Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Girls view on guys who own BJDs

Oct 26, 2010

1. I would probably be stricken with adoration if I met a guy IRL that likes dolls~ :D

2. I don't shun it, but I do find it a bit surprising, even after meeting a few guys who own dolls themselves. It's not anything bad, it's just that I'm so used to doll collecting being a female oriented hobby, so if anything, I'm blaming the strict gender roles that are so heavily carved into society. Honestly though, if a guy wants to collect dolls, power to him. I'm actually quite glad to see some diversity in the hobby. c:

3. My S.O. has 6 dolls... all girls, ranging in age from 7-8 to about 30 yrs. Soom MD, BBB Luna and 2 Doll Mores and 2 BBB/RS WarCraft characters . Only one of them is an extremely busty girl and she is the 3D embodiment of a character he drew some 10 years earlier for an Anime Convention mascot. I bought him his 1st DollMore-Lilis Liv and gave him the BBB/RS Luna as it was a gift to me. He cares very much for all his dolls, being keenly aware of the price and treats them accordingly. Each has a rollie case of clothes, shoes, props, pets. The larger girls more so, but his Soom MD Glot is not lacking in the clothing dept. either. About 6 of the members of our local doll group are men and 1 of them I might guess is 55+ and loves his FF girl, my S.O. is 45+ and then there are the rest ranging in age from mid 20's to mid 30's. I have no problem with men and dolls... it's just another hobby. Hey if they don't care I beat their butts of at resin modeling contests... I don't care if they have dolls. YOU GO BOYZ!

4. I think it's awesome. I like ALL input and ideas and thoughts in ALL my hobbies so having a diversified following makes it all the more interesting.

5. Hello fellow DFW resin enthusiast! I think my hubby is one of those men in your local dolly group. My first meet up comprised of more guys than girls and you and your SO were there. It's been three years now and hubby has three dolls of his own. He collects all boys, two out of three being SD. They don't make it to many meet ups but my sons also collect. My oldest will be 10 this summer and he has two dolls, both girls though one is a bunny. My youngest is 5 and his doll is a boy.

6. I think that it is wonderful for guys, girls, whoever to love dolls!

To me, dolls are just another expression of art and the imagination so it's great for anyone to be able to take advantage of all the creativity that comes with the hobby.
Personally, I do not know of any guys or girls for that matter that I associate with on a regular basis to even know what a BJD is without me being the one to tell them about them but those that I do share with (and they are mostly guys) think that they're pretty 'cool' as they put it ;P
At first they give me a weird look but once I explain they are not like the dolls they most likely would think of when that word is mentioned they have actually shown quite a bit of interest! One of my guy friends had a blast playing with one of my MSDs. They couldn't believe the pose-ability, customization options and really liked the doll. Others ask me questions about dolls I may be waiting for or what new things I've done to or with them...

I find actually really cute >.<

7. Ｉthink is totally cool. A lot of talent male BJD owners can modded their dolls super well. I would say as long as you love BJD. Everything is cool. :) Just take good care of your dolls.

8. I don't think it's weird. I thought that would be awesome. I might come up to the guy and say let's hang out or something.

9. In Japan, guys like DD and girls like SD, because DDs are almost animation or game main characters. I can understand why they like dolls.

10. I think it's perfectly acceptable but then again I have 3 SDs and I am male.

11. I think it's fine. I think it's more to the point it's a female 'thing' like sewing is a 'female' thing but at my store I know an excellent tailor and an avid male quilter. I'm hoping I can convince my husband once I get my boy (looking at purchase in roughly two months since the hubby has a job now) that he needs a girl that is "his" to match mine. *nudge nudge* Think I can get away with it?

12. I'd love to have a guy friend who collects bjd! If my boyfriend wasn't dollphobic and he started collecting I'd be ecstatic. Sometimes guy collectors have the dolls I like best <3. The owner of my favorite store is 60 years old and his wife collects bjd and he holds off on getting one because he thinks it'd be weard, let your freak flag fly I say! >w<

13. I'm not going to shun a guy who owns BJDs. S'all cool.
Due to my personal experience I am gonna assume you're gay until proven otherwise. This isn't because I think dolls are only for gay boys, this is because with maybe three exceptions, every doll owner I've "met" who is male is also gay, and this hobby has a side obsession with gay/Yaoi topics.
If you're in this hobby and Straight, I say good for you for enjoying some awesome artistic expression in spite of societal stigma attached to "dolls".

I will shun a guy, or any person really, who owns BJDs and uses them as personal porn- I mention this because most of the kind of guys I know of out in the Real World would only have a figurine in their house if it's in skimpy outfits, "naughty" poses and wearing the Unoa Orgasm face all the time.

14. ^^ i do see a fair bit of this running around, but that's in a heck of a lot more than just the BJD scene. hot guys seem to be marketed as much as hot chicks these days, and i'm all for equality, but i'd rather have neither be marketed personally... (kinda bothers me a bit seeing as the general perception of a hot guy these days seems to be a hairless wonder without a single ounce of fat on him... I am all but that...) (just some personal thoughts :P)

I'm a guy who's just beginning to get into the hobby (gonna order my first doll this summer) so this thread is really reassuring to me. It's actually my GF who's been getting me into the hobby, was thinking about it before, but she's really cemented it in my mind... can't wait to order that BFTF Xiao!!

15. Great topic! :D

I have met 2 guys in this hobby in person, and one of them is a great friend now.
I have also met a couple of guys in the hobby on-line, and I must say that I have no problem with male collectors at all. My male collector friend has an incredible collection of dolls, with really cool outfits and props to them. And some of the on-line guys has incredible dolls too.

On the question of male having busty dolls for the... Well. I want a EID man, and that is not entire for the face that doll have... I have a minifee with muscular body for one reason mostly: they are beautiful hotness in plastic! :love But I like the busty girls too (having a DD L-bust and a minifee with L-bust) so I really don't see the problem with it. I don't think those busty dolls/anime/game characters was created for a girl market, but that is a whole other discussion :D

But I love men in the hobby. I think it gives a nice counter weight to all the girls in this hobby. I would really like to get to know more guys who's interested in dolls, and I would not be sad at all if my future boyfriend just happened to be in the hobby to :D

16. I got my boyfriend interested in ball joint dolls, which I like because its something else we can share with each other, plus I think its really neat for guys to like the hobby too. I only ever see girls at doll meet ups so it would definitely be neat to have guys their too.:)

17. Point, female collectors do tend to drool over the sexiest boy sculpts. I'm not against a guy having a hot EID lady lounging around the doll shelf at his house, since I have guys I bought because they're beautiful. I just prefer to see appreciative ogling as opposed to pervy. The difference is the respect with which the subject is treated and the attitude, I guess.

Ahem, ON topic:
Props, man, and welcome to the hobby! I hope I can convince my eventual Darling Man to consider joining the hobby alongside me. I bet you and your lady will have lots of fun having a hobby you can enjoy and share together!

18. Rosslyn: You do make a fair point. (especially relating to the BJD's, after all, who would want to buy a doll that wasn't pretty to them! :P)

Thanks for the welcome! My advice to getting your guy to join: See if you can't find a sculpt he either falls in love with, or simply finds cute enough to buy one of! I haven't even bought mine yet, and i'm already considering more based on other characters from the world i've built that i'm pulling the first doll's character from. :) If you can get him one, he may want more on his own! ^_^

19. I wouldn't be fussed if I met a guy who liked BJDs. In fact, it would be a nice change of pace considering that most of the people I know don't care for dolls. Besides, a fellow who likes BJDs is no different from any guy who collects action figures or paints Warhammer figurines - it's just an unusual hobby.

20. I respected these guys because, they are willing to stand out for their hobbies which some guys would hide their interest to dolls and besides, nowadays hobbies are meant for everyone regardless of gender and age so it's find for guys to even plan dress ups for their dolls and no offense, there are males in the fashion industries and I personally think that guys who dress up dolls are like fashion designers for dolls n___n
