Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. 1. i am a girl, i think that these dolls arent any better of a hobby for boys than girls. i think that no matter what your gender is you can always collect bjds. and its great for photography practice !

    2. Added to my other quirks and strange behavior, my friends didn't seem to really even notice. Most of my friends are still dumbfounded by my fixation with and addiction to D&D. So yeah, not really much conflict.

    3. I don't think it's weird at all, those dolls ARE beautiful and I saw a guy captivated by them even when he didn't know what those were.

Most buy girl dolls, and it's awesome that you want a boy doll, appreciation ftw!

    4. This is a time when everything is weird to somebody. I was a little fearful of my friends opinions when I let them know I was interested in BJDs, but it turned out alright. One of them thinks it's because I am so feminine even though I am a straight male, but she enjoys them too. Others are interested, and okay with it, and 1 friend from work collects them with his girlfriend, and he introduced me to DoA. So all in all, people are usually pretty cool about it, it is just another hobby to many.

    5. well I can't say that I've started until I get my first doll, but I've already got a reaction out of my mother when my girlfriend (Coppermoon) told her how she and I were getting into this. It was reasonable surprise but hey, she knew I was getting into Fashion Design as well so it didn't bother her. XD

    6. I'm glad that this thread is here, guys collecting BJD are a minority, and it wouldn't be a smooth transition into the scene for a male out there who secretly habours a fascination with them but are a little embarrassed over the whole affair.

I have met several male BJD collectors over the years, and glad I did, lol however, most of them have girls, so they can fulfill their cosplay/mecha chick fantasies haha. But it's nice to talk with them, you learn new things from their perspective.
One of the most funny questions I asked a guy was:
Me: Do you get embarrassed when you change her panties and bra?
Him: mmm...I wouldn't do it infront of my family.but I don't go red or anything.

lol it had ALWAYS been on my mind, whether boys would be like ecck privacy for the doll change her whilst looking sideways or the sort. haha

    7. Well, I am guy 41 yrs. old at that. I have both male and female BJD's. The girls are more fun for me as far as being creative with. I have been collecting dolls since I was 23. My family doesn't care. Friends know and don't seem to mind. My partner likes them. I am always a little squeamish when someone I don't know well is over the house. I wonder what they may be thinking. I figure we are all judged one way or another every day. I fit about 70% of the stereotypes for being a gay guy and years have taught me to build a thicker skin. Do what you love love what you do. As long as you are happy and not hurting any one who cares really. To be honest most of the BJD male dolls are quite androgynous maybe that should set the tone of acceptance within our own walls so to speak.

    8. Some of my friends question my masculinity... But then I bring up the fact that I'm married and I have 2 children, and they shut up. Others accept the doll hobby, and still others also have them. My family thinks I'm nuts. My grandmother keeps trying to get me to sell my girls and just take my moms old Barbie dolls. Now granted I'm not selling my BJD's. But I have been tempted to accept the Barbies and liquidate them on eBay and buy more dolls. My wife's family doesn't know what to think. And my wife doesn't count, since she, herself, has some.

    9. I was more than a little shy about joining the doll community, and more than a little worried about what my friends might think of them when they began to discover my desire to collect. sure enough, though, I'm here now chatting with you all, although only a few of my closer friends are aware of my hobby. It's something that I choose to share with the people I think are open-minded enough about it to be accepting of the idea, and allow the rest to continue on in ignorant bliss. makes life a whole lot easier, I say. most of the guys I work with would disown me for posting on a forum about dolls, let alone owning one. (they'll have to get over it for nekocon weekend if they see me there.)
I was, however, highly suprised by the reaction from the first group of doll people's reaction whom I met offline. met them back at Katsucon this year, and they were very welcoming and friendly. i was expecting more along the lines of 'that weird guy' and 'that poor doll', but the reaction I got was much more pleasant. all in all, I think that they are to thank (or to blame) for me being able to continue on with this hobby.

    10. I'm the same way. It's no big deal if I'm alone, but I won't dress my dolls in front of anybody. Especially not bras and panties. I'm not afraid to leave doll bras and panties lying around for people to see or even displaying my dolls nude, though. As long as they're at rest, I don't care.

I haven't had much experience with real-life situations where people see my dolls. My mom didn't like that I, a guy, had them (she died a few months ago), and my dad doesn't like them either. He hasn't said anything about them in a long time, but the last time he did, he thought I had problems :(

My best friend (who now lives in Florida) doesn't go on and on about it. Sometimes I'll show him a picture, and then he'll just call me weird and leave it at that. Nobody else I know in real life knows about my dolls. I don't dare let anybody at work know about them.

Oh, and my preferences in dolls and whatnot. I'm straight, and I like female dolls. Mainly the more mature sculpts like Volks DD, Dollmore Model, and Iplehouse EID and SID. I don't like many of the younger-looking girl dolls, but I do like one of the Iplehouse 40cm-ish dolls enough to want to get her.

    11. Lol, that's an interesting conversation.

I'm another gay transguy, 25. I got interested in BJDs after coming across pictures of a Sabik online. It was like "Woah, this is PRETTY. And you can buy one?!" So for me it's just... appreciation of art and beauty. Like someone mentioned sculptures before. For me, BJD are just compact, affordable (relatively...) poseable sculptures.

My parents hate the dolls, but they hate a lot of stuff I do. *rolls eyes* I find that people are weirded out by my interest in dolls only if they find out I was born a female. Then it becomes a "see, you're really a girl! you're compensating!". But I'm sort of used to this attitude, cause people constantly look for reasons to affirm I'm really a girl. Well, whatever keeps them sane I suppose ;). Feels more like their issues than mine.

I'm also used to people assuming I'm a girl because I'm in another mostly-female hobby - slash. I don't really care.

I don't think it's a gay thing either, cause most of my other hobbies - well other than the slash obviously, lol, - is typical geek guy stuff (computer games and hardware, comics, tabletop roleplaying,) and hey, I even watch football, and like cars and beer! Shock, horror! I think that while we're alive, we should just do whatever feels right and good to us, regardless of labels, and others can mind their business. Well, unless we harm someone else by what we do, but this is certainly not a harmful hobby! As long as you manage your finances properly. ;)

    12. I'm a girl but my boyfriend has two dolls now. One girl and one boy. I was excited that we could share the hobby together. It's pretty fun.

    13. Whatever Said I don't mind.

Same same I don't mind if other play other stuff which I look weird or something.

      Continue to play.

    14. I'm a girl but I just wanted to share something I experienced while I was out taking some photographs of my doll yesterday. But firstly, I think it's absolutely cool when a guy collects BJDs. I know a lot of them collect Hot Toy figurines, Gundams, Figmas, model planes and a whole host of other stuff so why not BJDs? Collecting is just fun and it's a great hobby.

Anyhow! While I was out yesterday with a few friends photographing my doll, a bunch of people passed by and some of them stopped to look at my doll. Now, none of these were women! Not even one! All of those who stood and stared and seemed interested and fascinated by my doll were guys! Some of them were walking with a few girls but those girls didn't even bother looking at my doll or if they did, they didn't even look at all interested. The guys however stopped and stared and when they walked past us they looked over their shoulder at my doll. One of them even asked me about my BJD and how much it was and where I got it. Lol. It was really cool. Now I definitely think that if we didn't have to worry so much about what people think, we'd see more collectors out there.

    15. Although I think it would be cool to meet guys into ABJ, I've had really bad luck in that the very few I've met were total creeps >: I have a few dolls, and when I bring them to meets the guys there either immediately pull off their clothes- even if they've already seen it all a hundred times- or are complete snobs who don't like dolls that aren't Volks fullsets. I hope still to meet a cool guy that's into them, though >:

    16. I am curious as how many males are collecting dolls. At first, I only thought that females collected dolls until I heard of males doing it as well and I was...suprised. So to the males, how do you feel about collecting dolls? Do you get strange looks? Do your spouse know? Or are you a single man collecting dollies? It would be great seeing how many males are collecting in my state as well as everywhere. ^^

    17. Male doll collectors are a myth, like female gamers! Oh wait...

    18. I am a male and a very happy dollfie collector. To me its pretty much the same as scaled pvc figure of my favourite characters.

    19. Female~ and I love Asian boys, so why not surround myself with amazing boy ABJDs~? :D
