Girls view on guys who own BJDs

Oct 26, 2010

    1. I assume this is addressed at me. If so, I have to wonder if you read the whole post. I specifically said I didn't fault the guy for having a hot doll. However, if you own a doll with optional huge boobs or "excited" parts et cetera I am going to make assumptions about you. It has nothing to do with gender.

    2. Perfectly said, Polyhymnia. I could not agree more. And I always enjoy spending time, online and otherwise, with anyone who does what they love. A man who is interested in BJD would be my choice of companion over a guy who thinks they're "stupid".

    3. I love it and THANKS! I am a girl gamer and my husband collects dolls (including BJDs). Of course, he also games and I also collect dolls...so it is loads of fun. We are both over 30. :)

    4. I am with you, Snow. Both my husband and I prefer dolls with big boobs over small-chested dolls - regardless of what style they are (DD, Obitsu, BJD or other OT doll such as fashion). It is not a 'pervy' thing. It is a body style preference. I also don't like 'skinny' dolls.

I collect Dollfie Dreams. He collects Obitsus. I adore the Dynamite body. I dress my dolls sexy but there is nothing pervy about it. It is a fashion preference.

My husband says he thinks (in his male opinion) it is more strange from dudes to prefer the younger bodies than the overly mature ones. But it is each person's choice to make.

I know too many Western guys who see anime dolls, figures, characters and think nothing more than, "Whoa...boobs!" But that is simply their immaturity. I don't think that has anything to do with doll collectors.

As a side note, I never knew until I read in this forum that it was mainly guys that collected Dollfie Dreams. Oh, well. I guess I bust a lot of stereotypes. I love the NFL, too!

    5. Considering where these dolls started out, males owning them is totally common and not a big deal at all. I totally don't have a problem with it. I know quite a few guys who own them. I even introduced one of them to the hobby and I find it cute and yet kinda funny that he's this big 6ft guy who shares a love of dolls with me.

I mean if an almost 30 year old woman can own them (yes that would be me sadly) then why not a guy? I do alot of things, such as mentioned above gaming and things that are usually a male orientated thing, so I think it's only fair that guys get to enjoy this hobby too.

    6. I absolutely love seeing guys own BJD's! I'm kind of amazed when I see males own these dolls, and just how many of you guys are actually into this hobby. It's a great thing and I wouldn't shun males for it in any way, shape, or form.

    7. I think it's great. Guys with dolls always shocks me and makes me proud that they're okay with going outside the boundaries of what's considered the norm for hobbies for boys and girls. I'll admit every time i see another guy into this hobby i am very surprised. I had no idea there were so many men into BJDs. The area i live in is very sheltered so the people i run into on a daily basis have no idea what much of anything really is and even a girl being into dolls past the age of 10 is shocking. I'm glad there's a place like this where no matter what type of person we are we can all be comfortable being part of a community for a hobby we love so much. :)

    8. I don't understand why anyone would be opposed to it. If a girl can enjoy "male hobbies" (and doesn't want to be stereotyped or looked down upon for it), I don't think there's anything wrong with a guy who enjoys "feminine" ones. I think it's sexist to consider femininity something "weak" or something to be embarrassed about. If anything, it's a good thing (for both men and women alike) that there are guys who are being vocal about having hobbies like this.

I also don't understand why people assume someone is homosexual just because they have a feminine hobby. Your sexuality doesn't determine how masculine or feminine you are. Being gay doesn't mean you are less masculine, not all homosexual men are feminine and not all heterosexual men are masculine. There are also people who exhibit both traits.

As for male collectors who buy dolls with large breasts, it's not a big deal to me. If a girl makes her dolls into a bunch of yaoi characters, I don't see why they would stick their noses up at a guy who owns dynamite base bodies for his Dollfie Dreams. It irks me a little if a person outright treats their dolls like sex objects, but it's their doll and they have the right to do whatever they want with it.

    9. I love a man who loves his dolls! <3

    10. I'm sure it's been said, but I actually think it's a little odd that more men aren't involved in the hobby. As of this date, I've never ever met a man who collects BJDs. )= But it's our societal standards that's likely preventing a lot of men who might be interested from actually getting involved, or from becoming part of the community if they collect.

    11. Girl, boy, who cares. They are all doll owners to me. I'm more about the doll than the owner anyway. (Not meaning to sound anti-social here) The more people (and dolls!) the merrier for me - size, color, gender, doesn't matter. Good doll meet manners is important, but that really is it.

    12. I think it's really interesting than boys take part in this hobby. For me it's a little bit surprising because I'm used to see them more collecting gundams or WoW figures, but I like they join the community of BJDs ^^.

    13. It was more a general statement, because more people have said "big boobs means pervert".
And you didn't say anything about females in your post.
Also, having a doll with over dramatic features has little to do with being a pervert. I like dolls with big boobs, but not in a sexual way. Liking them does not make me a pervert.
Getting aroused over them does, but you can't assume anyone with a doll like that is sexually attracted to their doll.

    14. So, when I was first learning about bjds I was taking care of my friend's dolls at A-Con for her and actually attended a meet-up there when it was just me and the dolls (she came late). At first I was creeped out in general because I was in a crowd of strangers. The vast majority of attendees were young adult females, but I specifically remember one older gentleman there. At first he didn't have his dolls out and I will admit to being a bit paranoid about the creeper factor. Then, he brought out this beautiful female doll and she was dressed like a perfect lady. I went over and talked with him and he was very nice and willing to answer all of my newbe questions. That meet was a wonderful way to be introduced to the dolly community. Everyone was nice and since then guys who own dolls don't faze me at all.

In a similar vein gender stereotyping (especially western) is so prevalent that it makes it difficult for a man to enjoy this hobby. My brother and I were recently talking about a friend he has who visits Japan every summer. This boy enjoys wearing J-pop/vis-k style clothing. He occasionally wears a skirt to his high school and gets written up for it every time. There is nothing in the dress code that states that males cannot wear skirts, but he still gets in trouble for it because it is considered wrong by the school authorities. Back to dolls then, I have taken my doll to my work and college class once because I was using him for a project. Some people were a tad creeped out, but no one was degrading or told me it was wrong. If a male decided to take a doll to his class I suspect he would get in trouble or get teased. I am proud of their self-assuredness when I see a guy at a meet with a doll.

    15. I think it's cool when a guy owns bjd.
It's definitely unexpected, and not gonna lie, I question sexuality a little bit but.. hey, if girls can do it and own girl/boy dolls... why can't guys do the same? Haha.

I've only ever met one guy who's owned bjd. He's pretty cool. C:

I say boys should play with dolls more often. haha

    16. It's awesome! Why can't guys play with dolls too?

    17. Well, let's put it this way. I enjoy wrestling(I mean rough housing in the house that results in major bruises, and perhaps broken furniture x3) and being rough with my boyfriend in a loving kind of way. I also have played video games since I was 8 years old and most of them were Doom, Quake...other bloody games that were mature ratings. (My mom was cool and I wasn't a violet child!) If I can do that without being judged, I'm very much girly too!, that means a man can collect dolls without being judged. I would be THRILLED if my boyfriend took a interest into dolls. He kinda has a fear of them...I hope he warms up to them eventually so he isn't so creeped out so much haha. It all depends on the personality and the person! Not necessarily your sexuality.

And hey, I LOVE big boobs on my dolls. Not because I am perv...because I am "gifted" myself and I want my girls to be beautiful and curvy! I find human bodies beautiful and the way they are portrayed on dolls can be...artistic! So I see it as art as well.

    18. You know what they say about assuming...right? ;)

    19. I personally don't see why it's even an issue.. My fiance and I both have dolls ((even though his is little more than a floating head with faceup and eyes right now >w<)) and we both adore our resin Buddies. As for the maturity or immaturity, we both have character-based dolls. He has his characters that he'd like to get as dolls, I have mine--so the body type is heavily dependant on the character. His doll is going to be a scholar type, so of course he's going to have an underdeveloped body, while another character he has is going to b be rather buff. Body type, wether suggestive or not, is either personal preference, or based on the character, so I don't think that would be cause for me to think someone's 'pervy.' As for the 'excited parts'... Well yes, I would look at you funny for a moment and probably give a slight giggle, but that's just my dorky sense of humor. Judgemental isn't something I am often, I just don't think that way I suppose. I'm more inclined to say "haha, you've got 'that' in your hand" and send myself into a fit of laughter at the slight absurdity of the situation when taken out of context than I am to go "You've got that in your hand, or on your doll, ew." It's part of the reason that I can't go onto spirit doll's website too often. Call me immature, but I'll send myself into a fit of laughter, purely at the oddity, absurdity and Irony. >w<

(And please don't take 'oddity, absurdity and Irony' as insulting! They're simply the only words I can really find to describe it. I'm not laughing at anyone, I just find it funny in an awesome way. Atomicly correct ftw

    20. I don't think that's very fair. x3 I mean, if you're going to assume that a woman who owns a bunch of dolls with optionally large breasts is a pervert... Then are you going to assume that a woman who owns a bunch of dolls with tiny breasts is a prude? That a woman with a bunch of tinies is secretly a pedophile, or even in a nicer scale, has secret hidden maternal desires that she can't fufill in real life?
The same goes for men... >///< If you're going to assume that a man who buys large breasted dolls is buying them for sexual reasons, then you might as well assume that a man who buys a mature, masculine, large-penis'd doll is clearly gay.
There are so, so many assumptions you can make based on those things, so it's not fair to make any based on what types of dolls people buy. Truth be told, I don't even think it's fair to say that if someone takes sexual pictures of their doll, that you can make assumptions about them. Perhaps it's someone with NO interest in sex themselves, but who is fascinated by sex from the biological perspective?
( Please, don't think I'm trying to attack you! >///< I just don't think it's "right" to outrightly tell anyone: "If you do ___, I'm going to judge you for it." )

Edit Delicate Disaster, I went back and found your last post, before this one~ Actually, it's really cool that you were able to change your mind after different experiences. <3 ^///^ You still have to be careful about assumptions, though~ >///<

      Back on topic, though...
I don't think there's anything "wrong" with guys owning dolls. x3 Be they feminine or masculine! Of the men in my life, I can imagine my mom's fiancee owning a hockey-player doll, watching TV with him, etc... XD I can imagine a couple geekier guys I know recreating characters of theirs as dolls~ Both of those things are wonderful, to me. :)
Even if a man just wants a pretty/feminine doll, though... I don't think there's anything wrong with it~ More power to you! :3

Recently, a friend was looking for dollie-meetups in her area... I was on the forums looking around for her, before her account was approved, and as I was scrolling through one of the threads, I found out that one of the members was a guy with a bunch of piercings and tattoos. My first thought was; "THAT'S AWESOME!"--I immediately showed her and she completely agreed. XD
