my doll along to my friends house and we will all sit around with my boy doll in a chair, they usually pick him up and play around with him, pose him, one of my friends likes stroking my dolls wigs! Once I brought my female doll round and my male friend made her a bustle skirt. All these guys are straight and in their thirties! But then again one of them has always had modified action men for animating.
Id love to have male friends who have dolls though, itd be great collaborating!

    17. Hi. I'm a girl but I'll chime in as well. I didn't really think were any guys in this hobby at all at first but I guess there's quite a few. I think thats very cool. I also admit that when I first told my guy friends about the hobby I was embarrassed but hey seemed to think it was cool. One understood because he's they type of guy who playes with action figures like their barbies and my "goth" guy friend thought they sounded really cool yet creepy after I explained more about them and he wanted to look into getting one. I think more guys should get into the hobby.

    18. I'm a girl. My guy friend was the first doll owner I know. It seems very natural to me that he has dolls as he is really artsy and strange. He originally had a MSD girl and an SD boy and I think he likes the girl better, but I thing that might be due to character development. Since then he has aquired two or three other boys, so I'm not sure what his opinion is. I, however, have one of each and like them both pretty equally. I think if they were real people I would get along better with the boy though. Although, I have to admit I feel like he is a bit uncomfortable when I have to take his underwear of off him for whatever reason.

    19. It was two guy friends of mine that introduced me to the hobby in the first place (one of them introduced me to DOD where I found my dream doll, the other told me, three years later, to stop waffling and just buy the doll). Both of them are straight, both of them have over 5 dolls in their collections and have been collecting for years (I'm the noob). They're the ones I call when I need help with my dolls (faceup advice, restringing, etc)

Since then I have met one more guy through the hobby and he's quite a cool dude as well.

I'm fine with guys owning dolls. Guys should be able to play with dolls, just like girls should be able to play with Transformers *guilty* without people thinking that's it's strange and going against gender norms, pfft.
