1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. Another female here, and I seem to like girl dolls usually. It's so nice to plan her hair style and color, etc. and there are so many options for lovely clothes. I like boys too, but maybe I'm too demanding on what they should look like, so I find molds that I like very seldom. Also I'm not very imaginative with my male characters design (not even mentioning the clothes), so they usually end up looking "my dream guy" (one of my original characters...) with very long black hair and stuff. It's kind of annoying actually.

    2. haha! it's funny that most of the votes are from women.

    3. Picky though I may be about sculpts (and few there are that suit my tastes in the way of the Y chromosome), I'm a boy with a boy preference - and that goes for all aspects of my life ;>
I'm uninspired by girl dolls, and though I may in the future own one, there will be only one, because I probably won't do anything with her at all. Boys are prettier. And really, surrounding myself with girl dolls defeats the purpose of my having dolls.. and that's for fantasy perfection. Ugh, I'm so shallow. Oh well, it's resin, I'm sure it doesn't mind!

    4. I'm female and when I started this hobby I prefered girls at first but slowly I got some boys in my family too now. So it doesnt matter to me who is in my family, I love them all :).

    5. Another girl here. ^^ I tend to like boy dolls better, to the point that I have "gender swapped" female characters into male bodies. BUT, I find girls more cute I love to dress them up! So overall I don't really prefer one or the other.

    6. I am Female, and as of right now I seem to prefer the female dolls more over than the boys =/
I mean there are cute boys out there, but the girls tend to draw me in more.

    7. I'm female. I have 2 males, one floating head (will be a male once I get a body for him), and a PukiPuki who is a female. I'm saving for another female. I would like to have an equal number of both.

    8. So.... Yes I am new to this. Attempted a search to see if this already exists. If it does the Moderators know the drill. Thanks for bearing with me, and now to the question.

I have read numerous posts/threads about introducing your BJD hobby to friends and family. I have even partaken in a poll about my gender and what gender I prefer my doll to be (I am a guy and prefer male dolls). Said poll led me to the conclusion that men collecting BJDs are in the minority. So as a man asking other men, please ladies feel free to chime in, what kind of reception have you received when friends/family were told or discovered your hobby?

    9. I'll chime in, though I'm not a guy. My hubby collects dolls with me. He also prefers male dolls (there is only one girl doll in our house, I'm not so much for the girls). Overall I would say his reception in the local group is good. Our group is very friendly and he is the type of guy who everyone likes. I am antisocial so I kind of need him to bridge the gap. I am glad that he chose to pick the hobby up with me. It means that there is at least one person I don't have to explain myself to. My family is just as good about him collecting as about me collecting. They tease him a little but it is just the way they are. He takes his doll to work sometimes too, everyone at work seems to like Faust. Now hubby's parents have given him a bit of grief over it. His father is by no means a "manly man" but things like us allowing our oldest son to have long hair and hubby collecting dolls seem to rub him the wrong way. His oldest brother is into anime and conventions and thinks the dolls are really cool though he doesn't collect them himself. I think having a hobby we enjoy together is a boost to our relationship. I love my guy.

    10. As a female I think it's awesome to meet guys that collect dolls. Of my friends the only one that knew anything about BJDs before they met my dolls was one of my male friends. In my circle of friends it wouldn't be taken as something that is all that strange (I'm greatful for my steampunks, geeks and goths)

    11. my BF loves dollfies and he collects them with me ^^

    12. Even though he was weirded out by my dolls at the beginning, my ex-boyfriend got into the hobby eventually, because of me, and from what I've heard and seen so far (still friends), everyone's fine with that.
He has three dolls now, all male, and I know that he even takes his Mecha Angel to work most of the time (tattoo shop). He's become something like a mascot there  which I find extremely cool. The customers seem to like him a lot.

    13. I'm a guy (30 something) and my first ABJD is on the way (a girl). So far I've only talked about it with my father (mother has passed away several years ago). Besides a few jeering remarks, he's been pretty cool about it. My parents have always given me room to explore my interests growing up and it hasn't stopped as an adult.

As for my friends, I'm not really worried. Like my father, I might get a couple friendly joking remarks, but I'm sure they'll accept it fine. Most of them are the creative sort and into anime. So collecting statues, creating characters and writing stories are common interests with my friends. I suspect they'll find it sorta cool or at least interesting.

    14. Sorry, I just clicked on this because it made showtunes fill my head... *blush, sweatdrop*

I'm... in a weird place, because while I am a girl, I'm more used to being 'one of the guys', so sometimes I'm judged by 'girl' standards, and sometimes I'm judged by 'guy' standards, depending on who I'm with and what I'm doing. But I really like seeing guys who collect dolls. A lot of the time, I find guys easier to talk to than other women, for one thing.

My brother doesn't collect them himself*, but he's a very cool 'dolly uncle', volunteering to build furniture or sew cosplay outfits for my sister and I who do collect. When we went to a doll con, he tagged along, and won a pair of shoes**.

My guy friends... I think would mostly be cool with it, because a lot of them have 'geeky' hobbies, either anime or collecting different things.

*He actually introduced me to BJDs after seeing them online and explaining what they were to me. He doesn't want to buy any, but he's a sculptor and he's interested in making one.
**Which he's keeping, to size his creation to.

      =^__^=

    15. Here is a something a little different... my boyfriend doesn't mind that I like them, he wants some too - but he only wants anthros! he doesn't like the people ones cause he, (and my coworkers,) think they are mostly creepy. But! He loves the anthros!

    16. I'm only posting because I know my boyfriend won't (I don't even remember if he has a DOA account). But the two of us are almost identical in personality and likes and dislikes. So we both have the same doll tastes (except for he likes lusion dahlia more than me, and I like more yo-sds than he does). We both seem to have a preference for mature female dolls.

Unfortunately, he does live in REALLY rural Missouri (Bourbon, a town of like 2000 people or something) and so he has had some negative remarks about the dolls. He hasn't told his grandfather about them, but his grandmother is a pretty nice and accepting person. He has always been generally weird anyway and not your typical small town guy (probably why I love him).

His friends have mixed reactions. Some of the more reserved ones kind of shake their heads at them, while a couple of his more "out there" friends love them.

I of course LOVE having someone to have dolls with. There are not many doll people near where I am so I don't really have anyone but him to talk to about dolls and stuff. His group consists of the four newest dollmore vampires (girl and boy shiloh, kalmia and rachel), thistle lusion dahlia and three luts zuzu delfs.

    17. So far, most people haven't really cared a lot. I don't take my doll out with me or talk about dolls to just anyone though, so it might be because the people who spot her already know about the giant anime figurine collection ^.^;;

I know mom secretly likes the dolls a lot, but she still hasn't recovered from hearing their price. She's sort of trying to discourage me on financial grounds.

    18. My fiancee finds my dolls a little creepy. Then again I'm a collector of the tallest dolls(I have an 80cm, 70cm, 63cm on the way, and only 1 mini...who is taller than most minis) With that in mind he's also my main support system with my dolls. He goes to doll shows with me and will go to meets with me too. I think he's slowly coming around to the fact that I collect them and has even told me lately he's really been liking my choices. I've been trying to wean him into owning one doll but he's a manly kind of man and I don't think he'll ever go for it *shrug* oh well...I've tried lol
btw if it didn't come across...I'm a girl

    19. The only guy I've known to collect and make dolls prefers female dolls. He is also gay and a huge nerd and doesn't care what anyone thinks about him. He's already dealt with gender issues on a large scale, so I don't think collecting dolls even registers with his family.

Straight guys I've dated have been a mixed bag. Some thought the dolls were weird and thought I was weird for wanting them and others didn't care either way, but since they were into something like painting miniatures or prop making, they could chime in with a faceup crit or styling a shoot with furniture, etc.

    20. The people who turned me on to BJD's and convinced me to buy one is a group of straight guys, and some of the nicest people I know.

My boyfriend, who runs events and panels at an anime convention, knows all about BJD's, and seeing as when he met me I had more plushies than all getout, fully accepts the fact that I got a doll and even thought of his name and some of his outfit ideas!
